Exams:

-Midterm exam: Wed, October 12, 2016, in class (50 min)


-Bell Ringing Exam: Monday, Dec 05, 2016, in-class (during lab-hours).
-Final exam: (Tentatively) 9:00 a.m. Tuesday December 20 (please follow
up on updates!)
All three exams will be closed-book and only faculty approved nonprogrammable calculators allowed.

Marking scheme:
Midterm exam: 10%
Bell Ringing Exam: 10%
Final exam: 40%
Project reports: 25%
Project test results: 5%
Dissection lab: 4% (4 labs) (1% for each of the labs, 1/4 deduction for
malfunctioning device after re-assembly)
Mini-project: 6%
WHMIS quiz: Successful completion of the WHIMS quiz is mandatory
for access to the machine shop and pick up of the mini-project kit.

students is allowed only with the prior written consent of the instructor or as a part of an
approved accommodation plan. Recorded material is to be used solely for personal study, and
is not to be used or distributed for any other purpose without prior written consent from the
instructor."
SSDS
For students who write exams with accommodations at SSDS, please be cognizant of their
deadlines and regulations. If you fail to meet these deadlines or follow the procedures, the
result is most likely that SSDS will be unable to provide the necessary space and/or services
you require. In these situations, you will be invited to write your exams with peers during the
allotted time in the assigned room.

Important Notes:
1. If a student misses the midterm examination, for any valid reason, the
final course assessment will be based on a 50% final examination.
2. Satisfactory performance in the midterm and final exams (combined
passing mark) is required for passing the course independently from the
project part of the course.
3. For group projects all the members receive the same mark by default;
however, in some cases, individual marks for group work may be adjusted
by up to 30% of the course total (up or down) based on the instructors
assignment and a confidential peer evaluation.
4. Successful completion of the WHIMS quiz is mandatory for access to
the machine shop.
5. Sample final exam from the course, as well as recent course syllabus,
will be on the course web page.
6. Anyone repeating the course should contact the Dr. Ayranci ASAP.

NOTE for the machine shop:


1. Depending on the load on the machine shop, please note the possibility
of capping shop-side student numbers at 25 at one time.
2. Safety glasses are mandatory. No tint allowed!
3. Shop will be closed to 260 students on Mon & Wed &Fri mornings shop
closed (including insurance and test days).
4. Shop will be closed to 260 students at all lunch and coffee breaks are
closed. ( bench space is open daily 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM )
5. No power cords allowed for computers or other electronics in the work
space.
6. Shoes with full covered toes are mandatory.
7. Floor length pants or equivalent is mandatory in the work space.
8. When necessary hearing protection has to be used.
9. When necessary face shield has to be used.
10. No orientation = no major or minor kit!!!
11. Appropriate clothing is mandatory: not too much/little/tight/loose
12. No jewelry, no loose long hair is allowed.
