Abortion can be defined as the ending of pregnancy by the removal of
a fetus or embryo from the uterus prior to viability. According to Wikipedia, An abortion
can occur spontaneously, in which case it is usually called a miscarriage, or it can be
purposely induced. The term abortion most commonly refers to the induced abortion of
a human pregnancy. Abortion is legal in some states but, should be illegal throughout
the entire country because of how physically and mentally dangerous it is to people.
Advocates of legalized abortion downplay or deny the health risks associated
with abortion. However, the research indicates that abortion isolates women and can
often cause physical and psychological suffering. Abortion increases the risk that
women will develop breast cancer. Medical organizations, including the Breast Cancer
Prevention Institute, the Catholic Medical Association, and the National Physicians
Center for Family Resources, have recognized the connection between abortion and
breast cancer by stating that, In early pregnancy, levels of estrogen increase, leading to
breast growth in preparation for breastfeeding. When a pregnancy is interrupted by
abortion, immature cells are left in the woman's breasts, increasing the potential risk of
breast cancer. Long-term physical consequences of abortion include future preterm
birth and placenta previa (improper implantation of the placenta) in future pregnancies.
Pregnancies complicated by placenta previa result in high rates of preterm birth, low
birth weight, and maternal morbidity. This is a leading factor in determining the safety of
an abortion.

Abortions also cause psychological damage to both men and women. A peerreviewed study published by the Southern Medical Journal of more than 173,000
American women found that women who aborted were 154% more likely to commit
suicide than women who carried to term. The Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology
studied men whose partners had abortions and found that 51.6% of the men reported
regret, 45.2% felt sadness, and 25.8% experienced depression.
Abortions not only affect people as individuals, but also society as a whole and
can be very argumentative when debated. Most pro-choice people argue that
personhood begins at birth, not at conception. Abortion is the termination of a
pregnancy, not a baby. Personhood at conception is not a proven biological fact. While
some of it may make sense, it seems more correct to agree with pro-life people when
they say, unborn babies are human beings from the moment of conception because
even though it hasnt fully developed, it is still a human being that has a potential
future. They have a fundamental right to life, which must be protected.
Pro-choice people state that the anti-abortion position is usually based on
religious beliefs and threatens the vital separation of church and state. They believe that
religious ideology should not be a foundation for law in the United States. There is a lot
of religious support for anti-abortion, but there is still non-religious reason for supporting
pro-life choices such as the danger involved, and how it will affect society. Finally they
make reasons for abortion include that many women who choose abortion don't have
the financial resources to support a child, but a rebuttal for that argument includes
adoption. Abortions reduce the number of adoptable babies. The percentage of infants

given up for adoption has declined from 9% of those born before 1973 to 1% of those
born between 1996 and 2002. Instead of having the option to abort, women should give
their unwanted babies to people who cannot conceive, ultimately leading to the illegality
of abortion.
In conclusion, being pro-life is a far superior option when compared to pro-choice
because of how negative the effects of pro-choice consequences are. Abortion has such
a negative effect on women and on society. When compared side to side, pro-life
arguments seem to overpower pro-choice because they incorporate ideas from both a
religious and a non religious standpoint. While pro-choice Abortion eliminates the
potential societal contributions of a future human being. The United States would be an
entirely different country if the mothers of our nations heroes, great presidents,
scientists, athletes, and others had chosen abortion.
