Class Description:
World Studies is a full year required course that focuses on basic events in
human, political, economic, and social development. This course will
examine the different peoples and cultures that have appeared in history and
how they interact with and influence each other. As a class we will focus on
the Foundations of Civilization (300 C.E.) to Present-Day Contemporary Global
Issues. Furthermore, we will take an in-depth look at numerous events,
people, and civilizations that have helped shape the World that we live in
today.
Units of Study:
1st Semester
Geography & River Civilizations
Pre-Modern World
Turning Points in History

2nd Semester
Age of European Domination
20th Century Crisis
Global Civilizations & Issues

Required Materials:
TCI World Connections textbook
Pencils/Pens
3 Ring Binder with paper
Class Goals: Upon successful completion of the course students will be able
to
1. Interpret and analyze charts, maps, graphs, and data.
2. Source and compare and contrast documents to determine point of
view and bias.
3. Formulate an argument supported by primary and secondary cited
sources.
4. Positively collaborate with each other and the teacher.
Class Norms:
Classroom norms are intended to make our classroom an educational setting
with a relaxed atmosphere providing some guidelines we can all live up to.
1. BE RESPECTFUL
Use Appropriate Language, Volume, and Tone.
Listen When Others Are Speaking.
Clean Up Your Space.
2. BE RESPONSIBLE
Be On Time.
Have Supplies Ready When Class Starts (Book, Paper, Pencil, Homework,
etc.).
Remain In Seat Until Dismissed.

3. BE SAFE
Keep Hands and Feet to Yourself.
Keep Walkways Free of Items.
Failure to follow the classroom expectations may result in discipline with the
student, making parent contact, and/or administration discipline.
Grading Rationale:
1. It is the students responsibility to find out what work was missed as a
result of an absence.
2. If a student is absent, he or she will be given two days to make up any
assignments missed for each day absent (as long as the absence was
excused).
3. Any assignment turned in late will be reduced by 50% of its original
point total.
