Abstrak
Kajian eksplanatori ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan pengetahuan dan amalan
pengajaran pensyarah mengenai kemahiran abad ke-21. Secara khusus, kajian ini
perlu untuk menentukan sama ada terdapat perbezaan antara pengetahuan dan aplikasi
amalan pengajaran pensyarah terhadap Kemahiran Abad ke-21 dan apa sebenarnya
yang diajar di KV Sungai Petani 1, Kedah Darul Aman. Walaupun terdapat banyak
pandangan yang berbeza mengenai Kemahiran Abad ke-21, kemahiran dalam kajian
ini ditakrifkan sebagai pemikiran kritis dan pemikiran kreatif dan kemahiran
kolaborasi. KV Sungai Petani 1, Kedah Darul Aman ini hanya telah melaksanakan
sebahagian Kemahiran Abad ke-21. Kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa pensyarah
mempunyai pengetahuan dan amalan pengajaran yang tinggi dalam kepentingan atau
pemahaman dalam Kemahiran Abad ke-21.

Manakala strategi pengajaran berada

dalam tahap yang sederhana. Adalah dicadangkan supaya proses perubahan haruslah
melibatkan komuniti kolej vokasional secara keseluruhan dan saling bekerjasama. Jika
tidak, pelaksanaan Kemahiran Abad ke-21 akan terus kekal sebagai paradoks.

Teaching Practice 21st Century Skills in Sungai Petani 1, Vocational College,
Kedah Darul Aman, Malaysia
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this explanatory study was to gain knowledge and teaching practices
of lecturers of 21st Century Skills. Specifically, the study was need to determine
whether there is a difference between the knowledge and teaching practices of 21 st
Century Skills and what is actually taught at Sungai Petani 1, Vocational College.
Although there are many different views on 21 st Century Skills, the skills of this
study are defined as critical thinking and creative thinking, and collaboration skills.
Sungai Petani 1, Vocational College only implemented part of 21st Century Skills.
This study shows that the lecturer has the knowledge and practice of teaching high
of the importance or understanding in the 21st Century Skills. The teaching
strategies are in the medium level. It is suggested that the process of change should
involve the entire vocational college community collaboratively working together.
Otherwise, the implementation of 21st Century Skills will continue to remain a
paradox

SHORT BIOGRAPHY
FARIDAH MARIANI JOHARI holds a Master in Technical and Vocational education (University
of Technology Malaysia; 2001); Bachelor of Technology with Education (Living Skills; UTM, 1998);
certificate in teaching (Living Skills, Institut Pendidikan Temenggong Ibrahim, Johor Bahru, 1991).
Currently she is a PhD student in Universiti Sains Malaysia, from Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus
Keningau, Sabah. With more than 22 years as an academic in the field of education, her focus areas
include Entrepreneurship; Action Research, Invention, Living Skills, Open and Distance Learning,
High Order Thinking Skills, Learning Styles and Home Economics.
NORLIA ABD AZIZ holds a Masters in Mathematics Education (UKM, 2001); Bachelor of
Mathematics with Education (UTM, 1985); Diploma in Mathematics Education (UTM, 1983).
Currently she is the Senior Lecturer at Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Dato Razali Ismail, Kuala
Terengganu (IPGKDRI). With more than 29 years as an academic in the field of education, her focus
areas include Mathematics contents and Pedagogy, High Order Thinking Skills, Learning Styles,
Open and Distance Learning.
HAIRUL NIZAM ISMAIL (1968 - ) is an Associate Professor in the School of Educational Studies,
University Sains Malaysia (USM). His area of expertise is Educational Psychology and Instructional
System Technology. Upon his doctoral degree (PhD) graduation from Indiana UniversityBloomington, U.S.A., Dr. Hairul Nizam has embarked on various research studies and projects work
in the area of Educational and Developmental Psychology (cognitive & affective), social psychology
(students ethnic interactions), Intelligence (multiple intelligences & emotional intelligence),
Instructional Psychology (inquiry & problem base learning) as well as in instructional Technology
topics, particularly working on projects concerning integration of technologies into classroom

instruction. To date, twelve doctoral and three Masters (by research) students has graduated under his
supervision.. Dr. Hairul Nizam has also published and co-published more than ten research/technical
publications and fifty journal articles and conference papers on both the international and national
levels. .
WIDAD OTHMAN holds a PhD in Technical & Vocational Education (University of Technology
Malaysia; 1996); Masters in Science (University of Oregon, USA, 1985); Bachelor of Science with
Education (UTM, 1981); Diploma in Science Education (UTM, 1979). Currently she is the Dean,
Faculty of Education & Languages, Open University Malaysia (OUM). With more than 33 years as an
academic in the field of education, her focus areas include Entrepreneurship; High Order Thinking
Skills, Learning Styles, Open and Distance Learning, and Physic.
ZAINUDIN MOHD ISA is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Educational Studies, University Sains
Malaysia (USM). His area of expertise is Curriculum Planning, Special Needs Education, Learning
Disabilities (LD), Remedial Education. Upon his doctoral degree (PhD) graduation from Universiti
Kebangsaan Malaysia.
