withacorrespondencebetweenhimselfandH.P.B.andDamodar,andbecamepersonalafterour
meetinghim,in1882,atMadras.Itwasasthoughastorehouseofoccultexperience,longforgotten,
hadbeensuddenlyopenedtohimrecollectionsofhislastprecedingbirthcameinuponhim:he
recognizedhisGuru,andthenceforwardheldintercoursewithhimandotherMahatmaswithsome,
personallyatourHeadquarters,withotherselsewhereandbycorrespondence.Hetoldhismotherthat
H.P.B.wasagreatYogi,andthathehadseenmanystrangephenomenainherpresence.Hisstoredup
knowledgeofSanskritliteraturecamebacktohim,andhisbrotherinlawtoldmethatifyouwould
reciteanyverseofGita,BrahmaSutrasorUpanisads,hecouldatoncetellyouwhenceitwastaken
andinwhatconnectionemployed.ThosewhohadthefortunetohearhislecturesonBhagavadGita
beforetheT.S.Conventionof1886atAdyar,canwellbelievethis,soperfectseemedhismasteryof
thatpeerlesswork.Foramanofhisabilities,heleftscarcelyanymonumentthepapershecontributed
tothesepagesandtheonevolumeReportofhisfourAdyarlecturesbeingalmosthisentireliterary
remains.Asaconversationalisthewasmostbrilliantandinterestinganafternoon'ssittingwithhim
wasasedifyingasthereadingofasolidbook.Butthismysticalsideofhischaracterheshowedonlyto
