Chapter 2 Functionalities for the standard user

The Welcome screen
Leonardo welcomes you with a screen where you can download the Users Guide.

Click the

icon and choose among the usual options:

Open if you wish to open directly the Users Guide;
Save if you prefer to save the document on your PC;
Cancel if you change your mind.

In addition, this screen makes available to you four tabs:

The Search tab

In the Welcome screen click the Search tab.

You reach the Search Experts screen, with no records displayed yet.

Basic search
Click the

button located at the extreme right of the screen.

All the experts in the database are displayed in a list sorted first by CoE Domain, then by Legal Entity,
then by Last Name.
For more details about the CoE Domain parameter see Filtering by CoE Domain.

For each expert, the list contains the essential data, as shown...
and includes the picture of the expert when available from the Active Directory, the Group-wide IT
repository of network accounts.
The full list is actually subdivided in pages, each containing 15 names. To view other pages, go to the
bottom of the screen and click another page number.

The basic search is not very convenient. For a more focused search you can utilize five optional input fields, or
filters: see Filtered search. As a visually-oriented alternative, you can directly browse the Competence Tree: see
The Browse tab.

You can modify the width of any column to show more effectively its content. In the title area let the mouse hover on
the boundary between two columns until the cursor changes to the double-pointed arrow and the message Drag to
resize shows up. Then click-and-drag towards the right to increase the width.

In a similar way you can decrease the width of any column, by means of a click-and-drag towards the left.

Displaying details
Click the expert of your choice among those retrieved by your search. The Expert Profile screen
appears.

This screen includes the picture of the expert, when available from the Active Directory, and offers a
more comfortable way of reading all the other fields.
If the expert has on record more than one Grade, or more than one Competence, the Expert Profile
screen lists all the Grades (in chronological order) and all the Competences.
Additional details may be present in the free-text Specific Expertise field at the bottom of the screen. If
you are an Expert, you can edit your own text: see Editing the Specific Expertise in Chapter 3.
The fictitious example shows all these features to their maximum extent.

Filtered search
To search efficiently the database you can utilize five filters.
Two filters are free-text input fields:

Three filters are pull-down menus:

Filtering by Name
Type a string of characters (e.g. hassan) in the Name filter and then click Search. The expert having
that string in his / her First Name or Last Name is displayed.

You can use either small letters or capital letters: the search algorithm is not case-sensitive.

When the string of characters (e.g. matt) corresponds to more than one expert, all the experts having
that string in their First Name or Last Name are displayed.

Filtering by Legal Entity

You can focus your search by choosing a specific Legal Entity. For example, you might be interested in
in the Legal Entity filter and choose Technip
finding experts belonging to Technip Oceania. Click the
Oceania PTY Ltd. from the pick list, so that it shows up in the filter; then click Search.

Filtering by CoE Domain

Each expert in the database is associated to only one of 10 areas, called College of Experts Domains,
or CoE Domains for short:
Asia Pacific
Brazil
Middle East
North America
North Sea & Canada

Process Technology
Region A
Region A Subsea
Region B
Subsea

You can focus your search by choosing a specific CoE Domain. For example, you might be interested in
finding experts belonging to the North America domain.
Click the
in the CoE Domain filter and choose North America from the pick list, so that it shows up
in the filter; then click Search.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Filtering by Competence
You can focus your search looking for a particular word within the three levels of the Competence Tree
(Discipline, Expertise, SubExpertise: see in Appendix The Competence Tree for an overview of the
whole Tree) and within the additional field Specific Expertise.
As an example, you might be interested in finding experts in data analysis. Type data in the
Competence filter and click Search.

Three experts are found: one of them has the string data in the 2nd level of the Competence Tree
(Expertise), one has it in the 3rd level of the Competence Tree (SubExpertise), and one has it in the
Specific Expertise field.

This filter is very literally minded: it uses exactly the word you type, with exactly your spelling. If you type
structures you find 10 experts; if you just type structure you find three experts, not included in the
previous list. In order to avoid this behavior you can use the wildcard operator %: therefore if you type
structure% you find all 10 + 3 experts.
The less characters you type, in conjunction with the wildcard, the broader your search will be: if you type
struct% you find 53 experts (3 for structure, 9 for structures, 40 for structural and 1 for both structures and
structural).

You can use more than one word in this filter, joining them by means of logical operators such as AND.

See in appendix The Search logical operators for a more detailed description of the various operators
available.

As an example, if you just type

pip%
you would get a very long list. But if you are interested in finding pipe / pipeline / piping experts in
materials, you might type
pip% AND materials
getting the list down to 33 names. And nothing prevents you from focusing your search even more, say,
typing
pip% AND materials AND steel
and the list gets down to five names.

10

You can also mix the operators, as in pip% AND (weld% OR NDT)

Filtering by Competence Tree

You can focus your search by choosing a particular branch directly from the Competence Tree. For
example, you might be interested in finding experts in Materials / Corrosion. Click the
in the
Competence Tree filter and start expanding the Tree.

11

When you reach the particular combination you are interested in, select it with a single click. The lowest
branch selected shows up in the Competence Tree filter; then click Search.

All the experts having that particular competence are retrieved from the database and displayed.

If you dont know the exact wording of the competence you are looking for, selecting the appropriate branch of the
Competence Tree may not be obvious. A more effective way could be exporting the Tree (see The Competence
Tree Export tab) and then using the searching and sorting capabilities of Excel.

Multiple filtering
You can utilize any combination of the five filters at the same time.
For example, you might be looking for experts having a particular competence (e.g. mooring systems)
within a given Competence Tree branch (e.g. Marine engineering) and belonging to a specific legal
entity (e.g. Technip France Paris).
Fill the desired filters as appropriate and click Search.
12

All the experts having that particular combination of characteristics are displayed.

Exporting the results

Click the

button located at the extreme right of the screen.

The results of your last Search (e.g. the Piping / Materials experts) are exported to Excel. The Excel file
is composed of two sheets:
a) the Main data sheet

b) the Grades sheet

If you click Export with no filter active, the Excel file will contain all the experts in the database, sorted first by CoE
Domain, then by Legal Entity, then by Last Name.

13

The Browse tab

In the Welcome screen click the Browse tab.

You reach the Browse Competence Tree screen.

This screen provides a user-friendly, visually-oriented way of navigating the Competence Tree. The
Tree is displayed in a continuous manner, scrollable with a vertical motion.

Hovering with the mouse over the branches of the Tree, some of them light up and a floating balloon
tells you how many experts are associated with precisely that competence (not including sub-branches).

14

Click a highlighted branch; the relevant experts are displayed in a dedicated window on the right of the
screen. In the example (Structural / Buildings branch) three experts are found.

Click the Expert Profile link just below a picture; the corresponding Expert Profile screen shows up.

15

Click Exit to get back to the Browse page.

The Charts tab

In the Welcome screen click the Charts tab.

A pull-down menu appears.

Each one of the four menu options corresponds to a screen dedicated to that chart.

Experts by CoE Domain chart

This chart displays the number of experts as distinct persons in each CoE Domain. If an expert has
been assigned, say, two competences, that expert (who shows up twice in the Search Experts screen)
here counts as one.

16

Letting the mouse hover on the various slices of the pie chart you can display the corresponding floating
legend with further detail, i.e. the number of experts in that domain vs the total number.

Clicking the

icon in the upper-right corner of the chart opens up a menu:

The first menu option allows you to print the chart on the printer of your choice. The other options can
be used to save the chart on your PC, either in two different graphical formats (PNG, JPEG) or as a
one-page PDF document.

Experts by Grade chart

This chart displays the number of the experts as distinct persons currently having a Grade. If an expert
has been assigned, say, two competences, that expert (who shows up twice in the Search Experts
screen) here counts as one.

17

Please refer to Experts by CoE domain chart for details on the floating legends and the

icon.

The total number of experts shown in this chart may be lower than the one seen from the Experts by CoE Domain
chart. The reason? Not all the members of the College of Experts (each of them being a foremost leader in the
respective field) have been awarded a Grade.

Experts by CoE Domain and by Grade chart

This chart displays the number of the experts as distinct persons. If an expert has been assigned, say,
two competences, that expert (who shows up twice in the Search Experts screen) here counts as one.

Please refer to Experts by CoE domain chart for details on the floating legends and the

18

icon.

The total number of experts shown in this chart may be lower than the one seen from the Experts by CoE Domain
chart. The reason? Not all the members of the College of Experts (each of them being a foremost leader in the
respective field) have been awarded a Grade.

Experts by Year of most recent award chart

This chart displays the number of the experts as a function of the year of their respective last award. A
person nominated Expert in 2010 increments the 2010 count; a person nominated Main Expert in 2002
and General Expert in 2010 increments the 2010 count only.

Please refer to Experts by CoE domain chart for details on the floating legends and the

icon.

The total number of experts shown in this chart may be lower than the one seen in the Experts by CoE Domain
chart. The reason? Not all the members of the College of Experts (each of them being a foremost leader in the
respective field) have been awarded a Grade.

The Competence Tree Export tab

In the Welcome screen click the Competence Tree Export tab.

Chapter 3 Functionalities for the Expert

In addition to the functionalities described in Chapter 2 for the standard user, the Expert of any Grade
has two dedicated functionalities: the My Profile tab and the possibility of self-editing the Specific
Expertise field.

The My Profile tab

When you, an Expert, enter the application, Leonardo recognizes you as being referenced in the
database. Therefore the Welcome screen includes for you the
tab.

Click that tab. Your own Expert Profile screen shows up as described in Displaying details. In other
words, the
tab is a shortcut equivalent to searching for yourself and displaying your own
details stored in the database.

Editing the Specific Expertise

You, as an Expert, have the possibility of describing, in your own words, your professional skill and
experience.

21

Click the MyProfile tab; your Expert Profile screen shows up. Click Edit.

The Specific Expertise field opens up for editing, and the button label changes to Save.
Now you can modify the text, including any detail you may think useful for an accurate description of
your professionality, up to a maximum of 350 characters (including punctuation and blanks). When you
are done click Save.

You get a confirmation message:

Click OK, then click Exit.

22

Within the 350-characters limit you can choose your own style. Three possible examples follow.
Example 1: 176 characters (including punctuation and spaces)
Chlorochemicals, electrochemistry, chlorine, caustic, hydrogen, chlorhydric acid, electrolysis, dichlorethane,
bleach, membrane, diaphragm, chlorate, perchlorate, brine, potash
Example 2: 225 characters (including punctuation and spaces)
Pipeline and flowline connection systems, flowline valves and valve actuators, retrievable flowline valve
actuators, export pipeline valves, manifolds, subsea pig launchers and receivers, subsea production system
architecture
Example 3: 275 characters (including punctuation and spaces)

Appendix 2 The Search logical operators

The logical operators described here can be used to control how the search algorithm works (see
paragraph Filtering by Competence).
When typing the search strings you can use either small letters or capital letters: Leonardos search
algorithm is not case-sensitive. The same is true for the logical operators:
and is equivalent to AND
or is equivalent to OR
not is equivalent to NOT.

AND
Retrieves the records containing simultaneously the two
strings apples and oranges, with exactly that spelling
but not necessarily in that order.
In lieu of AND you can use the & (ampersand): the two operators are completely equivalent.
The exact spelling is essential: searching for the string oranges does not retrieve the records containing
substrings such as orange. To modify this behavior you can use the wildcard operator % (see below).

OR
Retrieves the records containing either the string apples
or the string oranges or both, with exactly that spelling but
not necessarily in that order.
In lieu of OR you can use the , (comma): the two operators are completely equivalent.

NOT
Retrieves the records containing the string apples but not
containing the string oranges, with exactly that spelling.
In lieu of NOT you can use the - (minus): the two operators are completely equivalent.

Wildcard %
Retrieves the records containing the substring orang
followed by any number of characters.
Retrieves the records containing the substring rang
preceded or followed by any number of characters.

29

Multiple operators, same type

Retrieves the records containing simultaneously the three
strings apples, oranges and grapes, with exactly
that spelling but not necessarily in that order.
Retrieves the records containing one or two or all three
strings apples, oranges, grapes, with exactly that
spelling but not necessarily in that order.

Multiple operators, mixed type

Keep in mind that AND has a higher priority than OR and NOT (you can use the brackets to modify
such priority).
Retrieves the records containing both strings apples,
oranges or, as an alternative, the string grapes or, as
an alternative, all three strings.
Retrieves the records containing the string apples, or, as
an alternative both strings oranges, grapes, or, as an
alternative, all three strings.
Retrieves the records containing one or both strings

apples, oranges and simultaneously the string

grapes.
