Victoria Savage
for North Dakota
Biography: Victoria Savage was sworn in as North Dakotas 22nd Senator in
2011. Savage was North Dakotas governor for 1o years prior to her election to the
United States Senate. Savage was born in Bismarck, North Dakota where her loving
parents (married for 35 years) raised her and her older brother. Savage is 59 years
old and a graduate of Dartmouth college; here she received a masters degree in
business and a bachelors degree in political science. Savage served on many bank
committees throughout the state of North Dakota following her graduation from
Dartmouth; under her leadership, the states economy and the banking systems of
North Dakota improved tremendously. Today, Savage is happily married to her
husband whom she shares two beautiful children and one grandchild with.
Issues:
of companies in the oil industry across the nation. Senator Savage will stop at
nothing to turn around the oil and gas industry in the United States, even if that
requires creating stronger relationships with other nations and working to allow U.S.
oil exports. Senator Savage believes that when the energy industry in America
prospers, the nations economy and the nations people do too.
fracking). The agricultural industry is also strong in North Dakota due to the large
amounts of farm fields that populate the state.
ways to produce and export oil and gas, the two main foundations of our nations
economy, the President wants to work on expanding solar and wind power across
our nation. This proposition comes with a large cost though. Although cutting down
Americas production of dirty energy would supposedly clean the environment,
millions of people would lose their jobs, the nations economy would suffer greatly,
and the majority of the lower class citizens of America would find themselves
without a constant energy source. The ability to obtain solar and wind power at this
point in time is the same as obtaining a luxury good. Lower class citizens would not
have the same opportunity that upper and middle class citizens have at obtaining
energy if the oil and gas industry were to be replaced as Obama intends it to be in
the coming years. President Obama also stated that, weve cut our imports of
foreign oil by nearly sixty percent, and cut carbon pollution more than any other
country on Earth2 like it was a great accomplishment. The latter is indeed true; in
the past decade Americans have decreased carbon emissions released by oil
fracking and drilling by 10%. However, if we continued making strides to make the
production of oil and coal a cleaner process instead of put[ting] tens of thousands
of Americans to work building a 21st century transportation system, as Obama
proposes we do with those Americans who would lose their jobs after the oil and gas
industry shrinks, I believe America would be a stronger and cleaner nation both
financially and environmentally.
It is time that those in the oil and gas industry stand up to those around them. That
is why I am so honored to be a Senator for my citizens in North Dakota; with this
position I am given the power to expand my colleagues knowledge about the oil and
gas industry and revive it once and for all for not only those in North Dakota, but for
all Americans affected by the industrys decline. Without the oil and gas industry,
thousands of my citizens are out of a job and struggling to support their families. It
is time to prove to millions of Americans just how important the oil and gas industry
is to our nations economy and workforce. A decrease in foreign oil imports is good,
but comes with a cost. The reason for this decrease in imports is because America
has gotten too good at producing oil! We are dominating the world in our oil
production; however, because of this gas prices have decreased dramatically along
with oil production. Thousands have lost their jobs and the nations economy is
suffering without oil. It is time to stand up to environmentalists who believe
destroying dirty energy production will make America a cleaner and stronger
nati0n. The only thing that will make America a stronger nation is rebuilding the oil
and gas industry. If Americans can put their minds to the test, they have the power
to make the industry a cleaner and more efficient source of energy production, job
creation, and economy booster. I know my North Dakotans stand behind me on this,
but it is now time to get the entire nation behind me on this. In conclusion, the
rebirth of a cleaner oil and gas industry is the rebirth of a better, more successful

nation both economically and environmentally. I pledge to you and all Americans my
promise to spread this message to all whom I meet throughout my term. Thank you.
