1. Measure Section Applied

Measured stratigraphic section is a cross-section or a stratigraphic column that describes the
condition of a track, which deliberately been chosen and has been measured to represent the area
where the measurements done. The measured path may include one or more rock formations.
Otherwise the measurement can be done only on a portion of a formation, so that only covers one
or more units lithostratigraphy smaller than the formation, for example, members or even just
some of the bedding course.
Goal:

Information concerning the detailed lithological types, kinds, a constituent component,

texture, container, fossil content, sedimentary structures and other geological
characteristics of each unit contained in the path.
Position and thickness of each lithology encountered.
The sequence of all the existing lithology and lithology types of relations of the two side
by side, whether in harmony, not aligned, insert, alternating, graded normal or inverted
and so forth

Stratigraphic column obtained from the measured track ready to be used as the basis for:

Determination of the exact boundaries of stratigraphic units of formal and informal, that
the base map used or not mapped, thereby increasing the accuracy of geological mapping
conducted at the place where the measurements were taken earlier.
Depositional environment interpretation of existing units in the field as well as the
geological history of the formation of the column at all times.
Means correlation with the columns that are measured in the other lane.
Making the cross-section or a stratigraphic profile (stratigraphic section) for the region.
Evaluation of lateral (spatial = space) and vertical (temporal = time) of all existing units
or a portion of the selected units, such as:
Coating as a potential sandstone reservoir.
Coal seam.
Fossil-rich layers certain.
A layer of bentonite and others.

There are two methods commonly performed in an attempt to track measurements stratigraphy.
The method is:

Method rope range.

Jacob's staff method.

Method rope range or also known as Brunton and tape method (Compton, 1985; Fritz & Moore,
1988)
Method rope range or also known as Brunton and tape method (Compton, 1985; Fritz & Moore,
1988)
Done with basic stretching rope. All distances and thicknesses obtained based on the range.
Measurements by this method will directly produce the actual thickness fulfilled only if the
following requirements ":

Tightrope direction perpendicular to the track bedding.

Direction of slope of a cliff or a tightrope perpendicular to the direction of the slope.
Among the two ends of tightrope no change stance and the tilt

Measurement of thickness using a stick Jacob (Compton, 1985).

The another function of measure section for measure thickness of a layer

Measurement of the thickness of bedding tilted on flat areas.

Lanes 1-2

t = d sin

Line 1 -2

t = d 'cos sin

= slope bedding

= angle of deviation from the direction perpendicular stance
