What inspiring leaders do?

Three leadership traits that matter most;
Ability to focus intensely on customers need;
The ability collaborate with colleagues;
The ability to inspire;
Peter Ngu Tayong

The importance of inspiring leadership is

one of the most outstanding leadership
traits.
The ability to inspire creates the highest
levels of employee engagement and
commitment.

Peter Ngu Tayong

This is what separates most Leader from

the average and least effective leaders.
And its a factor most subordinates
identify when asked what they would
most likely to have in their leaders.
Peter Ngu Tayong

Each time this question is asked,

one gets a dear in the headlights
reaction!!!

What inspiring leaders do?

They set stretched goals with their team.

They spend time developing their subordinates.
They engage in highly collaborative behaviors.
They encourage people to be more innovative.
Peter Ngu Tayong

They make emotional connections with their

team example, establishing a clear vision.
They are more
communication.

effective

in

their

They are seen as role model within their

organization.
Peter Ngu Tayong

Inspirational Leaders are adept at making

emotional
connections
with
their
subordinates.
Nota Bene: Many leaders equate being
inspirational with being enthusiastic and
outgoing.
Peter Ngu Tayong

Other approaches leaders can take

to inspire their teams
The Leader can be inspirational in setting a
stretched goal in a number of different
ways.
This can be by creating compelling
vision(which we can here dub as the
Visionary Approach
Peter Ngu Tayong

Alternately, a leader can meet with

team members and have them
collectively set goals and have them
collectively set goals- called the
Enhancing Approach
Peter Ngu Tayong

10

Another Leader might determine

stretched goals by tossing out a
challenge to group and setting
specific deadline by which to make
it. This is known as the Driver
Approach
Peter Ngu Tayong

11

The team can be encouraged to find

an ethical goal. That focuses on the
organizations mission known as the
Principled Route

Peter Ngu Tayong

12

Yet another inspiring leader

might convene a meeting and
deliver a classic halftime Locker
room speech to set the goal
known as the Classic Enthusiast
Route
Peter Ngu Tayong

13

Or he or she might interview

team members to determine
what skills each may contribute to
the Teams effort. This is known
as the Expert Route
Peter Ngu Tayong

14

Inspirational Leaders might apply these different

approaches to any of their leadership
responsibilities.

For instance they might take a visionary approach

to champion change by imaging the company
implementing a new strategy or an enhancing
approach by encouraging Team members to
develop an innovative strategy together
Peter Ngu Tayong

15

Similarly a leader can produce peak

results by painting an exciting vision of
the future or be marshalling the Teams
enthusiasm to aspire to higher goals.
When Leaders use the right approach,
they can learn to become more inspiring.

16

In other words with awareness, good

feedback and a plan of development,
leaders are able to improve this
important leadership competency

Some Tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When Leaders help their team understand the
vision of what is possible to achieve, and the
way why in what they do, the y inspire the team
with passion to creatively find the how to
achieve huge results.
Unfortunately too many leaders stretch people
in areas that dont energize them, which lower
morale and increases turn over.

18

Inspiring
others
involves
understanding employees strengths,
values and aspiration and helping
them understand how those are
aligned.

19

There are so many ways to stifle the

creativity and smarts of your team, just as
there are lots of ways to get the most of
your people. You are either a Diminisher
or Multiplier.

Peter Ngu Tayong

20

Diminshers are all over us. They are empire

builders, they suck out fun out of their team,
they are tyrants, they know it all, they are
decision makers and worst of all, micromanagers.
They create the hell of business in
organizations, leading to careers purgatory as
we see in most jobs today.
Peter Ngu Tayong

21

Meanwhile, Multipliers are the magnet, the liberators, the

challengers, the debate makers, the talent managers, Chief
Excitement Officers (CEO), constantly bringing, excitement to
the team and breathing confidence and self-worth to their
team
as
well
as
invest
in
their
future.
