Operation system & operational planning


Operation system is system software that manages computer hardware and software resources
and provides common services for computer programs. All computer programs,
excluding firmware, require an operating system to function. In this case, Mrs. Jamilah called
the system as Zero Problem Stocks System (ZePSS).
Operational planning is the process of planning strategic goals and objectives to tactical goals
and objectives. In this case, Encik Ehsan Ali has to get through the entire corporate strategic IT
plan to tailor-up with the vision and mission of the company.
v. Nature of the information system problem
Problem happens on management information system. The company should adopt enterprise
computing. It is an information system that support company-wide operations and data
management requirements such as Wal-Marts inventory control system.

6. What Ehsan should do next to complete the project initiation?


He should determine whether the data and analysis that has been gathered
are compatible with the company. Then, he need to do a report based on
those data including the evaluation of the systems request, an estimate of
costs and benefits, and a case for action, which is a summary of the project
request and a specific recommendation.
The format of the report should start with:
1) Introduction - shows the overview of the reports containing a
brief description of the system, name of the person or group who
performed the investigation and the name of person or group who
initiated the investigation.
2) System Request Summary describes the basis of the system
request.
3) Findings contains the result of preliminary investigation,
including a description of the projects scope, constraints and feasibility.
4) Case for action summary of the project request and a specific
recommendation. Management will make the final decision but the IT
departments input is an important factor to the decision making.
5) Project roles lists the people who participate in the project and
describe each persons role.

6) Time and cost estimates describe the cost of acquiring and


installing the system, and the total cost of ownership during the systems
useful life.
7) Expected benefits includes anticipated tangible and intangible
benefits and a timetable that shows when they are to occur.
8) Appendix includes the supporting attachment related to the
investigation such as the list of interviews, the reviewed documentation
and other source of information.
Then , he should make a presentation of the report to the management.

7. Describe the role of systems analyst in information systems


development.
1) Focuses in information system issues surrounding the system by
identifying how information technology can improve business processes.
2) Design the information system and the business processes.
3) Ensure the system is compliance with standards.
4) Responsible for planning, undertaking and coordinating the
overall development activities.
5) Help translate business requirements into IT projects.
