1 Introduction
Interface to import input data in the MBF format (Model Batch File) of CAEPIPE (SST Systems, Inc.) into
ROHR2.
2 Task
The interface enables to import CAEPIPE model batch files (*.mbf). This file type is created by an export
function of CAEPIPE. The data of the CAEPIPE model is directly imported into ROHR2.
3 Interface handling
Requirements of the data transfer into ROHR2
a current program license of ROHR2
To read CAEPIPE files in the format *.mbf) use the File| Open command in ROHR2
Selected file type must be CAEPIPE.
4 Data format
The import of von CAEPIPE files is expected in accordance with the specification of the MBF format in the
CAEPIPE manual. Required file extension is *.mbf.

5 Data to be converted
The following sections in the MBF files will be considered:
- OPTIONS
- MATERIAL
- SOILS
- PIPE
- LOADS
- LAYOUT
Data for structural steel sections and jacket pipes are not considered.
5.1 OPTIONS
In the OPTIONS section settings for hanger design, piping code, units and vertical axis are defined.
The manufacturer for hanger design is always set to GRINNELL (the default setting in CAEPIPE).
The piping code defined in *.MBF is translated as follows:

5.2 MATERIAL
The material definitions are imported as user defined data into the ROHR2 model. The parameters Long.
Joint factor and Circ. Joint Factor are ignored.
5.3 SOILS
From soil properties only the soil cover height is considered. In the ROHR2 model soil restraint acc. to EN
13941 with the here defined soil cover height is created.

PIPE
5.4 PIPE
For each PIPE definition a pipe dimension record is created. The parameters Lining density and Lining
Thk are ignored.
5.5 LOADS
According to the data in LOADS the appropriate number of load cases of the type Operation are created.
The operation data from loads are assigned to these load cases. The load case Dead weight gets the
same operation data as the first load case operation.
If the Additional weight is greater than 0 a line load is created for the ROHR2 model.
5.6 LAYOUT
The pipe model is created from the LAYOUT data.
The following key letters are interpreted:
- F
(from node)
- T
(to node)
- L
(location node)
- K
(code for node)
- M
(material number)
- P
(pipe section number
- J
(joint code)
- X,Y,Z (offset)
- B
(bend radius)

ROHR2 model
Additional Mass of valve.
If also OFFSETT is defined a rigid beam is created from the middle of the valve
to the coordinates according to OFFSET. At the end of this rigid beam a point
mass is defined.
If no OFFSET is defined the additional mass is added to the normal valve
mass (VWGT)
Special wall thickness of a bend
Special material of a bend
Angular stiffness of an axial expansion joint
User defined SIFs of a bend
Max. cone angle for component RKR
If CNOD is defined, an internal hanger or an internal support with a connection
to the node defined by CNOD is created.
This value is taken as the installation load for user defined spring hangers
This value is taken as the radius for the component TEX
A constant hanger is created as the node
A point mass is created at the node with the given mass
An anchor point movement for the first load case operation is created
An anchor point movement for the second load case operation is created
An anchor point movement for the third load case operation is created
Support direction
A support with a translational restraint in the given direction is created
A support with a rotational restraint in the given direction is created
For the component BGL, BES the data of FF are considered as ki and ko.
The mass of the flange is considered as a point mass at this node
A guide support is created
Definition of the gap for the guide defined by G
The special medium density is considered for the load case Pressure test
The special pressure is considered for the load case Pressure test
Translation stiffness for the here defined restraint
Rotational stiffness for the here defined restraint
Creates a support with the here given gap in positive and negative support
direction. The direction of the restraint is taken from DV.
The data from LOAD with the here given number is taken to create operation
data for the load cases operation.

Supports
From the restraint data of CAEPIPE supports for ROHR2 are created. ROHR2 tries to combine the
different restraint at one node to create only one support in the ROHR2 model. If this is not possible
several supports for groups of restraints are created. In this case new intermediate nodes are created
during the import of the data. If displacements (DIS) are defined here these displacements are applied to
all for this node created supports in the ROHR2 model.
