An official tournament list will be posted on Saturday, June 12th indicating all Rick Hansen Fishing Challenge
tournament participants.

2. Prizes will be presented in a number of categories. An allocation list will be posted with the final participant list.
In the event of a tie, the individuals tied will participate in a coin toss administered by the Tournament Master.
The participant whose catch has been registered first shall call the toss. The winner of the toss shall be granted
the higher standing.

There is an optional Cash Prize Pool that is part of the tournament. This Prize Pool is only open to
tournament participants and is governed by both the General Rules and ‘Tom Bird’ Tag & Release Rules. Entry in
the Cash Prize Pool is $600 per person, of which $200 per entry is donated to the Rick Hansen Foundation with
the balance making up the Prize Pool. The Prize Pool will be distributed as follows:

Second Largest Salmon 20%
Third Largest Salmon 10%
Team with Four Largest Fish 35%

3. The Rick Hansen Fishing Challenge hours are as follows:

Saturday, June 12th 1:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Sunday, June 13th 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Monday, June 14th 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM

4. A tag and release component of the Challenge will occur simultaneously on each tournament day. The rules for
the tag and release portion of the tournament form an integral part of the rules for the Rick Hansen Fishing
Challenge and begin on page two of this document. FOR THE PURPOSES OF OVERALL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION,
A TAGGED FISH SCORE WILL BE CONSIDERED EQUIVALENT TO A SCALE MEASURED WEIGHT. In addition,
tag and release only prizes will be awarded for (1) the largest tagged and released fish each day and (2) one
winner will be randomly selected from the participants that have registered a fish in the tag and release
component of the tournament. For the random draw, limit one entry per participant, regardless of the number of
fish tagged and released by each participant.

5. For the team component of the Challenge, a team is defined as no more than four anglers. Teams will be
determined by random draw. A team’s score for both the daily and overall team prizes will be the sum of the
four largest salmon caught by any of the team members.

6. Fish must be weighed in and/or scored on the day they are caught. Caught fish must be on the dock to be
weighed in by 7:30 PM on June 12th, 6:00 PM on June 13th and 6:00 PM by June 14th.

7. As this is a sport-fishing tournament, anglers may use only sport-fishing tackle and methods. No downriggers are
permitted.

8. Anglers must comply with all Department of Fisheries and Oceans regulations. Regular daily and possession
species limits apply. Upon reaching a daily or possession species limit, participants must refrain from fishing for
that species for the balance of the day/tournament and are also excluded from participating in the tag and release
component of the tournament for the balance of the day/tournament.

9. Participants are permitted to fish one rod each. A maximum of one additional rod, which is allocated to the
boat, is permitted, except under the circumstance indicated in point 10. For example, two participants in a boat
are permitted to fish a maximum of three rods [one for each participant (2) and one for the boat].

10. Participants in the presence of a guide are permitted to fish one rod each. No rods can be allocated to the boat.
For example, two participants in a boat with a guide are permitted to fish a maximum of two rods [one for each
participant (2)].

11. Guides are permitted to assist only with the baiting of a hook and the netting of a fish. Guides may not
participate in the hooking or playing of a fish. Participants with a disability or special need may receive further
assistance from a guide, provided special dispensation has been requested prior to the start of the tournament
and is approved by the Tournament Master.

12. A guide is defined as a paid Langara Fishing Lodge guide, a designated Rick Hansen Fishing Challenge guide
and/or any member of the Langara Fishing Lodge staff.

13. When a non-tournament participant is in a boat with a tournament participant, the tournament participant is
permitted to fish the number of rods as indicated in point 9 and 10. The rod(s) must be verbally designated as
being that/those of the tournament participant.

14. Fishing should take place within the boundaries as instructed by the Tournament Master and the Marine Safety
Officer (general Langara Island area extending east of Lighthouse, east of Chanal Reef and west of Seath Point),
unless otherwise indicated by the Tournament Master. Fish caught in an area defined as ‘Out of Bounds’ are not
eligible for the tournament.

15. All fish must be weighed at the Langara Fishing Lodge weigh station by a tournament official. Fish will be
weighed hanging by their tails on scales certified by the Department of Weights and Measures, Canada and will
be recorded in half pound increments, rounding down to the nearest half pound. Tagged and released fish will
be SCORED to two decimal places.

16. A signed form must accompany each fish that is weighed in.

17. No firearms are to be used while fishing.

18. In the event of weather and/or transportation delays, the Challenge will start (regardless) at 1:30 PM on Saturday,
June 12th.

19. The Tournament Master will arbitrate all protests related to breach of the rules. At the Tournament Masters sole
discretion, any fish and/or contestant may be disqualified.

20. Fish weights will be recorded as per the Tournament Master or designated official’s decision.

‘TOM BIRD’ TAG AND RELEASE RULES OF THE 2010 RICK HANSEN FISHING CHALLENGE

1. General Format
- Only Chinook Salmon will be considered for the tag and release portion of the tournament
- For the purposes of prize distribution, a SCORE will be equivalent to a scale measured weight.
- There will be a minimum of one Official boat in the designated fishing area.
- Upon hooking a fish, the contestant or guide must notify the Tournament Official’s boat by radio
communication.
- Upon netting a fish, the contestant will keep the fish in the water until the Tournament Official’s boat can
receive the fish in the net.
- The Tournament Official will give the contestant another net and the contestant may resume fishing.
- The Tournament Official will then measure, tag and release the fish.
- The score of an entered fish is determined by using the fish’s length and girth measurements and applying
the following formula:

Length of fish (inches) X Girth of Fish (inches squared) = SCORE

800

SCORE = weight of fish in pounds

2. The tag and release portion of the tournament will take place simultaneously on each tournament day:

Saturday, June 12th 1:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Sunday, June 12th 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Monday, June 29th 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM

The general location will be determined on the evening prior to each day by the Tournament Master, with
the exception of Saturday, June 12th – this location will be identified at the tournament briefing. The
location may also change throughout each day at the discretion of the Tournament Master. Notification of
tag and release location changes will be made by radio broadcast.

Although the Official boats cannot cover all fishing areas at all times, the Rick Hansen Fishing Challenge
would like to allow for a tagged and released fish to win a prize if possible. Therefore, in the special
circumstance where a fish is caught in a location outside of the designated tagging area(s), and it is deemed
by the angler or guide that the fish may be a tournament contender, a request may be made to have an
Official boat attend to SCORE the fish. The Tournament Master or designate will determine whether it is
viable to send an Officials boat to the location to receive the fish. However, because of logistical, weather,
fish survivability, safety and other concerns, it may be likely that Official boats will not be able to leave the
designated tagging area to score a fish.

To qualify, a fish must be hooked and the Official’s boat notified and have received an Official’s
acknowledgement prior to the official tag and release finishing time specified above. The fish must then be
netted and received by an Official’s boat no later than 15 minutes following the tag and release finishing
time (e.g. 7:45 PM on Saturday, June 12th).

3. It is the angler’s responsibility to keep in contact with the officials.

4. The angler or guide must notify an Official’s boat that a catch and release is imminent.

5. Order of notification will be noted by Officials and an attempt to sequence and score fish in notification
order will be carried out. The Official boat will return a signal to confirm notification.

6. Fish are scored by Officials in an Official’s boat and the time that the netted fish is received is noted.

7. Every fish will be measured, tagged and released by an Official’s boat.

8. Official score is determined by the Officials and the Tournament Master.

9. If a fish is tagged once, it cannot be scored again during the Challenge.

10. Fish score will be recorded as per the decision of the Tournament Master.

11. Once a fish is in the possession of the Officials boat, the fish is considered for the release portion of the
Challenge only. However, if in the discretion of the Officials, this fish is in a perilous situation (ie. excessive
bleeding, exhaustion, etc.) it may be rejected for the tag and release portion of the tournament and returned
to the participant. If this occurs, the Rick Hansen Fishing Challenge suggests that the fish be kept by the
participant, in which case the fish must be recorded on the anglers license and will contribute to their daily
limit.

12. At the Tournament Master’s discretion, any fish and/or contestant may be disqualified. Decisions of the
Tournament Master will be final.
