Company Details
Research and Development Company situated in Melbourne, deal with the overall
development of any organisation. By using various technologies, issues of organisations are
resolved by Research and Development Company. Dealing with IoT (Internet of Things),
many organisations incorporate this technology to compete in the market. IoT provides
various benefits for organisations development. Incorporating IoT into city would be a great
resource for transforming a simple city into a smart city. Being responsible for the post of
manager of the Company, solutions are suggested in this report by our organisation to the
issues faced by cities. There are so many problems that are faced by the cities. To overcome
these problems IoT services can be implemented in cities. So many applications are provided
by our organisation in various sectors.

1. Report Motto
The motto of this report is to describe the overall plan for converting a simple city into a
smart city. Benefits of incorporating IoT in this system, its limitations as well as its
description will be discussed in this report. Report will contain the two major applications of
IoT proposed for smart city. Overall applications of IoT in various sectors will be discussed.
IoTs positive and negative impacts on smart city are discussed in this report. To cap it all a
conclusion will be provided at the end of this report. Suggestions to implement IoT in smart
city will be discussed by Research and Development Company, so this report will provide the
overall structure and idea of incorporating IoT into smart city.

3. IoT Description
IoT is an abbreviation used for (Internet of Things). Exchange and collection of data is the
main function of IoT. Basically it is a network that contains buildings, physical devices and
vehicles consisting of sensors, actuators and electronics. It is expected by scientists that in
2020 there would be around 20 billion objects. In Internet of Things, things can be a device
or number of devices such as electric calm, biochip or built in sensors. (Glova, Sabol, &
Vajda, 2014)

5. IoT main Applications in Smart City

5.1. Data sharing through Wearables
o TZOA Internal sensors are used to measure temperature, air quality,
humidity and many more. (Kang, Kim, Lee, Park, & Jang, 2015)
5.2. Transportation
o Anagog - For predicting mobility status of users
o Best Mile - Used to control smart infrastructure (Wang, 2015)

6. IOT In-Favour and Against Points

Incorporating IOT in smart cities provides with both in-favour points as well as against
points. Below is the list of considerable IOT in-favour and against points.

In-favour:
Cost:

Utilising IOT driven devices helps in saving the cost as most of the work is

accomplished through online system. One needs not to be physical present at the premises.
Interaction: IOT supports with interaction as online devices provide way to people to remain
connected. It is achieved using M2M communication between users.
Digitalization of Process: Making each and every process digitised supports users to
accomplish the tasks in time and is accessible from any part of universe.
Against:
Security Issues: Security issues are major source of concern executing IOT based devices as
data is shared and transmitted over the network. It could lead intruder to enter the network, if
proper security measures are not applied.
Eliminating Employment Opportunities: Process is carried through devices hence, need of
man-power is eliminated.
Power Failure: Occurrence of power failure disrupts the overall functioning of the system.
They are highly dependent on internet connections.

7. Issues Incorporating IOT Legal, Social and Ethical

Legal Issues: It is an important issue that one should consider while dealing with interlinked
devices. As interlinked devices poses great threat to data and increase in the chances of data
theft.
Social Issues: Any new device getting executed have impacts on community directly or
indirectly. It could be prevented at some point which should not be there.

Ethical Issues: In order to ensure security of an organisation one should incorporate ethical
issues in implementing new innovation. It could be overcome by interacting through cocolleagues. (Eom, 2015)

8. Impact over City

In-favour:

Developing and deploying effective services to citizens.

Integrating new GPS system.
Connecting cities.
Controlling LED lighting.

Against:

Security issues.
Decrease response time.
Epidemic issues.

9. Conclusion
This report is proficient enough in presenting the role of IOT in city and its various issues
that includes social, legal and ethical issues. Report also presents the possible in-favour and
against points. It also portrays the potential applications and its related benefits to the city and
its people. Report aims at describing the impact of implementing IOT in city and converting
city to smart city. It presents the potential benefits and the convenience that is being paid to
the city. Lately, report is further concluded with describing the recommended steps that are to
be kept in mind while deploying the technology.

10. Recommendation

In order to prevent any chaos implementing stifling technology is to be avoided.

Market Driven approach should be incorporated.
Sensitive data needs to be secured.
People should be made aware of using the technology.
Pros and cons of technology are to be considered.
Technology should ensure flexible environment.
One should clearly understand the IOT and its applications.
Moral Issues need to apply effectively.
