Prerequisites:
There are no as such prerequisites required as Professors will cover every part in the class but
the solidification part involves certain important terms related to the Phase transformation
course. It would be beneficial if you remember course content of Phase transformation.
b) Casting:
Slides and class notes are sufficient
c) Joining:
Books - Welding Metallurgy by Sindo Kou, Principles of Welding by R. W. Messler.
Reference materials Ternary Phase Diagrams in Materials Science by D. R. F. West and
S. Saunders.
Class notes and slides are crucial.
It is recommended to make class notes and write as much details as possible into notebook as
dictated by the professors during lectures in each part of the course.
Miscellaneous:
Class notes & regular lectures are keys to score a good grade in this course. The questions in
exams are directly from the problems which were being solved in the class especially in the case
of casting. Prof. K. Bhanumurthy teaches concepts which are either not explained properly in
the book recommended by Prof. or it is difficult to get it from online study material. It is
recommended to be regular in class and note down as much details as possible. Both professors
are student friendly and are inclined towards learning of students. Also, it is been observed that
going through previous year papers and solving back questions of relevant chapters of
recommended books helps a lot in scoring good marks.
