This 3 credit course provides an introduction to clinical toxicology and drug abuse. It will be taught on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:55-3:15 PM in St. Albert Hall 128 at St. John's University. The course examines the principles of toxicology as they relate to human poisoning and the mechanisms and treatment of commonly encountered toxic agents. Topics include alcohols, gases, metals, pesticides, sedative-hypnotics, opioids, and toxins with bioterrorism potential. Evaluation consists of a midterm, final, term paper, homework, and quizzes.
