This year, in an effort to promote the development of public speaking skills, we would like to provide
students with opportunities to give oral presentations of a childrens books author (previously assigned).
During the week your child will need to do the following:
On Monday:
The child will come to school dressed-up as the author (be creative and use what you have at
home). He/she can wear these clothes all day.
The child will make an oral presentation (SHOW AND TELL) about this special author and some
characteristics that makes him/her unique using a cardboard poster as a visual aid. I really
appreciate if your son/daughter contributes making this poster by cutting, coloring or pasting. It is
important that they take part in this important creation. This poster will be exposed in a bulletin board
in the class for the week.
The child should bring to school some of the most famous books of the author (they are available
at the library). This way, we can read them together in class during the week. We will take them
back to the library as soon as we are done with them.
On Wednesday of that same week at 8:10-9:00 am (please note that it can be until 9 am or shorter):
Mom, Dad or both parents of the assigned child will come to the class to make a special/fun activity.
It should be related to the author, a specific book, a character of the book or the country the author
comes from.
Bring a treat that will be shared during snack that same day (brownie, cookie, homemade
bookmark, quote, small cupcake, etc).
We are very enthusiastic about implementing this activity with our students. Its a great opportunity for them
to practice researching, public speaking and have fun too!
Thanks very much for your help with this project. We are so excited to see the creative ideas you and
your child come up with. Happy Author Studies!
