CLASSIFICATION AND LOCATION

OF FAULTS IN TRANSMISSION LINE VIA WAVELET TRANSFORM
ABSTRACT

PROJECT BACKGROUND

A technique is presented in this study to analyze fault

classification and location in two system models of
transmission line Single-Ended Series and DoubleEnded Parallel Models. Wavelet transform approach is
used in analyzing four different types of fault signals.
Daubechies 4 (Db4) and Haar mother wavelet are used
in classification and location of faults respectively.
Energy ratio is analyzed to precisely indicate the fault
types in minimum of times. Fault location is performed
with the error obtained is less than 1%. The validation
of this accurate result is done by comparing it with
several papers on the analysis of fault.

Transmission line is highly exposed to the occurrence of

fault that may lead to extensive effects on the system such as
disturbances, breakdown and damage in the equipment. For
a better recovery system, the fault should be cleared and
isolated immediately by classifying and locate its location
precisely. A comprehensive analysis of faults in transmission
line can help in improving the power system quality hence
maintaining the reliability of the power supply.
