Course Description: This course continues the development
of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English.
You will communicate ideas and information orally with
increased confidence, demonstrating your understanding of
the English language. Students will read and write across a
variety of genres, applying knowledge of language to derive
meaning from text, and express your self appropriately for
different audiences and purposes.
Instructional Methods and Types of Assignments:

Students will engage in intellectual dialogue, reflection, formal and informal


writing
Emphasis is placed upon the speaking and written process for effective
communication
Individual, large-, and small-group activities, student and teacher
presentations and teacher lecture will occur regularly.
Note-taking will be conducted in class using interactive notebooks
Discussion and writing assignments will be connected with real world
applications

Respect your teacher at all times!
Be on time and ready to learn.
Respect other peoples property. Do not take anything that does not
belong to you.
5. Respect other peoples right to learn. You are here to learn, so is
everyone else.
6. Use appropriate language and discuss appropriate topics at all times.

7. Raise your hand if you would like to speak, and use the appropriate
hand when necessary.
8. Leaving the room cannot occur during the first 10 and last 10 minutes.
9. Absolutely no electronic devices of your own shall be in the classroom.
(NO CELL PHONES, NO HEADPHONES!!!!!) IT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
10.If you feel the need to open a window, DO NOT open it yourself, Ask
first and I will try my best to accommodate you.
11.ABSOLUTELY NO CHEATING WILL BE TOLERATED, A ZERO WILL BE
GIVEN.
12.If you are absent YOU are responsible for making up any work, no
excuses.

Marble notebook
1 inch binder
One pack of dividers for your binder
Grading: You will be graded as such:
Participation..10%
Benchmark Exam..30%
Tests/Quizzes.30%
Homework/Classwork...30%
Total..100%
Participation including, but not limited to:
- coming to class on time
- coming to class prepared
- being a positive peer
- doing what is expected of you in class
Benchmark Exam This will be given once per marking period, every
marking period. The exam is cumulative (everything weve learned up
to that point all year). THIS IS HUGE!!
Tests/Quizzes: Tests will take place at the end of each chapter.
Quizzes will happen routinely.

Due in class or considered late.


50% Credit for late HW.
After 1 week late the assignment is a permanent zero.
You will be assigned no more than 3 assignments per week that
will take no more than 20 minutes each to complete. (This does
not include studying!)
