THE ROLE OF YOUNG GENERATION IN COUNTER TERRORISM
In this modern era, people around the world are now familiar with the term
terrorism.Terrorism itself is a criminal act committed with the intent of causing death, fear, and
provoking a state of terror in the general public or in a group of individuals. Terrorism becomes
one of the hottest international threats that is discussed by almost every nation in the globe. A lot
of media such as internet, TV, and radio mostly make terrorism their headline news.This
happens because of the act of terrorism becomes more rapid nowadays from one country to
another country. We must be familiar with the term 9/11 in which four passenger airlines on
that day were hijacked by Al-Qaeda terrorists to be flown into buildings (WTC and the
Pentagon). According to Time magazine, about 2,996 lives of innocent people became victims
throughout that incident. Moreover, we have seen the brutal attack of terrorists which recently
killed more than hundreds of human in Paris. These terrorists claimed themselves to be members
of ISIS. Rapid savage attacks of the terrorist causing many summits are held by world
organization involving countries in order to solve this matter. One of them recently was held by
the Security Council of United Nation which involved 70 speakers from around the globe. The
discussion came up with some important points; one of them was to harness young people
immense potential to forge solutions.
As young generation, it is now our time to be on the front line and take the responsibility
from our predecessor in order to amplify the international communitys message of harmony. I
quote a message from Bob Geldof at the opening ceremony of the One Young World summit, he
says call them (young generation) Millennial. Call them generation Y. Call them whatever you
like, but please dont call them the future until they take responsibility for the present. Many
ways can be attempted by us as young generation to amplify the message of harmony.

Firstly, we have to educate ourselves. Education becomes the most important factor for
us. The report from a study by US-based security and intelligence consultant mentioned that the
average age of terrorist is between 18 and 29 years old. It indicates that many of young
generation have been recruited by terrorist organizations to run their plan. This happens because
young generation is lack of knowledge about the terrorist and terrorism. Education helps in the
development of young generation individual physically, mentally and socially. The importance of
education to young generation deals with the cultivation of the young generation of society into
mature individuals. Therefore, young generation with good education will be prevented from the
terrorist propaganda because they have already been prepared.
Secondly, we have the power of communication. Communication becomes the bridge of
nation in order to send the message of peace. Young generation has the power of communication
because we have the creativity and integrity. There are so many ways that young generation can
attempt in order to send the message to the world. We can hold a meeting or summit to share and
discussmany things, and one of them is the terrorism thread. For example, One Young World
Summit is a summitwhich gathersyoung leaders from around the world to develop solutions to
the worlds most pressing issues. Besides, media also can be used to communicate our message
to the world. Media has an imperative role in developing public opinion and at the same time
providing timely information and knowledge. As young generation that is familiar with and able
to use the media, we can share our ideas of peace through article, research, and designing an
advertisement and posting it on the internet. By doing these, we help communicate the peace to
the world and show our support for a fight against terrorism.
Thirdly, as young generation, we have to get involved in the anti-terrorism movement.
We should be aware of the terrorism act in our society. Many terrorists are trying to bond with
the society in order to run their plan.For example, many of the eye witnesses of the terrorism act
did not believe that their neighbor is a terrorist until they hear or see him on TV news. Thus, in
order to minimize this act, it is the job of young generation to make a seminary, meeting, or
event to wake the society up from their sleep, not to put the society in fear. We can start with
making an event (it can be sport event, meeting, etc) once in a week or probably once in a month,

so that the people in the society can sit together, interact each other well, rather than mind with
their own business.
In conclusion, terrorism is a serious crime which has a horrible impact on global society.
Many people were injured and even died due to terrorist attacks. Those who are not the victims
also feel pain and fear of the case.Terrorism is, therefore, something that needs to be stopped.
Children, adolescents, and adults play important role in counter terrorism. Providing ourselves
with extensive knowledge, making use of communication with others to foster harmony, and
participating in social activity are some of many ways to raise a sense of care and affection
among individuals. People who do care about human beings will absolutely stand up against any
kinds of crime, including terrorism.
