Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to the new school year! I am looking forward to a wonderful year and hope
to get to know both the students and their parents on an individual basis. In my classroom,
I believe that all students can learn, and I will achieve this through motivation. Therefore, I
plan to inspire my students to gain three outcomes from their education: a broad range of
opportunities in the occupational field, self-confidence in oneself to strive for a higher
success, and more chances to accomplish goals in life.
Grading Policy
Grades are Weighted as Follows:
5% - Classwork/Homework/Notebook Check/Participation
80% - Learning Target Assessments/Projects
15 % - Final
Grading Scale:
A 90% - 100%
B 80% - 89%
C 70% - 79%
D 60% - 69%
F
0% - 59%
Classwork/Homework/Notebook Check/Participation
All class PowerPoint notes and their fill in note takers will be posted on the eTUSD class
website. Students are given the option to print out the note takers and use them to take
notes in class or use notebook paper. I highly recommend students who struggle with note
taking and/or with math to print out the note takers. Students should expect to have
classwork and homework almost everyday. These will be randomly checked and graded
throughout the semester for completion, organization, and correct headings for each task.
It is extremely important for homework to be completed and understood since homework
drives assessment. Based on my experiences as a teacher, students that complete
homework and try to make sense of it are more likely to perform better on assessments.
Class Participation will include their participation in pairs, groups, and in class.
Class Agenda and Homework Assignments: Planbook.com
The class agenda and homework assignment will be posted on planbook.com (there is also
a mobile Ap for it) for both students and parents to view. You must go onto student view
and log in with the following:

Absences
Students are responsible for making up both classwork and homework on the days that are
missed, except for truants and activities. Students will have one day to make up work for
each day they are absent from class.
Learning Target Assessment
Students will be given a learning target log each unit which lists the learning objectives that
need to be achieved. Each learning target will be initially assessed during the unit
assessment and can be reassessed throughout the semester. A score of 1- to 4+ will be
assigned for each learning target (see scoring rubric below). If the learning target is
reassessed during the semester the old score will be replaced with the reassessed score
regardless of an increase or decrease in the score.

Benefits of the Learning Target Grading System:

1. Students are able to see which learning targets they are struggling with so that they
can focus on improving and mastering them.
2. The focus is on retention of Learning Targets throughout the semester.
3. Provides opportunity to improve grades throughout the semester.
Tutoring
South High School CSF students in higher level math classes and teachers will be
available for afterschool tutoring from 3:00 to 4:00 in the library Monday through Thursday.
I will also be available to help students in class individually. There are plenty of days
throughout the year where students are given the entire class period to work individually on
improving their understanding of learning targets they are struggling with. I highly advise
students to use this opportunity to get individual help from me.

Classroom Conduct
Tardies: You are considered tardy if you are not in your seat when the bell rings.
Electronics: No cellphones, Ipods, or other electronics. They will be confiscated
upon sight and turned into the attendance office.
Students may not talk when teacher or classmate have the floor.
Be kind, polite, and cooperative with actions and words. No profanity will be
tolerated.
Academic Honesty: It is NOT acceptable to copy the work of another and claim it
as your own. It is also NOT acceptable to make changes on your assessment using
anything other than a red correcting pen. If ANY academic dishonesty is discovered,
ALL students involved will receive zero credit, a referral to an administrator and a
possible U in citizenship. I adhere to the South High Guidelines for Academic
Honesty.

I believe in order to have the most effective learning outcomes this school year, not only
will the teacher and student be responsible for being prepared to learn, teach, and work
hard each day, but also, the parents have a role to fulfill. Please support your child by
checking for completion of homework daily, asking your child what he or she is learning,
and encouraging your child to work and socialize well with others.
