Do you enjoy seeing your family, friends and society creating a world of illusions with
their own devices that pertains to their identity? It is crucial to understand that technology has
created a world filled with lies and mental abuse. The environment and culture is also a crucial
factor that contributes to technology destroying our identities. Society focusses more on social
media and to what others post thus creating entertainment to fill the lust of a persons selfish
mentality in order to feel good about themselves. The psychological digital identity which
modifies our lives and becoming addictive loosing sight to the real lives. Technology has
affected the identities detrimentally through social media.
The use of social media creates a type of world that allows a person to escape ridicule
from being reported and establish an identity to satisfy ones needs to escape the real reality.
According to the Social Media Sites As A Means Of Coping With A Threatened Social Identity
authors explain, A common finding among research is that users were motivated to access SMS
to connect and reconnect with existing friends and family members rather than form new
relationships. In these studies, self-esteem operated as a moderator between SMS use and
bridging social capital among college students, and individuals with lower self-esteem benefited
more than those with higher self-esteem (Ellison et al.; Stein-field, Ellison, & Lampe, 2008)
Social media users are using the easy access to run away from problems rather than confront
them. People should face these problems and thus become a better person instead of relying on

the device. People are not forming a relationship that is sustainable and not just acutance non
supported friend or might be influence. It demonstrates that the lower self-esteem is more useful
to them than the higher self-esteem. However, technology should assist all not just one factor.
For this reason, the higher self-esteem will want to continue and be what the majority of people
want to be which just adds to the negatively it is or will become. Furthermore, the authors also
express that A social identity links a persons self-concept to associations with a social group
(Tajfel & Turner, 1979). Tajfel (1981) defines social identity as that part of the individuals selfconcept which derives from their knowledge of their membership of a social group (or groups)
together with the value and emotional significance of that membership (p. 255). The theory
posits that individuals are motivated by a need for high self-esteem and being tied to a social
group fulfills this need (Tajfel & Turner, 1986) The person relies more on the fake identity and
create a world of their own. This has created a negative outlook because people conclude that
they dont need to interact in person because it could be just online. Also wanting to be more in
the mobile device deceive and less at facing reality. To the extent of our identities to be hidden
because of social media.
In the research of Putting the social (psychology) into social media, the author writes,
Despite these findings that underline the so-cial reality of social media, this somewhat limited
attention by social psychologists ceded the study of the topic to other fields within psychology,
such as clinical psychology with questions about internet addiction, loneliness, aggression,
online therapies, etc., and other disciplines, such as media studies, sociology, or political
science. There is less communication or knowing what the person where feeling if they were
using a device or mobile phone. Being pressured to create a social media account. It also affects
our health issues. They also write, While the internet, and social media especially, is un-

doubtedly the most powerful tool of cultural globalization today, cultural differences manifest
themselves as a complex interaction between the local and global within social medias own
culture influenced by its technological possibilities. It let us be not with our families and pay
focus more attention to the screen than personal real lives. It takes us to site that we dont see or
that are inappropriate, you information could be lost more easily viruses will come.
Authors from, You Don't Look Like Your Profile Picture: The Ethical Implications Of
Researching Online Identities In Higher Education, claim Perhaps one of the darkest examples
of the risks of disingenuous online identity construction is the emergence of the catfish
phenomenon. A catfish is someone who pretends to be someone theyre not using Facebook or
other social media to create false identities It has stolen our identities because we can create a
fake identity. People abuse the power they have and defeat the purpose of socializing in social
media. To make bonds and not black mail or create more problems. In addition, The internet,
and the technologies that have come to be known as social media, have ushered in a new era of
identity construction. As a result of technological changes, it is now possible for individuals and
organizations to create online identities, which are only loosely connected to their material
reality. In social lives it is affecting how we perceive thus creating a bad technology perspective
identity affects our actions see more of the problems at home. Affect our health benefits. They
could create more illegal or trap you into a maze.
The author of the Personal Identity And The Self In The Online And Offline World
evaluates, A main characteristic of social networking is to form webs of links among persons
whose identities are there on the social networking websites. It is typical for a member of
Facebook to have hundreds of friends. It does not matter how many of these friends are
those whom the member actually meet and interact in real life; what does matter is that the

Huizar 4
interaction is taking place more and more online. The line between the real person (or the
offline one) and her projection onto social networking sites (her online self) is becoming
blurred. People use it as an escape. Because something mad might have happen in our digital
lives we make it worse by trashing people or threating that they are going to kill someone or now
that we can order things more easily on line we can activate or order bomb toxic fumes that can
destroy many people. People are being controlled and take over by technology.
Technology and the use of social media effects a person negatively. We are being eaten
by technology. People are being controlled and allowing themselves to be controlled by social
media. Society seeks for pleasure to help themselves thus inflicting pain on others. Technology
creates war online and in the minds of the people or victims. We should just use technology less
and only use it when it is needed. Access information that is needed. The outcome and selfesteem should not be taken lightly or be used to affect our self and others with a selfish
motivation. It should help the other person with problems to maybe look in a better perspectives
or understand what can improve flaws. It is not used to insult others but instead argue in a
knowledgeable respect full way instead of offending a person. Also think before you speak.
Although, technology has taken away identities also how it is easy to hack it which people
should be encourage to motivate or influence others to stop the amount of social media. To help
the people in reality than to be forever stuck in the world of devices.
