Introduction
This guide describes the setup for Workshop delivery of Windows Server 2012 Active
Directory Domain Services
The workshop labs use Hyper-V on Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8 Pro as the
virtualization platform for the lab virtual machines. The labs will not function on prior
versions of Hyper-V, Virtual Server, Virtual PC, or third party virtualization
technologies.
Note: The images that are used are running out-dated and disabled anti-virus software, so
these images cannot be attached to any customers production network or any public
network. The final configuration of the student computers it is recommended to have
network connectivity in the classroom. This does not require a connection to any
network outside the classroom or Internet access. Network connectivity would be needed
to distribute updated lab or PowerPoint documentation.
Note: The Windows client and Windows Server virtual machines used in this workshop
are activated via KMS. The activation is only good for 180 days so it is very likely these
two VMs will need to be reactivated. If a VM requests reactivation, you can use
slmgr.vbs with the rearm option. This provides a 30-day grace period.
Usage: slmgr.vbs rearm at a command prompt in the VM.
Note that rearm can only be used 3 times, so the best practice is to get the VMs
for each delivery from what regions (and not to store them elsewhere).

Virtual Machine Files for Workshop Labs (for Instructor and all
Student Computers)
The virtual machine files for this workshop are located in the same directory as
this setup guide:
C:\Exports

Each of the 8 VMs used for these labs are archived in a single WinRAR selfextracting, split archive. After download, you extract the files by running the EXE
files in the VM file folder. The executable will end with .part001.exe.
The final location of the extracted VM files on both the instructor and student
computers should be c:\exports.
After extraction you should have files for the virtual machines (a VHD file, the
virtual hard drive, and a VMC file, the virtual machine configuration). The folder
structure should be as follows:
C:\Exports\DC1-2008R2-C
C:\Exports\DC2-2012-F
C:\Exports\DC3-2012-C
C:\Exports\DC4-2012-C-FABRIKAM
C:\Exports\MS1-2012-F
C:\Exports\MS2-2008-F-Fabrikam
C:\Exports\ W7-Client
C:\Exports\ Win8-Client
Import the virtual machines. You can do this manually it isnt hard.
1) Create a virtual switch named Internal with switch type as Internal
2) Import each machine using the wizard.
Or you can do it with the script below:
<Start Copy below here>
# Import Labs
New-VMSwitch -Name internal -SwitchType Internal
import-vm -path "C:\Exports\DC1-2008R2-C\Virtual Machines\6BB0BD38-17AD-4794B5EF-E710A154B7A6.XML" -register
