Shelldon the Sea Turtle

Shelldon is a true thespian. He enjoys doing all types of theater, but his favorite performances
are those that bring the writings of Shakespeare to life. He is known throughout the aquatic
community as being the greatest Hamlet of all time. He also fancies himself to be a bit of a
magician. He is most famous for pulling a dolphin out of a clam shell! Whether he is bringing
crowds to tears or shocking them with his brilliant illusions, Shelldon is always entertaining.

Attaching Body Parts to Shell

Lay the shell right side down. Lay the head, front and back
flippers and tail as shown (Fig. 5). Line up the base ends
of each piece so that their open base ends meet the seam
between the outer edge of the shell pieces and the shell
edging. With the excess length at the base end of each piece,
whip stitch the side of the open base end that is laying on the
shell to the seam between the edging on the shell pieces and
the shell edging itself (Fig. 5).

sts7 sts. Fasten off. Align one piece with a 60" (152cm) tail
and one without and whip stitch around, leaving base open.
Stuff. Weave in ends.

Once these five pieces are attached to the underside of

the shell, lay the belly over all of these pieces so that the
head end matches up with head end of the shell, and the tail
end matches up with tail end of shell. With the 72" (183cm)
tail left at beg of belly pattern, whip stitch the belly to the
top half of each of the five body parts and to the underside
of the shell in between each of the five pieces. Stuff as work
progresses. (Note: For stiffer limbs that are not flopping
around, make sure to stuff the joints where each piece is
attached to the body.)
