Chapter 1
Introduction
Organic foods are foods that are producedusing methods
that do not involue modern synthetic inputs such as synthetic
pesticides and chemical fertilizer. Organic foods are also not
processed using irradiation, industrial solvents or chemical for
additives.
The weight of the available scientific avidence has not shown
a consistent and significant difference between organic and more
conventionally grown foods interms of safety nutritional value or
taste.
Organic meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products come from
animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones. Organic
food is produced without using most conventional pesticides,
fertilizers made withsyntetic ingredients or swage sludge,
bioengineering or ionizing radiation.

ORGANIC FOOD
Organic food is really beneficial, especially for its consumers.
This is true for several reason.
The nutritional value of food is largely of its vitamin and
mineral content. In this regard, organically grown food is
dramatically superior in mineral content to that grown by modern
conventional methods. Healthy plants mean healthy people, and
better nourished plants provide better nourishment to prople and
animals a like.

A major benefict to consumers of organic food is that it is

free of contamination with healt harming chemicals such as
pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides. As you would expect of
populationfed on chemically grown foods, there has been a
provound upward ternd in the incidence of diseases
associatedwith exposure to toxic chemicals in industrialized
societies.
It comes no surprise, therefore, that organically grown food
tastes better than that conventionally grown. The tastiness of fruit
and vegetables is directly related to its sugar content , which in
turn is a function of the quality of nutrition that the plant it self
has enjoyed.
Organically grown plants are nourished naturally, rendering
the structural and metabolic integrity of their cellular structure
superior to those conventionally grown. As a result organically
grown foods can be stored longer and do not show the latters
susceptibility torapid mold an rotting.
Consideringthe adventages mentioned, it is true that organic
food is relly beneficial.
