PART I
INTRODUCTION
Field trip to Adalar was supposed to the second field trip in Field Geology, however
because of the weather which was rainy in Istanbul at the time of the first field trip,
it was cancelled. As the result Field Trip in Adalar is the first Field trip and we were
doing both experiment in first field trip and the second second. It was held on March
28, 2015 with cloudy weather and takes place in Buyuk Ada. The Field Trip started
with measuring both strike/dip direction and plunge/trance, it took place near the
harbor of the ferry ship. The aims was to test the ability of the student, so that the
students would understand to measure both of it in the real outcrops of the rock.

1.1

Location and General Geographical Properties of the Area

Buyuk Ada means big island is one of the Princes Island. and it is the biggest island
in the Prince Island. It is a touristic place, which has 5.46 km2 wide areas. It can only
be accessed by the ship from Istanbul. It takes around 90 minutes to access from
Kabatas harbor in Istanbul. Princes Island consist of four larger islands, Bykada
with an area of 5.46 km2, Heybeliada with an area of 2.4 km2, Burgazada with an
area of 1.5 km2, Knalada with an area of 1.3 km2, and five much smaller ones, Sedef
Adaswith an area of 0.157 km2, Yassada with an area of 0.05 km2, Sivriada with
an area of 0.05 km2, Kak Adas with an area of 0.006 km2, andTavan Adas with
an area of 0.004 km2.

1.2

Aims

The aim of the study in this area is to provide students of field geology course a
better understanding of the topics that has been teach by the instructor in this course
and also to experience a geological technique that would be as a geologist in the
future. To provide this the instructor of field geology lesson and his assistance
helping the student to measure the outcrop by themselves .

1.3

Methodelogy

During this study, different rock types were identified by using geological mapping
techniques. The contact between different lithologies, structural, and stratigraphic
section are shown in the region.

PART II
STRATIGRAPHY
Sedimentary Rock is the only type of rocks that found in Buyuk Ada. The youngest
rock is sand stone which is can be found in the park in front of Asiklar Mesitu Yeri.
The rock is dark grey in color. The rock strata would be clearer in southwest
direction by following the road along the way. In the following rock which is around
650 m in to the southwest direction sandsone become clearer. We can even started
to analysis the sandstone which is quartz arenite sandstone.
Dark grey sandstone as the first
outcrop found in Buyuk Ada. Later
on this outcrop can be seen clearly
in 650 m in southwest direction,
which later can be classify as quartz
arenite sandstone.

The sandstone strata can be found along the way in southwest direction. In order to
find other types of outcrops, we need to go to the beach, which is siltstone is under
sandstone, followed by limestone. Also volcanic tuff can found in between
limestone.

PART III
STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY
Buyuk Ada has two unconformity which can be found around 2 km walking in
southwest direction. In the beach folds can also be seen more clearly. The type of
fold is syncline resulting the stress was in compaction between the strta.

PART IV
CONCLUSION
Sedimentary rock is the only type of rock that can be found in Buyuk Ada, quartz
arenite sandstone is the youngest rock as it is on the top of the strata followed by
siltstone, limestone, and volcanic tuff. 2 unconformity can also be found along the
way in southwest direction and in between limestone near the beach.
