Abstract
Background
Provision of optimal nutrition in children in critical care is often challenging. Critically ill
patients are typically unable to maintain adequate nutritional intake to meet their
metabolic demands. Additionally, patients admitted to a pediatric intensive care unit
(PICU) often have preexisting nutritional deficits.
Objective
To determine calories achievement as risk factor of mortality in PICU patient
Methods
The study was a case control with consecutive sampling in PICU patient at RSUP dr.
Kariadi Semarang who fulfilled inclusion criteria. Calories and protein achievement was
determined at day 5 of admission. Calories intake was calculated using Schofield method.
Statistical analysis used was chi square and Mantel-Haenzel test to calculate the odds
ratio (OR).
