redesigned to adjust the vertical clearance from the underside of the
Handrail to the horizontal arm of the Bracket.
This Style B Formed Handrail Bracket offers a 112" horizontal
and vertical clearance to meet code requirements and the
recommendations of the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design
(ADASAD).

While the 1991 ADAAG stated that the distance between the wall
and Handrail had to be 112", all subsequently published model
codes including the 2010 ADASAD now state this to be a
minimum requirement.
Be aware however that NFPA 101 notes a minimum wall clearance
of 214" between the wall and Handrail. Always confirm requirments
with the local authority having jurisdiction prior to specifying any
Railing products.
Not all Brackets will meet all code requirements. Confirm
your local requirements and the Bracket dimensions prior to
specifying.

Check with your local code authorities prior to specifying any
railing system. The following are the most common requirements in
commercial and residential applications:
Handrail is required on stairs and ramps.
Height: 34 to 38 inches above stair nosings and ramp surfaces.
Load Requirements:
50 lbs/ft uniform load or
200 lbs. concentrated load
Clearance:
Between wall and Handrail: 112" minimum
Exceptions:
NFPA 101: 214" minimum

1. Dry assemble all components to confirm fit and dimensions

prior to final assembly.
2. For Adhesive connection to the Post:
a. Apply Epoxy to the inside wall of the top of the Post.
b. Insert the Post Brackets into the Posts.
c. Confirm alignment by setting Slotted Handrail into place
before Adhesive sets.
3. For Set Screw connection to the Post:
a. Drill and thread a 14-20 hole, 58" to center from the top of the
Post.
b. Insert the Post Bracket into the Post.
c. Set Top Rail into place to confirm alignment.
d. Use the 14-20 Set Screw provided to lock the Post
Bracket into place.
4. Once Top Rail is in place, confirm alignment and tighten the two
Set Screws on the underside of the Expansion Connector.

In a stairway, guard application 42" high codes will

generally require that a Handrail be provided at a height of between
34" and 38". With Glass Railing systems refer to Pages I3 to I21,
these Glass Mounting Brackets permit attachment of Brackets
directly to or between tempered glass structural balustrades.
Provide 34" hole for 12" glass; 1316" hole for 34" glass. Refer to
table on B17 for minimum hole requirements.

Permits the Vertical Mount Bracket and Post Bracket to be used

with Pipe and Tubing. Satin finish.
These optional Fillers are for plaster walls or wall board to prevent
overtightening of matching Handrail Bracket which may result in
cracking the drywall.
Available with one clear center hole for 38" Mounting Bolt, or one
center hole and three tapped clear holes for 14" Mounting Bolts.
These Fillers are used with Style B and 14" Formed Handrail
Brackets shown on Pages B2B4. Use Plated Steel Fillers with
Aluminum and Bronze Brackets call for availability.
