Experience
I, student of Bachelors in Economics from Fatima Jinnah Women
University. I worked at PIMS Hospital for the community work form 18 july
till 21july2016. And this was a very good experience.
I am very thankful to Dr. Ayaz ud din for providing us this opportunity
and so the house job doctors and the PGs too for helping me

understanding all these medical terms and helping the patients and
counseling them too.
Whatever I did and learnt is been written in detail day wise as follows

DAY#1:
I reached PIMS at 9 o'clock in the morning. As it was my first day so it was
basically the introductory day as Dr.Ayaz assisted me and introduced me
to different doctors and showed me different wards and department of the
hospital. Dr Ayaz guided me what to do and how to work. After that I was
been assigned the work and the wards to visit and work at . So the first
ward which I had to visit was the gynae ward .Then I took a round at
Gynaes ward. I met the patients checked their medical history and then
discussed their illness. Then according to that I guided them and gave
them good advises for future.
Dr. Shahida also gave me some tips about how to communicate with the
patients. She told me to try to communicate in the patients language,
respect them, and try to be calm and cool, talk to them confidently. So
again I interacted with the patients, counseled them. So after all that I
finished up with my first day at 2 oclock.
DAY # 2
I reached the hospital at 9 o'clock in the morning I was waiting for Dr Ayaz
he reached by 9;30.After knowing my 1st day work he showed me how to
write the:

Medical History of the patient.

Discharge tips.
Treatment sheets.
Pulse sheets, ECG, CXR and Fitness test.
Some information about the OPD and OT.
How to check the blood pressure.

Then after that I was been instructed by the doctor to check the BP of
some patients.
Then I did the counseling of Patient#31and after that I gave some healthy
tips to the Diabetic patients of that ward. These tips were related to
hygiene as follows:

Walk as more as you can

To use less sugar

Wash hands before eating every meal

To eat more fruits and vegetables and avoid the food having access
carbohydrates
Eat clean and healthy food
Take bath daily
Drink boiled water and if not available in hospital then could use
filtered or Nestle water
Avoid eating food containing more salt
After that I get my work checked by Dr.Ayaz and then just signed out
at 2 oclock with his permission. And this was all about day 2.

DAY #3
I reached hospital at sharp 9:00,Dr Ayaz who was a plastic and
reconstructive surgeon he told my about Plastic surgery that is a surgical
specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the
human body. It includes cosmetic or aesthetic surgery, reconstructive
surgery, craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the
treatment of burns. After that he took me to a round in that particular
ward and showed some patients and their history. I helped him to open
their medical case files and along with that he discussed their injuries with
me and also explained the reasons behind that .Some patients were in a
great pain I talked to them give them sympathy , affection and prayers. I
felt so bad for the patients in a great pain and knowing the reason for
their sugery made me sad.
Information about drips was also been given to me so that I could have an
idea that which patient requires what king of drip:

Drips that contain only simple water without salt and sugar are
called Normal Ciline.
Some drips contain salt and these are for the patients who have
problem of low Blood Pressure.
Some drips contain sugar and it is for the patients who have low
level of sugar in their blood.

so the whole day was spent in that and the day 3 of my work comes to an
end and by Dr.Ayaz permission I left for my home.
DAY# 4
At 8 in the morning I reached marked attendance and Dr.Ayaz had to do a
surgery of a patient so I helped him in providing the things he want and
left for OT (operation theater)

While leaving he told my task and I started working on them with the
supervisors doing house job. I was been instructed by the doctor to check
the BP of some patients so I went and checked the BP of almost 20
patients. I took some patients with their medical files to OPD for
Ultrasound. Then I went to the office where the X-Ray reports had to
come. I went their showed the patient slip and got those reports After that
I checked the GA Fitness report with Dr. Shabana. It is to check the
patients before the surgery that whether they are fit for Anesthesia or not.
Then while passing I saw some cute children suffering from different
diseasesso I spend some time with them buy them juices and biscuits and
at the end of my last day I decided to give 1bottle blood so for that I went
to the blood bank.
After that I met all my senior doctors say them goodbye and thanked all of
them for their involvement along with me in that community work which I
did in these four days.
