Dear all,

From April 15, Berlitz Japan will add a title to the popular Business plus series.
Please see the attachment to note the difference between the previous
material and the new.

As with all Business plus material, we will deliver this in a modular course flow:
10 chapters, 2 BVC 40-minute lessons each, for a total of 20 units.

Key information

Business plus E-mail is an update, rewrite and redesign of the E-mail Writing 1
textbook, which was originally released in 2005. Business plus E-mail follows
the same format and design as other Business plus textbooks:

10 chapters

2 lessons per chapter for a total of 20 lessons

For BE level 2-3 students

Business plus E-mail features extensive writing practice with a focus on

practical business language and on the spot correction. While this is a writing
course, the lessons still involve spoken communication. There are no listening
activities in this course.

E-mail Writing 1 vs. Business plus E-mail

Major differences between E-mail writing 1 and Business plus E-mail include:

An updated design and layout consistent with Business plus Meetings:

2nd edition

A rearranged table of contents with new chapters for following up and

writing effectively.

Two specific performance activities at the end of each unit instead of one
open assignment at the end of each chapter.

Please see the appendix for screenshots to show key differences.

Typical lesson flow

o A typical lesson cycle includes:

3-5 minutes: opening and goal setting

5-7 minutes: presentation and controlled practice with new language

10-12 minutes: less controlled practice with new language

15 minutes: original e-mail writing performance based on chosen writing task

or lesson goal

2 minutes: wrap up and goal confirmation

Compared to usual conversation lessons, Business plus E-mail lessons contain

more quiet time as the student writes, especially with groups. Discussing
language usage and formality and having students dictate their answers and emails after writing them can help increase student talk time.

The above paragraph is important. In BVC, some writing would still be expected
in the classroom, but there are also times much of that can be set as
homework.

Please enable and have students write in the NOTES pod. If you assign
homework, they can copy and paste their writing from WORD or WORD PAD
into the NOTES pod as well.

While normally dead air time is not ideal, there may be times in the lesson
when it is acceptable and expected, provided the student is typing or entering
material into the lesson.

Please familiarize yourself with the material. We will be setting up the template
and authorizing instructors soon, but you can actually preview the material by
accessing it in your practice room from the SHARED CONTENT.

Best regards,

Mark
