AKA IN THE USA : THE FRENCH

INDIAN WAR 17541763

Why do you need to know about

the Seven Years War?
( French Indian War)

It set the stage for the Revolutionary war.

Without the Seven Years War, which cost a lot of

$$$,

it wouldnt have caused a lot of following

actions to happen.

Who Was Involved?

It was the FIRST world war. It

began in North America, but
ended up spreading around the
world to other British colonies in
Europe, Africa and Asia

In North America, it was

between, The British and the
French- who were supported by
Native Americans, except the
Iroquois.

Why did the Seven Years War

Happen?
Growth & Conflict

As the population of the colonies grew, settlers pushed

west towards the Appalachian Mountains.

This led to increased conflicts with the Aboriginal peoples

who inhabited those regions, particularly in the Ohio
River Valley. English settlers were taking their lands.

Violence was perpetrated by both groups.

Why did the Seven Years War

Happen?

France and England Never. Stop. Fighting.

BEFORE the seven years war France Lost another War to

England. (The War of Spanish Succession 1700s) France had
to surrender Acadia to England. 1713

They didnt Want to lose more land, or another fight so they

built a Huge Fortress on Cape Breton Island called Louisbourg
to defend themselves against another fight.

What Happened?

The French had the upper hand in the first years (1755-1757) stopping an assault on
Louisbourg and overtaking several forts on the frontier (ex. Fort William Henry).

The British built up their navy at Halifax.

Tensions grew. In 1755 the British decided to deport the French Canadians

from their homes in Acadia. ( this is the land that the French had to
surrender to the Britain in the loss of The War of Spanish Succession)

At this point the new British Prime Minister, William Pitt, decided to
devote more troops to NA.

The French were winning the war in Europe, so the British hoped to
defeat them in the colonies.

The French did not receive extra support, and the tide of the war
began to turn.
