Our Program

Habitat for Heroes is a program designed to

assist civilian veterans, returning veterans,
wounded veterans, and the families of the
fallen in the Greater Peoria and surrounding
area. The program provides veterans with
access to quality affordable housing, the
opportunity to engage with the community
and fellow veterans, and the chance to serve
others by volunteering.

Mission Statement
Seeking to put Gods love into action, Habitat for
Humanity brings people together to build
communities, homes, and hope.
Uniting the community with people in need to
provide the life-changing opportunity to
purchase and own quality and affordable homes.

Vision Statement

Our Build

A world where everyone has a

decent place to live.

Habitat for Humanity Greater Peoria Area will

build a new, EnergySTAR rated efficient
single-family residence for a local veteran
family who served our country proudly.
Habitat provides simple, decent, and
affordable housing solutions. Individuals,
organizations, clubs, and companies are
invited to form teams and support the home
construction.

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Peoria Area is

a faith-based organization that envisions a place
where every resident has access to quality and
affordable homeownership opportunities. We
seek to build self-sufficiency for residents in need
through the life-changing opportunity of
homeownership. We want to see vibrant
neighborhoods where engaged homeowners
participate in building safe and healthy
communities.

Why Veterans?

Nearly 4 million veteran households pay

more than 30% of income for housing. More
than 1.5 million of these households pay
more than 50% of income for housing (severe
cost burden). Almost 1 million veterans who
own homes are severely cost burdened,

struggles economically. Approximately 1.4
million veterans (6.7%) live in poverty.

East Peoria, Illinois | 2016-2017

Our Family
Specialist James Stevens joined
the Army in 2010. His training
taught him the importance of
loyalty, duty, respect, and honor
for his country and fellow
soldiers. After basic training, he
was stationed at Fort Riley,
Kansas. In May of 2012,
Specialist Stevens was deployed
to Afghanistan where he was
stationed at the Combat Outpost
Zerok up in the mountains.

Life at this post demanded that every soldier be

responsible for patrol and guard duty. While there, he
experienced the significant loss of three fellow soldiers. He
will never forget them or their sacrifice. After moving back
to Illinois in 2014, he drilled at the Bartonville Armory until
May of 2016.

Congressman Darin

Our Sponsor

Congressman Darin LaHood is the Master
Sponsor for
our third Habitat for Heroes Build. Our veterans have
given so much to our great nation that we will always be
indebted to their service and sacrifice. And although we
cannot fully repay them, its rewarding to be able to give
back and support them in any way we can. Habitat for
Heroes is a great opportunity to do just that.

Our Hope

Habitat believes in honoring soldiers who have risked their

lives for God and Country. You and your organization will
be enriched by the experience of supporting this endeavor.
We would like
to invite you to join us in creating a new
home for a deserving veteran family.

Contributing to the construction of a quality affordable

home like this veteran build is one of the most tangible
investments that an individual church or business can
make. Our goal is to have all costs and materials
associated with the build donated by the completion of
the home.
