tonavigateandevenexperiencedwoodsmennewtotheEchoWoodsfindthemselveseasilylost.

AlejiasCrossing:
SetonthecrossroadsofValleyRoadandMosswaterRoadisasmallinn
runbyaretiredadventurer.Theinnservesmerchantsandtravellersalike,buttheareaissaidto
befrequentedbybanditswhopreyontheunwary.
TheEmeraldSpire:
Thissmallkeepofvibrantgreencrystalisancient,possiblybeingone
oftheoldeststructuresintheregion.Thecentralspireofthekeepiscomprisedofastrangegreen
glassharderthangranite.TheclearingsurroundingtheSpireiscuriouslydevoidoftreesandthe
denseunderbrushofthesurroundingwoods.Itiscommonknowledgethatbeneaththeruinsisa
dungeon,butitssizeisunknown,astheruinhasneverbeenfullyexplored.

FortInevitable:
Abastionoflawinalawlessregion.FortInevitableisasmallcity
mercilesslyruledbyanorderofHellknightswhohavededicatedthemselvestodefendingthetown
andCrusadersRoadfrombandits,monsters,andotherdangers.FortInevitableisoneofthefew
locationsintheRiverKingdomstopermitslavery,andmanycrimesarepunishablebyalengthof
forcedservitude.However,whiletheHellknightspermitslavery,theydonotcondonetheabuseof
slaves.
Mostoftheinhabitantsarefinewiththeiroverlords,focusingtheirenergyonfarmingand
equippingtheassortedcrusadersheadingnorthtotheWorldwound.Thosewhocanstayoutofthe
wayoftheHellknightsarehappyforthesecuritytheyprovide.However,notallresidentsare
contentwiththeHellknightsrule,andtherearerumoursofaresistancemovementgainingin
numbers.
Mosswater:
Abandonedfiftyyearsagoafteraseriesofmerrowattacks,thetownisa
reminderthantheEchoWoodarenotsafe,evenforlargersettlements.Theogresthatdevastated
thetownstilllurkinGlowWaterLake,encouragingtravellerstodetouraroundthatstretchof
CrusadersRoadforthesaferValleyRoad.

GrandmotherlyOreenaisadruidwhoworkstospreadtheGreenFaith,
teachingthetownsfolkofThornkeeprespectforthewoods.
Thornkeep:
Aforeststrongholdfrequentedbybrigands,pirates,mercenaries,and
barbarians.Thornkeepisruledbythestrong,whoareabletotakewhattheywantandkeepwhat
theyhave.Thislawlesstownharborsthedangerousandthedesperate,andservesasalocation
forbanditstospendtheirtaintedgold.
However,thereareanumberofhonestfolkwhomaketheirlivinginandaroundthetown;
whileThornkeepisdangerous,itissaferthanthewildsoftheEchoWoods.Artisansearnadecent
living,providinganecessaryserviceandneededgoods,andthereisathrivingloggingindustry
providinglumberfortheassortedhomesteadsandpointsofinterestintheregion.

fortifications.Thehalflingsareknownfortheirextensivemushroomgardens.

FewofthepeoplelivinginFortInevitableorthe
surroundinglandshaveeventheslightestinklingofthe
dungeonstrueextent,letaloneitsastoundingage.
StandinginawideclearingwithintheEchoWood,the
EmeraldSpireistheruinofalargeAzlantitowerthat
appearstobemadeofgreenglassharderthanstone.The
upperportionsofthetowerweredestroyedlongago,
leavingbroken,halfmeltedglassblockslyingjumbled
aroundthetowersperimeterandthegroundnearby.The
siteiswellknowntolocalsfrombothFortInevitableand
Thornkeep,andmanytravelerspassingthroughthe
CrusaderRoadareamakethetrekintotheforesttolookontheruinsfromasafedistance.The
Spiresruinsareknowntobeinfestedwithdangerousmonsters,andthesurroundingsattractan
unhealthynumberofbandits,raiders,andhungrypredators.

lawandorder:thewalledtownofFortInevitable.
Fromitssternkeep,companiesofHellknightsride

bringauthoritytotheunclaimedlandsoftheCrusader
Road.Whilethetaxesimposedbythetownsrulers
areheavyandthelawsinflexible,noonecandeny
thatprosperityhasfollowedtheHellknights
establishmentofhardjusticeinthissmallcornerofthe
RiverKingdoms.Merchants,travelers,andadventurers
journeyingontheCrusaderRoadfindthatFort
Inevitableprovidesarareislandofsafetyinan
otherwiselawlesslandsolongasoneiscarefulnot
torunafouloftheHellknightslaws.

SheisthecommandingofficeroftheOrderofthePikeschapterintheCrusaderRoadregion,ruler
oftheCitadel,highmagistrate,FortInevitableTheEmeraldSpireSuperdungeontaxassessor,
directorofpublicworks,keeperofthetreasury,andchiefregulatorofbusinessandcommerce.

TheHellknightsforcefullypatrolFortInevitableandthesurroundinglands,enforcingDrovusts
strictlaws.Theyswiftlyintervenetobreakupbrawlsandpreventcrimes.Theymaintainalong
wantedlistofknownorsuspectedcriminals,andregularlycirculatesketchesordescriptionsof
suspects.Banditsandothercriminalsfromnearbytownshaveasaying:TheHellknightsnever
forget.

Whileobviousmonstersarefairgametoall,theHellknightsdonotrecognizetherightofany
selfdeclaredadventurertokillvillainsandseizetheirbelongings.Thatscommonbanditry,and
thosewhoridebacktoFortInevitableaftercommittingsuchvigilantismcanexpecttobe
arrestedunlesstheyvefirstsecuredaletterofwarrant.

Aletterofwarrantisalicensefromthelordcommanderauthorizingthebearerandhercompany
toactintheinterestofgoodorderandkeeptheladycommanderslaws.Theladycommanders
agentsalsorequirereportsofjustwhatactionsweretakenwithaletterofwarrant.

Whiletheladycommanderseemstowieldcompleteauthority,appearancescanbedeceiving.Two
