TSUNAMI SCENARIO
M8.3 Earthquake from Manila Trench
IMPLICATIONS
Integration of earthquake risks and other geological
hazards in planning is critical in transport infrastructure
resiliency.
Surface faulting, ground shaking, liquefaction and
tsunami can severely aect various transport systems,
such as in Metropolitan Manila and vicinity. Engineering
mitigation must be employed, redundancies
constructed or utilized and response plans should be
developed.
Batangas Port to the south and Subic Port to the north
of Metro Manila should be developed and utilized to
reduce exposure to earthquake risk.
A redundant airport outside of Metro Manila, such as
Clark, should always be maintained.
