PROCEDURE FOR BACKFILL

The purpose of this procedure is to detail the means and materials that will be
used to perform structural backfilling on the project.

Location and Material

The location and extent of structural backfilling shall be as indicated on the
drawings or defined in the reference documents.
Material to be used for backfilling shall base on drawing.
The Contractor shall perform filling and backfilling work in accordance with
this section and as shown on the approved drawings or as directed by the
Owner.

Sequence of Works

On completion of the foundation or footing, and the inspection of the

same the excavated areas shall be backfilled with the above material in
lifts the thickness of which shall be determined by the type of equipment
to be used for the compaction of the backfill Please refer to the equipment
list below.

Backfilling shall not commence until the request for inspection before
backfilling is completed and any deficiencies corrected. All areas to

receive backfill shall be free of water, debris and organic material and
shall be sufficiently wide to permit the equipment to operate efficiently.

Backfill work shall to be with approved material refer specification to

elevation and lines indicated on drawing. Backfill work will be compacted
layer per layer use vibro roller or stampper with every layer. Material back
filling will be carry from quarry distance of project. The estimation
volume, heavy equipment requirement will be follow construction
drawing.

Density Test
The required density for structural backfilling shall be as follows :

Layer 30 cm from the finished surface shall be compacted to 90% of
maximum dry density according to AASHTO
c.
Field density test (CBR) shall be carried out for 2500 m2 or 50 m x 50 m
of each lift / layer.
d.
If location not properly for CBR Test shall be conform to ASTM D 1556
for sand cone replacement method.

The following equipment shall be available for the purpose of compacting
structural fill :

1 Ton Baby Roller, 2 units
Wheel Barrow
Hand tools for trimming.

Quality Control Reporting

The following items shall be inspected and recorded on the appropriate
inspection form during execution of the work:
a. Sub-grade Preparation Inspection.
b. Fill Material Inspection.
c. Lift Thickness
d. Density Testing Results
e. Final Level.
