MEMORANDUM
TO:

GREITENS FOR MISSOURI

FROM:

DAVE SACKETT

RE:

KEY FINDINGS FROM A STATEWIDE SURVEY OF VOTER ATTITUDES

IN MISSOURI

DATE:

SEPTEMBER

23, 2016
________________________________________________________________________
The Tarrance Group is pleased to present the Greitens for Missouri Committee with the key
findings from a survey of voter attitudes in Missouri. These key findings are based on telephone
interviews with N=606 registered voters throughout the state, with 40% of the interviews being
conducted with respondents on their cell phones. Responses to this survey were gathered
September 19-22, 2016 and the margin of error associated with a sample of this type is + 4.1%
in 95 out of 100 cases.
KEY FINDINGS
The top of ticket provides a strong environment for the Greitens campaign, with Trump
holding a +8 point lead on the Presidential ballot test. Forty-six percent (46%) indicate they
would vote for Trump, while 38% would vote for Clinton. There are 8% voting for Johnson,
1% voting for Stein, and only 7% are undecided.
The gubernatorial ballot is a statistical dead heat, with forty-two percent (42%) indicating
they would vote for Greitens and forty-five percent (45%) indicating they would vote for
Koster. There are five percent (5%) of Missouri voters that would vote for one of the three
minor party candidates, and 8% of Missouri voters are undecided.
Perhaps most important, Greitens has caught up to Koster in terms of name ID despite Koster
having the advantage of serving in office and several previous statewide campaigns. Both
candidates are now equal in terms of name ID at approximately eighty-seven percent (87%.)

The Greitens campaign has done a very successful job of rebutting the attacks from Koster
and the Democrats on The Mission Continues salary issue. Fully forty-seven percent
(47%) of Missouri voters believe the Greitens statement on this issue, and only twenty-three
percent (23%) believe that the attack is true and accurate.
