Organizational Behavior is a field of study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups, and structure have on behavior
withinorganizations,forthepurposeofapplyingsuchknowledgetowardsimprovinganorganizationseffectiveness.Thiscourse
focuses on such topics as leadership skills, personality, interpersonal communication, motivation, team building, organizational

Studentsfrequentlycomplainabouthavingtoworkongroupassignments.Theprimaryreasonsforthesecomplaintsare(a)often
somememberswill"dragtheirfeet"andforceotherstopickuptheslack,and(b)interpersonalconflictsariseinthegroupcontext.
Althoughthereiscertainlysomemerittothesecomplaints,weinsistonincorporatingthegroupprojectsasasignificantelementin
thecoursebecauseoftwomajorconsiderations.

First,thiscourseisabouthumanbehaviorinorganizationalsettings.Learningabouttheconceptsinthiscourse(asistrueofthe
conceptsinmostanycourse)isfacilitatedbypermittingdirectexperiencewiththem.Thus,byformingminiorganizationsineach
classmeeting,youaregivenagreaterchancetodirectlyexperiencesomeofthethingsyouaretryingtolearnabout.Second,the
vastmajorityofyouwillfindyourselfifyouhaven'talreadydonesoworkingingroupsatsometimeoranother(infact,many
ofyouwillspendthemajorityofyourworkinglivesasmembersofagroup).Thereisnochancewhatsoeverthatyouwillavoid
slackinggroupmembersandinterpersonalconflictaftercollege.Whynotfacethemusicandstartnowtolearnhowtocopewith
thesefrustratingelementsofgroupwork?

thoughtsclearlyandmakeyourpointslogical,briefandwithsupportingrationale.Thisleadstothefollowingsuggestions:
1. Organizeyourpresentationwell.Whatisthemainpoint?Howwillyousupportit?
2. Linkyourideastoclassconcepts.Integratewithotherreadings,speakers,etc.
3. Showyourownindependentthinking.Focusonnewunderstandings.
