Injector leak-off rate measurement procedure


The leak-off adapter kit (Perkins kit number 27610323) contains:
Leak-off measurement adapter with a 1 metre hose.
Ten replacement dowty washers (Perkins part number 2415D003)
Tools required:
17mm spanner.
17mm socket and torque wrench.
A suitable container for fuel.
A 0.5 litre capacity measuring cylinder.
Communications adaptor.
Laptop with EST installed.
1 Ensure that the area around the injector leak-off connection to the fuel transfer pump is clean.
2 Start the engine.
3 Operate the engine to normal opearting temperature.
4 Stop the engine.
5 Wait for the engine to cool down. Remove the banjo bolt.

6 Fit the leak-off adaptor and dowty washers. Refer to illustration A.
Note:

Do not flex the leak-off pipe excessively as the securing clips may be damaged.

7 Connect the hose.


8 Place the other end of the hose in the container.
9 Connect the service tool communication adaptor to the engine connector and computer.
10 Turn on the engine controller.
11 Launch the electronic service tool software.
12 Take a screen capture of the ECM summary view. Ensure the data in ECM summary view matches the known engine data.
13 Start the engine.
14 Record the time taken for the engine to fire.
15 Use the machine engine speed controls to set the engine speed to 1000 rpm. If the machine does not have a speed setting of 1000 rpm, set the
engine speed as close as possible to this speed.
16 If possible, set the engine load to a constant value.
17 Ensure that there is a constant flow to fuel into the container.
18 Press start in the electronic service tool.
19 Move the end of the hose from the container to the measuring cylinder. Start timing.
20 After three minutes move the hose from the measuring cylinder and into the container.
21 If the measuring cylinder is full of fuel in less than three minutes, record the time taken to fill the measuring cylinder to 0.5 litre.
22 Press stop recorder in the electronic service tool.
23 Stop the engine.
24 Measure the quantity of fuel in the measuring cylinder. Record the quantity of fuel on the form that is provided.
25 Disconnect the hose from the leak-off adapter.
26 Remove the leak-off adapter.
27 Fit a new dowty washer to the banjo bolt. Place a new dowty washer between the banjo connection and the transfer pump port. Further replacement
dowty washers can be obtained from your Perkins distributor.
28 Refit the banjo bolt and torque to 21 Nm.
29 Dispose of the fuel in accordance with local regulations.

When the service tool measurement has finished, send the three files, ECM Replacement file, Prognosis file and the Data Log. In addition send
a screen capture of the status screen along with the leak-off measurement to Gunner_Ben_D@perkins.com.
Save the log file as engineno_yyyy_mm_dd.
Set up the data recorder to record channels by selecting Add, New - Name. For example, Injector leak-off test, select OK, New group.
Select save to file.
To set up the data log select - Information, Datalog, Recorder.
Set the recorder to 240 samples per minute, for five minutes, five second pretrigger, manual trigger.
Save an ECM replacement file with all the available data. Save the file with the filename that is provided. Ensure that the data is current by selecting
Load from ECM.
Download all the avaiable prognostics information from the ECM to the electronic service tool. Save the information to a text file by selecting Load
Data then Save Data. Do not change the filename.
