COURSE SYNOPSIS:
This course exposes students to plays written in the Elizabethan era especially
Shakespearean drama as well as contemporary works by modern playwrights. Plays
written by Malaysians including translated works would also be introduced. Students will
be taken through the process of analyzing and understanding the elements of drama and
evaluation of drama.
(Kursus ini mendedahkan pelajar kepada drama yang ditulis semasa era Elizabethan
terutamanya drama Shakespeare. Termasuk juga ialah drama penulis moden. Drama
oleh dramatis Malaysia, termasuk karya terjemahan juga akan diperkenalkan. Pelajar
akan dilatih menganalisa dan memahami elemen-elemen dan cara penilaian drama.)

RATIONALE OF THE COURSE:


This is a minor course compulsory for students who major in Teaching of English as a
Second Language (TESL) in all degree programmes. The course provides students with
the ability to do critical thinking in their interpretation and analysis of texts.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Interpret the elements and conventions of drama (C6)(C2)
2. Adapt style, plot and characters in discussion of selected drama (P6)(C4)
3. Exemplify issues and themes in discussion of selected drama (A5)(C3)
4. Communicate effectively and work as a team in presentations (CS3)(C4)

Reminder:
1. Students must attend all lectures, tutorials, laboratory, studio or other activities related to the course, including courses with no final
examination (perkara 4.1dan 4.3)
2. Student with attendance of less than 80% will not be allowed to sit for final examination. (perkara 4.2)
3. Perkara 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 can be waived for students who suffer from health problems and must be certified by government or UPSI panel clinic
medical officer.
4. Student who has to represent UPSI/State/Country in activity that is directed by the government or UPSI, is required to obtain a
recommendation letter from the Dean and must be approved by the Academic Affairs Division.
