IQ will get you hired; EQ will get you promoted. Statement
that somehow has a point to consider realizing what we need and
what we need to have a stable job in the future. But before for
that, let us understand what IQ and EQ means.
IQ or Intelligence Quotient defines the level of
intelligence an employee possesses to understand, interpret, and
implement ones knowledge in varied situations. According to
psychologist, IQ is among the ingredients for success. This is
the capacity to learn or understand new situations to apply the
knowledge in current circumstances.
While EQ or Emotional Quotient refer to understanding of
his or her emotions along with his or her colleagues emotions at
the workplace to create better work coordination and environment.
So, we need both IQ and EQ in our long lasting job.
In a dissertation in titled A Correlative Analysis of the
Affect of Emotional Intelligence on Moral Decision-Making., we
have three or more intelligences cognitive intelligence (IQ),
emotional intelligence (EQ) and spiritual intelligence (SQ). It
discuss that mind cannot experience itself. They all have to be
experienced in something greater than the mind. It simply
suggests that both IQ and EQ cannot give a greater experience
that a mind can give. This principle explains in the part of
spiritual intelligence. Our choices and acts are not only
dependent on how we think and how we are sensitive but also we
consider moral values. But from the beginning, IQ and EQ
introduced us how to interpret situations and understand the
feelings of our workmates based on spiritual beliefs that can
give us a good record to our work.
Flynn Effect suggests that IQ tests dont actually measure
intelligence, and around the world massive attention is given to
cognitive development.
This suggestion somehow we can experience in job hunting. As
I observe, during interview we need to bring credentials to show
our performance during school days. They are aware also on how we

speak, to make conversation and even our appearance. In this,

they can already judge if we have a high IQ and this is the time
that we are already hired. So many teachers said that we need to
study hard to have a higher grade as a weapon to compete to the
other applicants. And that statement, IQ will get you hired.
supported. But sometimes documents do not show of what you
learned but how wise you are during schooling.
As we stay longer in our working place, our true attitude
will come out easily on how we deal with our workmate and new
faces in our work. In this, it measure by our EQ. How our
emotions can cooperate to other. How can we understand their side
when it comes to discussion? How can we be a leader to our
people? Those situations that we need a wider thought and be open
minded. In this, if we learn already to handle our EQ, we could
be promoted because your people agree to lead by a person with a
high EQ.
We cannot argue to the human resources of a company on how
they hire or promote their employees because I do believe that
base on their psychological study they always consider first
their people on how to think, interpret and understand
situations. Later on, in a long term of working, by observing
their people on how to deal different people with different point
of view they can decide already on how to give their people a
reward.
Many article asked, What is more important IQ or EQ? Why
we need to compare both important aspects to have? Why just ask,
How to have a good IQ or good EQ to enhance myself to easily
hired or promoted?

2. How does ones emotion affect job performance? Discuss this

through using your school experiences.

Emotions definitely
and even small decisions
our mind is already lost
lead us into a situation
handle it properly.

affect studying. Our actions, thoughts

are always dependent on our emotion if
by our feelings. Sometimes our emotions
that can cause us trouble if we cannot

In school for example, a feeling of lost. There are many

circumstances in my mind, problems, plans but any of this cannot
process on how to start. It teaches me on how to become stupid
and weak. My mind and emotions do not cooperate. And at the end
of day I feel useless.
During results of exams or quizzes, I dont know sometimes
to handle my emotions especially when I get low scores. I already
talk about my faults. I count my mistakes and blame it to myself.
And at the end of the day I dont have energy to study my notes
because I feel there is no progress.
Another is that, my situation from my house if I am in good
terms then I have a good energy with my classmates but if not my
emotions will trigger and my classmates will suffer with my bad
mood. I do believe that problems at home will always be stay at
home to avoid trouble with others but in any instances we let our
emotions lead. So at the end of the day no one will talk to me.
Emotions play a big role in our daily activities in our
school. It corresponds on how we participate, communicate and act
based on emotions we possess. It is good if we possess a positive
emotion so that we can achieve favorable outcomes. But if we
possess negative emotions like sadness, anger, stress, etc., we
expect that the outcomes will give us also problems. And this, we
back again on how to handle it.
Our selves are mysterious that we surprise suddenly about
our own emotions. We need to know first our emotions even if it
is positive or negative to avoid confusion and troubles to others
especially to our study. In this, we can plan on how to handle
our emotions when the day comes.

3. What do you think is your best quality that will make you an
asset in a company/industry? In what way will this quality be an
asset?

It is important to have a good quality to proud of. My best

quality that will make me an asset in a company is being
trustworthy.
Trustworthy is someone you can trust and reliable.
Being trustworthy expected that I am faithful to my company
no matter what. These simply emphasize how I am honest to the
costumer and my co-workers at the same time the company itself. I
do believe that employees actions reflect the image of the
company to the costumer, it means every employees need to be true
and credible to whatever they say.
In making decisions, discussions or giving ideas, staff can
trust me to handle those situations. Because I know within myself
I will do my best to make satisfying decisions for our better
company.
I will give inspiration to others for being trustworthy. It
begins to our self and can be used to other. Because of my
passion to work it help me to enhance my character to adapt in
every situation.
This is me. I choose this asset because I know within myself
I am a person that you can trust no matter how long you know me.

4. People are fond of making judgments. How do judgments affect

working environment? Use two (2) references to enhance your
discussion. Cite the references properly.
Judgments have a big effect to our working environment
especially if it is negative. We will feel insecurities and we
will lose are focus in work. We will feel always that there are
many eyes on us ready to judge and criticize. And later on, we
are already conscious or afraid to do mistakes that even our own
self judge our self.
On James Clear's blog, James tells about his experience for
being judged. He said, It wasnt the criticism from outsiders
that held me back. It was my own mind worrying that people would
think I was a loser because I skipped getting a real job to
start some website. When I started writing, it wasnt the

hurtful comments from readers that prevented me from getting

started. It was my own fears about what they would think if I
wrote about the things I cared about. In this case, our own self
is our enemy to make our self free to do what we want. But later
on in his blog he said, his reader starting to write negative
comments go his site. But still, he always thinks the positive
side especially that many of his readers appreciate his works and
he gives inspiration.
In a research paper titled, Bad Is Stronger Than Good,
state by Roy Baumeister and researchers at Florida State
University, we remember negative emotions much more strongly and
in more vivid detail.
We are more likely to remember negatives than positive
comments that tends us to down our self more. Some said, it is
better to hit many times than saying bad words about you.
According to Baumeister, when it will come to your brain, it
takes about five positive events to make up for one negative
event. Meaning it is difficult to forget, it will be scars in
your mind.
People have a different approach to the judgments. Other
used it as an inspiration to prove their self. But those people
who do not know how to handle judgment they feel mistakes and
insecurities.
Mario Andretti, a car racer, said, Focus on the Road, Not
the Wall. Judgments and negativity from other people is like a
wall. If we will look at the wall, then we will end up hitting
it. Our minds will blocked by negativity that can distract our
attention to our true focused. But if we focused on the road, we
can move forward safely by speeding past the walls and barriers.
If someone judges us use that to recommit our work and refocused
again on the road.
Our life is too short to worry about pleasing judgmental
people.
5. How important are groups in accomplishing a task? What makes a
group cohesive and what breaks it? Use two (2) references to
enhance your discussion. Cite the references properly.

Groups are a perfect example of the power of combined effort

that can lead an amazing creation to accomplish task. The task
often involves analyzing a problem, formulating a solution and
making a recommendation to the companys management. Work groups
efforts can result in improving company operations and also
benefit the employees who participate in the groups.
Groups are important to personal development as they can
provide support and encouragement to help individuals to make
changes in behavior and attitude. Develop your interpersonal
skills such as speaking and listening as well as team working
skills such as leadership, and working with and motivating
others. It allow people to become more confident and learn new
interpersonal, social and practical skills through observation as
well as practice. As group membership can improve self-esteem and
confidence so it can also improve self-motivation and the desire
to learn and develop.
According to the phrase of Henry Ford, Coming together is a
beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is
success. In groups, give us the real-world experience of working
with other people and shared responsibilities with them and
engaging in brainstorming. Intentionally members are about
helping each other when they work in groups that can help them to
develop relationships with each other. They can share also
personal opinions and life goals. Groups simply emphasize a word
together no matter what until they finish their task.
In the site of Cornell University center for Teaching
Excellence states how the groups formed. It formed according to
their skills, backgrounds, ability, and work experience that they
can share in common and make their group more cohesive.
As always it has no permanent in this world. Even closed
friends are within the group they cannot avoid misunderstanding.
Some people might take more than their share of the discussion by
talking too often, asserting superiority, telling lengthy
stories, or not letting others finish. There will always be a
conflict between members when it comes to decision making.
To ensure to have successful groups each member should
respect the ideas of other group members. Let us show how

interested we are to hear their opinions and when disagreeing do

so politely and respectfully. We need to do some negotiation and
compromises to make the members participate well without
hesitation.
Albert Einstein said, Nothing truly valuable can be
achieved except by the unselfish cooperation of many
individuals. We can achieve something with the help of
cooperation but it starts with our individuals interests.
