Information and exercises

1. Teach the song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in class.
2. Project a music sheet of the piece with lyrics in front so that the
students can follow the melodic contour and its lyrics.
3. Divide the song in three parts:
a. Twinkle twinkle
b. Up above the sky
c. Twinkle twinkle
4. Teach the song by rote and in repeat after me format. I dont
think you need to teach this song by Grade 1, children,
generally, already know this.
5. Keep in mind to always give the reference pitch before letting
the children sing.
6. After learning each parts, let them sing the entire song.
7. Ask the students which part of the music sheet projected have
the same or relative melody.
8. As a guide, the teacher can show a picture corresponding each
segment of the music.
9. Distribute a printed music sheet of the song Twinkle Twinkle.
10.By writing letters A and B, let them recognize the similar parts or
melody.
11.Assess their answers by singing again the song and by asking
them their answers.
12.Discuss the following in class:
a. What is a form?
b. Importance of having a form in music
c. Writing letters as symbols on recognizing the form
13.Divide the students in groups or pairs.
14.Have them improvise their own movements based on their
interpretation of the song Twinkle Twinkle.
15.Give them a short time to think of their steps.
16.Note that they should execute the same steps or movements on
parallel parts.
17.Have them perform their work in class.

5. PRACTICE AND FEEDBACK

1. For reinforcement, the teacher can choose a song they learned
from the past.
2. Be able to recall the song in class and sing it together.
3. Project in on the projector so that the students can follow its
melodic contour and flow.

4. Ask the students questions like when does this line repeat?, is
this line the same as this?, what is the difference of this line to
this? pointing on the projected music sheet can help the
students analyse the song.
5. Identify the form in the class discussion. Since this is Grade 1, I
suggest that instead of just talking about it, you have them do
another movement activity or something to identify form.
6.

SUMMARY

What is a form?
How to divide music in parts with the use of letters? This question is not
necessary it will just confuse them.

7. ASSIGNMENT

Identify your favourite nursery rhyme and be able to analyse its form.
Write its lyrics on a short bond paper and put letters A B C to divide it by
its sections.
Not appropriate for Grade 1 this kind of independent activity is a
challenge for them. Have this as another class activity instead they need
you to be around to be able to do this.
Bring the ff. materials next meeting:
o glue
o colored papers
o scissors

8. ANECDOTAL RECORD
Score: 17/20
