A study which is about a socialization group activity therapy has given benefits
of coping with mental disorders and reduces patient's anxiety level. However, this
therapy is rarely conducted in Kendari Mental Hospital. The group activity therapy is
rarely conducted because the nurse's ability to implement the group activity therapy is
inadequate and there is no guideline of implementation and caring which is proposed
to implement the group activity therapy in the hospital. The aim of this study was to
identify the effect of a socialization group activity therapy on the anxiety level for the
social isolated patient in Mental Hospital in South East Sulawesi Province.
This study was an experimental study with Pre-experimental design of pre post test. The population of this study were 43 people, whereas the sampling
technique used a purposive sampling technique and the number of samples were 30
people. Analytic method used Wilcoxon Match Paired Test.
The results showed that the anxiety level before they were given the
socialization group activity therapy of the heavy category were 20 respondents
(66.7%) and after they were given the socialization group activity therapy, the number
of heavy anxiety level which declined were 5 people (16.7%). While the mean value of
before the socialization group activity therapy increased to 9.77 and t calculation = 7.616
and p value=0.001. This showed that the socialization group activity therapy had a
significant effect on a reduction of the anxiety level for the social isolated patients.
For the service institution and other institutions have to increase health
services and nursing care in order to give the group activity therapy, especially for
social isolated patients so the ability of socialisation will increase and the social
isolated patient's anxiety will reduce.
