Immersed myself in a brand new culture by visiting museums, national monuments, and cultural

Learned to manage living independently in another country
I discovered my passion for helping children after volunteering at a Therapeutic Nursery
School in Oakland, California. This school was in a very rough area and it was designed for
children ages 3-5 who were so emotionally disturbed they could not be function in a regular
preschool. These children had witnessed and undergone traumas that one could not imagine. I
absolutely adored these children who were so innocent, yet had already seen so much. After this
experience, I became determined to help children in those types of situations. I decided to get
my multi-subject teaching credential because I wanted to experience the general education
setting. I am aware that some children depend on their teacher as the only stable adult in their
life, and I want to be available to provide the support that all of our youth deserves.
While I was completing my student teaching in 2014, I was offered my first teaching post at
Schutz American School in Alexandria, Egypt. I have spent the past two and a half years living
and teaching in Egypt. Completing my first year as a teacher in the Middle East was a challenging
and rewarding experience in many ways. Living in a developing country holds its difficulties,
especially one that has recently been through a revolution. I learned an incredible amount about
myself as a person as well as a professional.
One of the reasons I was interested in becoming an international educator is because I believe
that all students deserve a well-rounded education, which international schools can provide.
Students are able to join many teams and clubs that meet all of their unique interests. They are
given the incredible opportunity to be a part of a classroom community that includes people from
all over the world, which gives them the ultimate multi-cultural experience. These individuals are
also granted opportunities to go on enriching excursions around their countries, which gives
students different perspectives that they might not develop otherwise. I want to become a part of
that incredible experience and help these students along their journeys of such a wholesome
education. Furthermore, I strongly believe in gaining perspective about our world and
experiencing many different cultures, which I have been doing by traveling to other countries and
immersing myself in their lifestyles and traditions.
Besides working in Egypt, I have had many other experiences living abroad. I resided in
Barcelona, Spain for 4 months when I was 20 years old and studied with an international
university program. I have traveled all over Europe many times, which has made me skilled at
navigating an unknown city quickly and effectively. I have traveled to South East Asia twice,
backpacking all over Thailand and Vietnam. Also, I have been flying to the east coast of USA
three times a year since birth. I am very used to traveling and visiting new places, making me
extremely adaptable to foreign situations. I am a very open and flexible person because all of my
experiences abroad. I believe I am a worthy candidate for international teaching because I feel
that I have the experience and the passion to support my students in all ways possible. My
experience with other cultures in my travels and my understanding of children puts me at an
advantage, and I am excited and ready to grow in my career as an international educator.
