Introduccin
Enesteartculosedescribeunaexperienciadedesarrollocurricularqueinfluencielrediseodelcursode
MatemticasRemediales(MA801).Sehaobservadoquemuchasdelasdificultadesquelosalumnos
tienenconelaprendizajedelclculo,yconotroscursosavanzadosdematemticas,estnrelacionadasala
faltadecomprensindelconceptodefuncin.Dificultadesconlagraficacindefunciones,conla
expresinalgebraicadefunciones,yconconectarlasexpresionesmatemticasconsusgrficasilustranel
bajoniveldecomprensinquelosestudiantesalcanzandeestosconceptos.Lasdificultadesobservadas
ennuestrosestudiantessonsemejantesalasreportadasenestudiosrealizadosenotrospases(Dubinskyy
Harel,1992;Janvier,1987;Kaput,1989).Sinembargo,siqueremosredisearloscursosdematemticas
enelespritudelaEstrategia1establecidaenlaMisin2005denuestrainstitucin,debemosinvestigarla
naturalezaymagnituddeestasdificultades,ybuscarunnuevoacercamientoaestoscursosenelquese
apoyealosestudiantesparaquealcancenunacomprensindelostemasestudiados.Enesteestudiose
investigeldesarrolloconceptualdelasnocionesdefuncinlinealycuadrticaenestudiantesdecuatro
nivelesacadmicos,desdepreparatoriahastaelltimoaodeingeniera.Losresultadosobtenidos
permitieron,entreotrascosas,redisearelcursodematemticasremediales.Elestudioesimportante
puesejemplificaunamaneradeabordarelrediseobasadaenlosresultadosdeunainvestigacin
educativa,eilustraunametodologaquesepuedeutilizarenotrosesfuerzosdedesarrollocurricular.
Objetivo
Elobjetivodelestudiofueexaminareldesarrollocognitivodelasnocionesdefuncinlinealycuadrtica
enestudiantesdecuatronivelesacadmicos.Losnivelesfueronprimeraodepreparatoria,yprimer,
cuartoyltimosemestredeingeniera.Sebuscdeterminarsiestudiantesennivelesacadmicosms
altostenanunamejorcomprensindeestosconceptos.Estopermitiidentificaraspectosdelcursode
matemticasremedialesquenecesitanatencinespecialduranteelrediseo
Hiptesis

Lahiptesisdelainvestigacinesqueestudiantesennivelesacadmicosmsaltosdebernteneruna
mejorcomprensindeestosconceptos,pueshanestadotrabajandoconellospormstiempo.Elestudio
seplantecorroborarorechazarestahiptesis.
Metodologa
Paraobtenerunamejorcaracterizacindeldesarrollocognitivodelosestudiantesseutilizarontcnicasde
investigacincuantitativasycualitativas.Paralapartecuantitativaseestudiaron9gruposdematemticas
conuntotalde132estudiantes.Paradeterminarelniveldedesarrollocognitivodelosestudiantesseus
elmodelopropuestoporSfard(1991).Sfardproponequelaformacindeconceptosmatemticos
evolucionajerrquicamentedesdeunaconcepcinoperacionalhastaunaestructuralpasandoportres
etapas.EstasetapassonInteriorizacin,CondensacinyReificacin.Enelcontextodeesteestudio,esta
teorapredeciraqueunmayornmerodeestudiantesenlosnivelessuperiores,quehanestadoestudiando
losconceptosdefuncindurantemastiempo,alcanzarnlaetapadereificacin,queestudiantesenlos
nivelesacadmicosiniciales.Utilizandoestateorasediseouninstrumentoescritoparamedirla
comprensindelconceptodefuncin.Elinstrumentopermiteexaminarlasconcepcionesquelos
estudiantestienendeestasnociones(verinstrumentoalfinaldeesteescrito).Elinstrumentousa
problemasmatemticosqueincluyendistintasclasesderepresentacionesdelconceptodefuncin
(simblica,grfica,numrica)ypermiteverlaflexibilidadycomprensinconquelosestudiantesusan
estasdistintasrepresentaciones.Elinstrumentoconstade12problemasconuntotalde40reactivos.El
instrumentosevalid,seprobenunestudiopiloto,yserefin.Delamismamaneraseconstruyuna
rbrica,oescalacontrescategoras,paraevaluarlasrespuestasdelosalumnos.Paratratardeestablecer
elefectoenlaconcepcindefuncindelnivelacadmicodelestudianteseinvestigaronlassiguientes
relaciones:(a)lasinteraccionesentrenivelacadmicoyelnivelconceptualparaelconceptodefuncin
lineal,(b)lasinteraccionesentrenivelacadmicoyelnivelconceptualparaelconceptodefuncin
cuadrtica,y(c)lasinteraccionesentreelnivelacadmicoyelnivelconceptualtantoparaelconceptode
funcinlinealcomocuadrtica.
Lacomponentecualitativadeesteestudiempleentrevistasindividualesconunamuestradelos
estudiantes.Untotalde16estudiantes,4decadanivelacadmico,fueronseleccionadosdeacuerdoalas
respuestasquedieronenelinstrumentoescrito.Elpropsitodelasentrevistasfueelcorroborarlos
resultadosobtenidosconlosmtodoscuantitativosyelobtenerinformacinmasdetalladasobrela
comprensindelosestudiantesencadanivelacadmico.Lasentrevistasseusaronparaproporcionarun
vehculoparacomprendercmoesquelosestudiantespiensanycmoesquellegaronadesarrollarlas
nocionesquetienen,comoloexplicanBogdanyBiklen(1992).Lasentrevistasseaudiograbaron,y
transcribieronparapoderseranalizadas.Unadescripcinmsdetalladadeestosmtodossepuede
encontrareneltrabajodeColungaCavazos(2002).
Resultados
LastresinteraccionesdescritasenlaseccinanteriorseprobaronusandoANOVAdemediciones
repetidas.LasTablas1y2muestranlosresultadosdelanlisisestadstico.Losresultadosindican
diferenciasestadsticamentesignificativasentrelacomprensindefuncinaliniciodelapreparatoriayla
comprensindefuncinenlossemestresdeingeniera.Losestudiantesdeingenieramostraronunmejor

desempeoenlaspreguntasdelinstrumentoquelosdepreparatoria.Sinembargo,noseobservaron
diferenciassignificativasentreeldesempeodelosestudiantesenlosdistintossemestresdeingeniera.
Losresultadostambinmuestranquehaydiferenciassignificativasentrelostresnivelesdecomprensin
alcanzadosporlosestudiantes.Unnmeroestadsticamentemayordeestudiantesalcanzanelnivelde
Interiorizacinquelosotrosdosniveles.Igualmente,unnmerosignificativamentemayordeestudiantes
alcanzanelniveldeCondensacinqueeldeReificacin.Porejemplo,slo3deuntotalde132
estudiantesalcanzaronelniveldereificacinenelcasodelconceptodefuncincuadrtica.

estosetomencuentayseapoyaalestudianteparaquecomprendaestasnociones.
Elsegundoresultadomostrquehaydiferenciassignificativasentrelostresnivelesdecomprensindelos
estudiantes.Estosresultadosproporcionanmasevidenciadequelaformacindelosconceptosde
funcinlinealycuadrticasedademanerajerrquicapasandoporlostresnivelesdescritosporSfard
(1991).Otrosestudioshanencontradoevidenciaenestadireccin(GoodsonEspy,1998;Kieran,1992;
KieranySfard,1999).Unopuedeconcluirdeestoqueparalamayoradelosestudianteslaconcepcin
operacionaldefuncineselprimerpasoenlaadquisicindeestosconceptos.Estosetomencuentaen
elrediseodelcursoMA801yahoraseabordanestosconceptosiniciandoconunacercamiento
operacional.
Finalmente,creemosquelametodologadescritaenesteartculoesvaliosaparatodosaquellosquese
proponenredisearotroscursosdematemticas.Losresultadosdeinvestigacinenelreadel
aprendizajeyenseanzadelasmatemticasenlosltimosaoshanproducidouncuerpovaliosode
conocimiento.Podemosaprendermuchodeestareadeinvestigacin.Esimportantequeaqulquese
proponeredisearuncursodematemticastomeencuentaloqueseconocesobrelasdificultadesquelos
estudiantestienenconlosconceptosestudiados.Esimportantetambininvestigardeprimeramanolas
dificultadesespecficasquelosestudiantestienenconlosconceptosmatemticosqueseestudiarnenel
curso.Losmtodosaqudescritosconstituyenunejemplodecmolainvestigacineducativapuede
influenciarpositivamenteelrediseodeloscursosdematemticas.
