Introduction
Test management is performed on the specified objects in the element system to ensure normal and stable system operations.
1. In daily maintenance
Users can test physical devices and communication links by
setting test tasks.
If test results are close to abnormal values, maintenance personnel should pay attention to them, and eliminate possible
problems to avoid failure.
2. When a failure occurs
Set instant test tasks to help maintenance personnel to find
out the failure cause. Locate and eliminate the failure as soon
as possible.
3. After failure is eliminated
The maintenance personnel can also use the testing tool to determine if the device has been recovered to normal operations
and if the entire system operates normally.
To enter Test Management interface:
1. Start NetNumen NM software.
2. On topology management interface, select the subnetwork
where the NE to manage locates, right-click and choose NE
Agent > Start NE Agent.
3. On the topology management interface, select the subnetwork
where the NE to manage locates, right-click and choose NE
Management > Start NE Management
4. On topology management interface, select the subnetwork

Test Principle
The test principle is as shown in Figure 2.
FIGURE 2 PRINCIPLE
OF
TEST MANAGEMENT
NM
Users can create test management tasks on NM. The system
forms test management commands according to the set task
parameters.
When the execution time of a task arrives, the system sends
the formed test command to a NE.

Chapter 1 Overview
Test Mode
Test management falls into two types: Instant test and test task.
1. Instant test
Instant test allows user to test desired test objects immediately
after selecting the objects and test items. The user can observe
test results immediately.
2. Test task
Test task allows user to select desired test objects, items, and
preset test time. On the arrival of test time, the test system
sends a test command from EMS to element, where the preset
test objects and items are tested. The test system saves the
test results on the network management server automatically
for future query. This method is suitable for the case where
no maintenance personnel is present or at night when traffic
volume is low.
The system saves test results automatically for both instant and
test tasks. Query test results as required at any time.
In daily maintenance, users can test physical devices and communication links via route tests. If the test result is very close to the
abnormal condition, pay attention to the condition and try to find
possible problems before failure occurs. Actions should be taken
as required to avoid failure.
If failure occurs in the system, an instant test can help the users
to find, locate and eliminate the failure as soon as possible.
After the failure is eliminated, users can also use the test management to determine if the device has been recovered to normal
operations and if the entire system operates normally.
Test Contents
On the test objects, the test management falls into the following
types:
1. Board test
Includes testing whether the boards is properly in the slot, testing the board startup time, querying Ethernet link status of
boards, board HW link, RS-485 link, chip function, port condition and the status of the active/standby boards.
2. Control stream test
Link tests between ROMB and peripheral boards. Link test between two peripheral boards and the communication link test
between the active and standby boards.

Entering Interface
Short Description
Prerequisites
Steps
Instant test is a test task that a user can initiate at any time.
During the test, the users can test any object on the left tree. The
test object must be locked to a specific board name in NE.
After the test completes, the system immediately returns the test
results to the users. The users can query the test results according
to the query condition.
3. Device Test dialog box pops up. Set Test Device and Test
Type, as shown in Figure 5.
Note:
Different test objects require different parameters.
4. Click OK. The system automatically executes the instant test
task and returns the test result.

Overview
Test tasks are testing tasks automatically executed periodically according to the user-specified test items and cycles. Such tests are
designed for daily maintenance to reduce the workload of the operator without the need to test items one by one.
Test task does not display the result immediately. Test results
are saved in the database. Query desired results via query as
required.
Note:
It is strongly suggested that users had better not to set the execution time of test tasks in the traffic peak period to avoid high
load of the element upon task execution. The high load decreases
the system reliability and the likelihood of service success.
Prerequisites
57
Note:
While creating a test task, specify the initial status of the task.
Only routine tasks in the Active status are valid and can be executed according to the set cycle and test items. Tasks in the
Inactive status are invalid.
