Executive Summary
This study investigated how change in attitude towards teachers as
compared to a decade before. It also examined the relationships
between students and teachers which could affect the research
survey. In total, 27 surveys were collected from several students
from different colleges, different geographical location and from
different departments of education. The survey measured how
respect towards teachers is affected by different by different factors
and additional demographic information.
Statistics were computed using the Qualtrics program to analyze the
data. This study yielded many findings. Research gave deeper
insights into the teachers behavior, types of factors, frequency of
interaction between student and teachers and its effect on it,
dependence of age, gender, location and education level. The few
indicated a positive relationship between students and teachers as
well as the external environments which includes peers, parents and
teachers.

Introduction
This section lays the background regarding the research area. It also
lays emphasis on the importance of the field and its implications in
the near future. This section entails a background indicating the
importance of internal and external affecting the research.
First of all what does respect mean?
1. Showing consideration for other people and their property.
2. Caring for ourselves, family, community, and school.
3. Appreciating and accepting individual differences.
4. Treating others the way that you would want to be treated.
How can you show respect to your teachers?
1. Use kind words and good manners.
2. Listen to what teachers have to say.
3. Follow the rules.
4. Appreciate differences among people.
5. Help others.
Education plays a critical role in contributing to counteracting
discrimination and diffusing a culture of respect for all throughout
society. As education professionals, they have a critical role to play in
the transformation process in and through education: equipping
learners to embrace their fear of differences, increase compassion
and empathy for others, and build multiple perspectives, while
heightening their appreciation of every person in the world in which
we live. Children and young people also have much to share with

education professionals, such as their ideas and experiences on how

to stop discrimination and promote mutual respect.
This Research report seeks to provide current situations on the
teachers status. It also focuses on how a teachers respect is
influenced by the way of teaching or how much he or she put efforts
in teaching students.

Objectives of the study

* To understand the change in behaviour towards teachers respect.
* To understand the various environment factors that have lead to
change as compared a decade ago.
* To understand how relationship between student and teachers affect
the change in attitude among society.
* To understand the reasons that led to change in attitude towards
teachers.

Literature Review
A concern to improve the status of teachers and the teaching
profession has been inherent in government policy initiatives since
1997, when it was given prominence in a White Paper (DfEE, 1997)
and subsequent documents such as Teachers meeting the challenge of
change (DfEE, 1998a). Underpinning the range of initiatives that
ensued was the desire to improve standards in teaching and raise the
status of teachers.
The Faculty of Education at Cambridge University, in association
with the Centre for Mass Communication Research at Leicester
University was commissioned by the Department for Education and
Skills (DfES) in 2002 to embark on a four year study of the status of
teachers and the teaching profession in England. The projects aims
are threefold. They are:
1. to establish a baseline and monitor changes in perceptions of the
status of teachers and their profession, among teachers, associated
groups and the general public, between 2003 and 2006
2. To understand the factors that might influence perceptions of
status and teachers attitudes
3. To identify how perceptions of teacher status can be improved.

Defining Status
We recognise the complexity of the concept of status. The New
Shorter Oxford English Dictionary offers the following generic
definition:

'Position or standing in society; rank, profession; relative importance'

and 'Condition or position of a thing esp. with regard to importance'
This project has adopted Hoyles (2001) three-part definition of
occupational status in the development and interpretation of the
surveys conducted in this study. Hoyle distinguishes between:
Occupational Prestige
The public perception of the relative position
of an occupation in a hierarchy of occupations
Occupational Status
the category to which knowledgeable groups
allocate a particular occupation, where knowledgeable groups
include e.g. civil servants, politicians, social scientists, educationists
and, for the purpose of this study, teachers themselves. Occupational
Esteem - the regard in which an occupation is held by the general
public by virtue of the personal qualities that members are perceived
to bring to their core tasks e.g. their care, competence and dedication.

Occupational Esteem
The regard in which an occupation is held by
the general public by virtue of the personal qualities that members
are perceived to bring to their core tasks e.g. their care, competence
and dedication.

Research Questions
1. Is there is an increase in immoral activity committed by
teachers?
2. Do you talk to teachers for personal advice?
3.

Do teachers have chosen teaching profession only because of

earning money?

Research Design
The research conducted is descriptive and is based on the data
Collected through questionnaires. A descriptive research portrays
Accurately the characteristics of a particular individual, situation or
a group. So descriptive design help our research to quantify the
current situation.
Here we want to find out the students behaviour towards teachers
and the present situation. Descriptive research design helps us to
know the characteristics of an individual wherein students are the
individual in our research.

group 18 24 which are students.
The final limitation was the significant lack of academic literature on
the topic of the change in the respect given by the society towards
teachers as they would a decade ago.

Scope of the Study

The scope of the study is to find out the different factors which
influence the research and draw inferences from it about how it

Their position in college and industrial experience

The teacher's are becoming more like business personals engaged in producing toppe
and rankers rather than educating without any bias behaviour or discrimination.
Students of this generation do not have much respect for their teachers. It maybe
because sometimes they expect too much from a teacher and also there are teachers

Report Findings
From the above survey out of 26 sample size there are like 17 male
and 9 female. In the finding students perspective is taken into
consideration in context.

From the finding we saw majority share of sample states that

they have a friendly relationship with the teachers which rounds
to 40.74% , and 29% thinks they have no interest in sharing the
personal relationship with the teacher and 29.63% only interact
while in the class hours.
And also the majority shares of students are reluctant to share
their personal advice seeking interest.
Teachers are still receiving the same respect as they used to
back decade ago.
Helped to us get a clear idea about the teacher reputation in
current generation both in the eyes of students and parents.
Teachers are still known to be guru for mentoring the students
future as known from ancient times.
Students are now more serious and clear about their career
oriented decisions with the help from teachers guidance.

To match up this competitive market for excellence there has

been an up-gradation in style and methods of teaching (e.g. elearning methods), more practical and skilled oriented steps are
undertaken.

When asked in the questionnaire about Any other factors

which you think have impacted the students perception of
teachers in the society we got two reviews.

The teacher's are becoming more like business personals

engaged in producing toppers and rankers rather than
educating without any bias behaviour or discrimination.

Students of this generation do not have much respect for their

teachers. It maybe because sometimes they expect too much from
a teacher and also there are teachers who do not take their work
seriously and are not very helpful.

Conclusions
After taking into the consideration of 26 sample size for survey about
the question do teachers command the same respect as they would a
decade ago a decade ago ,we conclude that there has not been any
much changes in the role of teachers in students mentoring, only
methods and secondary objects are been restructured and altered so
as to suit the current market demand for kind of educated people so
as keep the economy of one moving forward, though in majority of
cases its been come into noticed that now quality of education has
become secondary factor over helping the students get good grades
and rather than improving the quality of its knowledge.

Suggestions
Even though the current situation is appropriate up to great extend
but following things to taken under consideration in order to get back
the same respect and devotion towards teachers dated back to ancient
times:

Key focus on quality of education.

Avoid impartial attention on grade oriented mind set.
Keep innovating a updating to meet students expectations
and interest.
