Device Introduction

OceanStor VIS6600T virtual intelligent storage system (hereinafter referred to as the VIS6600T)
applies dual-node redundant configurations. A single VIS6600T has two nodes. A VIS6600T
cluster supports up to eight nodes. The VIS6600T cluster with more than two nodes has better
performance.
The VIS6600T is an open and flexible virtual storage product that targets mid-range and highend customers (such as government data centers, financial institutions, carriers, and big
enterprises and institutions). It can implement storage consolidation in a heterogeneous
environment and provide data protection and local (remote) data disaster recovery. The
VIS6600T consists of modular components such as the system enclosure, controllers, fan
modules, power modules, and interface modules.

materials, see the Packing List.

Installing Devices

Storage System Placement Principles

Before the planning, you need to calculate the required cabinet space, as listed in the following table.

(1+1)U
*Cable rack: 1U

Remarks: The total of the required cabinet space can be calculated through the following formula:
4U * (number of VIS6600T) + 2U*2.
Based on the calculated cabinet space, you can plan the installation positions of the data coffer and service
controller enclosures for the convenience of the installation and expansion.

Removing Filler Panels

If the planned device installation positions are occupied by

filler panels, remove them in the method shown in Figure 1.
After removing the filler panels, remove floating nuts in the
method shown in Figure 2.
1

If you do not have a floating nut mount bar, you can use a flat-head
screwdriver instead. When using a flat-head screwdriver to install
the floating nuts, handle it gently; otherwise, the flat-head
screwdriver may skid, and thus injure the hands or storage devices.

Installing Floating Nuts

If you do not have a floating nut mount bar, you can use a flat-head screwdriver instead. When using a
flat-head screwdriver to install the floating nuts, handle it gently; otherwise, the flat-head screwdriver
may skid, and thus injure the hands or storage devices.

Installing Adjustable Guide Rails

The length of the adjustable guide rail ranges from 600 mm (23.64 inches) to 900 mm (35.46 inches),
and it can be installed in the cabinet with a depth from 800 mm (31.50 inches) to 1100 mm (43.34
inches).
The adjustable guide rails are initially equipped with positioning pins applicable to square installation
holes only. For round installation holes, replace the positioning pins.
After the left adjustable guide rail is installed, install the right adjustable guide rail in the same method.

Connecting Heartbeat Cables

The preceding figure shows the heartbeat network for a eight nodes cluster of VIS6600T. You can adjust
the number of used VIS6600T based on the actual application scenario.
On the VIS6600T heartbeat network, the heartbeat network ports of a cluster with more than two nodes
use GE switch cards (switching network) for connections.
Two GE switch cards must be installed in slot A3 and A4 on controller A of a VIS6600T and slot B3 and
B4 on controller B of another VIS6600T.

Powering On

Check the status indicators of the VIS6600T virtual intelligent storage system about ten minutes after
the devices are powered on.
If a certain status indicator runs abnormally, check that the devices are correctly cabled. The faults
and alarms that occur during power-on can be solved later when the Integrated Storage Manager
(ISM) is installed and available to troubleshoot the system.
When the storage system is powered on, the colors of the indicators vary with the port speeds. For
details, please see the OceanStor VIS6600T Virtual Intelligent Storage System Installation Guide.
