THE COMMITTEE
PRESIDENTS
COMMITTEE

PATRONS

As President I welcome everybody to the Parndana Agricultural,

Horticultural and Floricultural Show for 2016.
I am very honoured to be elected President for this year and it is my
pleasure to invite you all to attend this years show. The theme for
the 57th Annual Parndana Show is Spring, Life & Colour and it is
the societys aim this year to celebrate everything wonderful about
the island in spring.
This year we encourage everyone to spring into action to get
creative with their entries and bring a burst of colour. Most sections
have a themed category and this year there are some great prizes on
offer for those more imaginative entries. This year there are 26
different sections in the book to choose from so there is a section for
everyone to get involved.
At the show this year you will get to enjoy all of your favourite
attractions like the shearing competition, dog jumping, horses in
action, young and junior farmer challenges, great pavilion displays,
local food, sites and just all around fun for the whole family.
At this time I would like to take this opportunity to thank all
committee members, convenors, stewards and volunteers for all that
they have done in helping to bring this show to life. It takes an
incredible amount of work to bring together a show even if it is a
small one like Parndana.
Also I would like to thank all sponsors of the show for this year,
without their continued support this show would have been
incredibly hard to put together. So thank you and I hope that all of
the people who attend our show will support the people who
supported us.
I encourage you all to participate in the show in some way, whether
it is by volunteering, by having a stall, entering exhibits or just
attending and having a good time.

TRACEY & CRAIG BOXER

PROUD SPONSOR OF
THE PARNDANA SHOW
LEGO COMPETITION

63 | P a g e
SPRING, LIFE & COLOUR

This award is decided upon by the Parndana Show Society along with
the staff of Finding Workable Solutions
This year we are hoping to acknowledge young people
under the age of 20 years who have been involved
in the running of the Show.

Outstanding Achievements
In the last 6 years since KIPG started, we have achieved the following:

Lowered freight costs from $70 to $40 (who knows what they would be now?)
Built a state of the art receival site which has the least waiting time of any in South Australia, that is able to
store separate quantities of any size and quality, for any customer, and operates in the interest of KI growers
foremost
Accepts grain with snails and/or gravel which cannot be removed in the harvesting process under KI conditions
and then cleans it
Stores grain suitable for end users, not just bulk commodity users
Developed markets that will pay for the safety and traceability of grain from KI
Traders that used to perceive KI as unreliable deliverers now pay a premium as KI is the most reliable deliverer
Worked with farmers to develop new crops that are more suitable to the KI climate and rainfall, such as soft
wheat, broad beans and linseed
Developed premium markets for these more suitable grains, including exports to Indonesia, Malaysia &
Thailand for fried broad bean snacks.
pristine image of KI, such as Simon Bryant, PAL Systems and Skala Bakery
KI farmers are now recognised by customers as producers of premium food, not just commodity producers
KI brand is becoming more and more valuable to these food producers in the price they charge for product and
is flowing back to the KI farmers
Has become a model for agricultural marketing in South Australia with great support from PIRSA and the
Government
Developed customers around the world that value KI products, even though they yet may not know anything
about the rest of Australia
Employs up to 10 Kangaroo Islanders
Uses local carriers exclusively

Kangaroo Island Pure Grain = pristine, safe and traceable food
