Hunting is an activity that has been done since the old days. Back then hunting is just for
fulfilment of our daily needs, like for trading or consumption. Now however, hunting is often done
by many people, for varied reasons, such as for hobby, for exploitation of the hunted animal parts.
In this particular way the hunter is able to earn lots of money.
These days we often see in some social media about the hunting illegal wild animals. As a
country that is large and still in development, Indonesia has a fairly large forest area, with a very
diverse and unique wildlife as well, such as the komodo dragon or orangutans. These kind of
animals are only found in Indonesia, therefore other countries highly value endangered wildlife in
Indonesia. Yet the attention to these animals from our own country are even less than those
foreigners, proving that we still lack the motivation to tend to our own.
Before we go any further, we need to know what it is illegal hunting. Illegal hunting is a
collection of certain wild plants and animals, usually an endangered organism or a rare specimen. It
is against to the laws of conservation and wildlife management. Its also violate the laws and
regulations of hunting. Institutions "Protection of Forest and Fauna" (IRONIC) stated that the
number of illegal hunting and wildlife trade in Indonesia is still high, reaching 22 cases from
January to June 2014. "A total of 22 cases were successfully resolved by law enforcement officers,
but that is how far we manage to unravel. Of the 22 cases of trafficking and poaching of wildlife,
thousands protected animals are seized," said Director of ironic Indonesia Rosek Nursahid in
ANTARA.
Many kinds of wild animals are being traded illegally, among them are orangutans, lemurs,
gibbon, green turtle, bird of paradise, cockatoos, tigers and elephants. Rare animals that have been
protected it, he said, were seized from the hands of animal traders, hunters and smugglers animals
from various places, such as Jakarta, Tangerang, Denpasar and Aceh. He argues that the trade of
protected species is not only for domestic consumption, but also to be smuggled out of the country,
like France and China.
Hunting can be called Illegal if it is not done during the hunting season. Hunting season is
a time set by the minister designated to organized hunting activities. This activity reduce the
populations of animals that will damage the environment such as wild boars and monkeys. This
activity is also considered as a hobby. However, a lot of people hunt outside the hunting season.
Thus, many of them do not know if the animals they hunt is protected and endangered. Other reason
Hunters do not have a valid hunting license. Hunting license is a letter issued by the minister or a
chosen representative. Hunting license grants hunting rights to the person whose name is written in
the license. If the hunters exploit the animals for their own profit unofficially or without permission
from the government, it counts as illegal. Hunting results are sold to parties who are outside of the
government reach. Other illegal activities related to hunting are using banned weapons and hunting
protected animals for unauthorized research.
Hunting freely without any considerations have a negative impact to the endangered
species and to nature and its environment. Some negative effects are in the following paragraph.
Illegal hunting causes the loss of protected species. Many species are extinct because of
poaching. Poaching is another term used for illegal activity related to exploitation of wild life. An
example of poaching results are the dodo birds, which are extinct in the early 1880s. Illegal hunting
could disturbed the natural balance of an environment. Extinction of one species can lead to the
ruination of an ecosystem. Food chain will be cut when one of the members of the food chain is
missing. Illegal hunting also spreads zoonotic diseases. With the rampant poaching of wild animals,
the disease will have a chance to transfer itself to the human body. Zoonotic diseases are infections

that are transmitted between vertebrate animals and humans. Zoonotic diseases have recently
become a concern in the world. Zoonotic disease research indicate that it can be transmitted through
food, air, and direct contact. Therefore, the impact of meat hunting has the chance of spreading the
disease. As in some cases in the world, it has occurred. An example of it are the outbreak of Ebola
virus in the Congo Basin and in Gabon in the 1990s, the SARS outbreak in Hong Kong, and some
other events in several regions around the world.
Other effect is the reduction of the wild forest or protected forest area. The effect of the
reduced species will directly reduce the quality of forest ecosystems in the wild or in a protected
forest. As more and more people who hunts in particular forest, more space is needed for the
transportation for the hunters. At a certain period, the area of transportation will accumulate quite
large, where a wider range of poaching take place. In our country Indonesia, this has occurred in
many wild forests and protected forests. In fact, this has never been taken seriously by forest
ministry. The sooner this is resolved, the more environmental forest in our country will be saved.
Reduced employment is an indirect effects due to poaching. The impact that this one is
quite unique. We know this now because tourist area which is built in an area that was once a wild
forest or protected forest, calls for new land acquisition. The new environment is managed with
better and more modern technology that will increase employment opportunities. However reality
different than the theory, as job opportunities will eventually lessen from time to time. Although its
not directly involved with animals, some action is related to the hunting of animals and destruction
of wild life ecosystems.
Above are some facts about the after effects of illegal activities that relates to hunting
endangered and protected wild life. Society these days also understood less about the danger and the
loss we suffer from this horrible action.
In conclusion we can say that we need to protect wildlife and its habitat, after all, we
humans need nature and its environments as much as the animas needs it.
If you brutally kill or torture an animal, You become worst then trash itself
