Western Feedlots Ltd. announced

last week that it voluntarily decided to
suspend cattle feeding and ownership
operations at its operating sites near
Strathmore, High River and Mossleigh.
The company, which started in 1958,
will feed and market existing cattle
and once that is complete, operations
will be terminated.
The company will cease hiring new
employees and purchasing feed grain
or feeder cattle after that time. However, the company will continue farming
operations for the foreseeable future.
Western Feedlot shareholders chose
to terminate operations due to strong
headwinds and the current high risk/
low return environment in cattle ownership. In addition, the company stated
the poor political and economic environment in Alberta also contributed
to the decision.
President and CEO Dave Plett said in
an interview with the Calgary Herald
that the majority of Westerns approximately 85 employees will eventually be
laid off, and the company has teams
working now to assist them with transition. He said all of Westerns equipment will be shuttered, stored and
maintained in functional condition.
Should circumstances change going
forward, there may be opportunities to
do something to activate it but thats
not the case at this time, Plett said.
The companys press release stated:
Western would like to thank all our
employees, suppliers and customers
for their years of dedication and support and their continued understanding and cooperation.
Alberta Agriculture and Forestry
Minister Oneil Carlier said the loss of
jobs is really unfortunate.
In a public statement issued on
Sept. 21, Carlier said his government
is aware producers are hurting from
the significant decrease in the price of
cattle. We do support the cattle industry and were doing our best to keep
them strong.

Farm tours offer teachers learning opportunity

MELISSA STRLE
Times Reporter

Agriculture for Life hosted a farm tour
on Sept. 21 that enabled teachers from
Strathmore, Calgary and surrounding
area to see up close a local grain farm,
a cattle feedlot and mill, and a ranch
focused on producing grass-fed beef.
The tour transported teachers to visit
producers directly involved in the farming industry including Cattleland Feedyards, GrowSafe Systems and Southern
Cross Livestock.
The purpose of the tour was to give
teachers the opportunity to gain a better understanding of technology and
management practices utilized by farmers and ranchers to produce food that
feeds Albertans and the world.
Kaley Segboer, marketing and communications coordinator at Agriculture
for Life, said the tour also provided
educators from Alberta Beef Producers
and Alberta Chicken Producers.
We have Graeme Finn with Southern
Cross Livestock whos helped us pull
together the day so hes the tour guide
providing input, she said. We have a
crop advisor on the bus as well, helping to tie together some of the things
we are talking about like genetically

modified crops, pesticide usage, even

just basics of harvest right now.
The teacher group was able to get a
firsthand account of farms while viewing crops along roadways and stopping
to compare barley versus wheat.
The first stop was at GrowSafe, where
teachers learned about conventional
grains and oilseeds. Next, Mick Taylor
at Cattleland talked about the differences between natural and conventional
beef, the reasons why and some of the
costs involved. Lastly, teachers learned
pasture and the grass side of beef operations at Southern Cross Livestock.
Segboer said it is important to educate teachers and provide them with
tools enabling them to teach agriculture and farming to their own students
within the classroom.
Agriculture is intersecting so many
ways throughout the Alberta curriculum, Segboer said. This is allowing
them [teachers] firsthand knowledge
plus were providing them with lesson
plans.
Many conversations during the day
revolved around organic versus conventional farming.
The Strathmore Times visited Cattleland Feedyards which is run by the
Gregory family and employs approxi-

mately 45 people. Cattleland farms

about 15,000 acres of land in the local
area and produces a significant amount
of feed for its own cattle. It is a 25,000
head commercial feedlot and also has
its own cow herd of about 700-800
cows.
The facility contains one of the largest commercial research facilities in
Canada and performs many regulatory
studies for new products coming into
Canada, new implants and new feed
additives.
According to Mick Taylor, Cattlelands
research co-manager and cow herd
manager, people have lost touch with
where our food comes from and I think
thats where a lot of the issues come
from with animal welfare now. Our
massive push in the feedlot now is in
animal welfare. Consumers are more
conscious of whats happening to the
animals, the meats theyre eating.
Taylor also said another big consumer-driven push has been for meat that
has no hormones. Weve gone from
zero per cent (natural) five years ago to
30 per cent (natural) now.
Agriculture for Life will be offering
another tour this spring in the Edmonton region and will offer subsequent
tours if demand remains.

This Western Feedlots facility located near Mossleigh, Alta. will close operations after the company announced last week that it is suspending all operations in its three locations near High River, Strathmore
and Mossleigh. Western Feedlots is one of the biggest feedlot yards in Canada and the company had
a one time capacity of 100,000 head of cattle between all three locations.

Melissa Strle Photos

Locals affected by
Western Feedlots closure
Continued from Page 1

The minister explained the government agreed with the Feeder Association of Albertas request to increase the
loan guarantee from $55 million to
$100 million.
The cattle and livestock industries
are key drivers in Albertas rural economy, and feeder associations are vital to
the success of the industry, said Carlier.
This is the result of the productive discussions we have had with the industry.
Anne Wasko, market analyst at Gateway Livestock, said consolidation in
the feedlot sector in Alberta was not a
big surprise since cattle numbers have
declined considerably over the last decade, contributing to more pen space
than cattle.
But at this kind of a level when
youve got one of the largest in the
country closing I think it caught everybody a bit by surprise, she said, adding that the industry has been going
through some difficult times.
Losses have gone on now for 14
consecutive months and the average
[price] is only $300 per head so this
one [industry low] has been deep and
it doesnt look like anything that is in
feedlots between now and the end of
the year is going to make any money
either.
According to a September 2016 report
by Canfax, a division of the Canadian
Cattlemens Association, cattle prices
are currently in the downturn of the
cycle with prices
moving back in
line with the longterm trend. If the
market follows the
patterns seen in

previous cycles, prices may drop below

the long-term trend moving forward
and bottom in two-four years.
Alberta Cattle Feeders Association
chief executive officer Bryan Walton
said markets are tough right now and
are just as bad as they were after mad
cow disease erupted here in 2003.
According to Walton, 2014 and 2015
were pretty good years, but things have
changed in a hurry and it has happened
hard and fast. Right now the markets
are really causing some grief, he said.
Last year a steer would sell for $3,000
and today its around $2,000. [Thats a]
30 per cent decline in the price of market-fed animals.
According to Alberta Cattle Feeders
Association, Albertas progressive feedlot sector contains 151 feedlots of 1,000
head or more. In addition, Alberta is
home to 4.9 million beef cattle with a
1.8 million head annual output. Alberta
provides 69 per cent of Canadas fed
cattle production.
Wasko ranks Western Feedlots as
one of the largest feedlots in
Canada, having a
one-time capacity
of 100,000 head
between its three
physical locations.

Second reading
for new taxi bylaw
MELISSA STRLE
Times Reporter

Strathmore Town council approved first and
second reading of a new taxi bylaw at the Sept. 21
council meeting.
The bylaw addresses some of the issues not resolved under the last proposed and defeated taxi
bylaw. The new bylaw also stipulates a grace period to Jan. 31, 2017, to allow brokers to make
required changes that comply with conditions set
forth.
Specifically, the new bylaw defines whom it applies to and exempts non-profit organizations such
as the KARE Volunteer Driver Program. Namely,
the new bylaw will apply to for hire companies,
or taxi and limousine businesses only.
Martin DePeuter, owner of Strathmore Taxi,
Economy Taxi Strathmore and Economy Taxi
Chestermere, has been a vocal opponent of the
KARE Volunteer Driver Program.
During the council meeting, DePeuter said he is
very concerned about the proposed taxi bylaw. He
also stated his concerns regarding the KARE Volunteer Driver Program and questioned whether or
not the program has proper requirements in place
to protect passengers and the general public.
In particular, DePeuter wanted council to understand the importance of requiring drivers to have
the right drivers license, registration and insurance within the industry.
We need a taxi bylaw thats fair to everybody,
including the KARE program, DePeuter said. We
as a town have to make sure that were not liable
for something that happens to these drivers and
the people that are in those cars.
Coun. Pat Fule asked DePeuter whether or not
he thought the new taxi bylaw is good for Strathmore residents and DePeuter responded, Yes. I
just want the non-profit (KARE) out of it.
For his part, Coun. Fule is in favour of the new
bylaw.
If were talking about whats best for Strathmore residents and the safety and health of Strathmore residents, this bylaw is important, he said.
Weve already established that KARE is not a forprofit organization and that they and groups like
the youth club do screen their drivers, do check
for all the proper records and licenses and insurance.
Jennifer Sawatzky, municipal clerk for the Town
of Strathmore also responded to DePeuters claims,
stating the KARE Volunteer Driver Program did
not constitute a for-profit service since the drivers
under that program receive fees for mileage only
and no fees for profit.
Dahrylne Knaus, Family and Community Support Services programmer, has been involved with
the KARE Volunteer Driver Program.
We are confident that the concerns brought
forward by the public and local enforcement are
legitimate and that those concerns have been addressed within this drafted bylaw, Knaus said.
We are also confident that the concerns brought

forward by the taxi industry have been investigated and addressed appropriately.
I think the key here is the definition of for
hire, Sawatzky said. The information brought
forward by the KARE program tonight indicated
examples where those people are not for hire.
The volunteers are not for hire. For hire applies
to taxi companies and limousines where it is their
business to transport people for a fee to make a
profit. The definition for hire would not apply to
the KARE program.
The new bylaw also sets forth taxi broker and
chauffeur responsibilities, and sets mechanical
and physical standards for vehicles used in taxi or
limousine businesses.
The greatest single complaint that Ive received
regarding Strathmore public conveyances is related to smoking in the vehicles, said Coun. Denise
Peterson.
Legislative services maintain that on multiple
occasions, law enforcement has expressed concern with the state of some of the vehicles being
used by taxi companies. In addition, law enforcement has expressed a concern for the lack of tools
they have available to address the state of these
vehicles.
The new proposed taxi bylaw has guidelines set
out to address these law enforcement concerns
and also to more easily allow law enforcement officials to conduct their duties.
I just think this new bylaw is going to give us
more tools that we can effectively do our jobs, for
the safety of the public and the community and
the taxis, said Teresa Fuchs, Town of Strathmore
peace officer.
This bylaw will ensure that all those who use
taxi and limousine services in Strathmore can be
confident that they are getting into a safe, clean
vehicle with a driver who is trustworthy and responsible, said Knaus.
The new bylaw also proposes the creation of a
chief license inspector position. This person will
be licensed to ensure that all brokers, chauffeurs
and vehicles operating within a taxi or limousine
business are meeting the standards set within the
bylaw.
Coun. Rocky Blokland also had concerns about
the new taxi bylaw at the meeting and was the
sole councillor who did not give consent to the
third reading.
Im not against a taxi bylaw but we have to
have the right one in place here, he said. My
concern is this bylaw is not creating a level playing field.
In response, Coun. Fule again stated the importance of this proposed new bylaw.
If were trying to look at whats best for our
Strathmore residents, this bylaw needs to happen, said Fule. It has been told to us by the people who have the most involvement in protecting
and looking after our citizens.
Fule added that the town must make decisions
based on whats for the good of the general community. Whats best for most of Strathmore.

October 16 - 22

contributions made by small and medium

Rosebud School of the Arts hosted its annual ROSAs, Recognizing Outstanding Student
Achievement, Sept. 25.
The graduation, award and scholarship event
opened with a ceremony in Rosebud Opera
House and culminated in an evening banquet in
the Haskayne-Kenney Mercantile. Six students,
who completed four years of courses and each
produced and performed a Final Project, graduated as Fellows of Rosebud School of the Arts
(FRSAs), the schools highest honour.
Geordie Cowan, whose Final Project was the
romantic play Letters in Wartime, graduated with
an FRSA in Acting. Belonging to the community
was the highlight of his time in Rosebud. There
are so many people who have helped me grow,
said Cowan in an e-mail. Teachers, roommates,
classmates, girlfriends, mentors, directors, even
fellow actors and guest actors. But a big thing
that has helped me grow is just the desire to do
so, to take my criticism when I need to and apply
it constructively.
Cowan plans to travel and explore life, while
auditioning for acting roles.
Stuart Giesbrecht, who wrote and performed
The Court of My Heart as his Final Project, graduated with an FRSA in Theatre Arts.
Rosebud made me see the mask I was wearing, made me confront and break out of the lie
of who I thought I was and grow into the man I
was meant to be, Giesbrecht e-mailed. The oneon-two acting coaching was some of the most intense and challenging work Ive ever had to do.
The teachers really push you to your limit and
beyond.
Giesbrecht wants to connect with people, sharing pain and joy.
Story, theatre and poetry are sure to be involved somehow, he said.
Caleb Gordon, whose Final Project was the oneman House, graduated with an FRSA in Acting.
I truly enjoyed getting to know Brad G. Graham (in Rosebud), and his amazingly open heart,
he said in an e-mail. Hes one of the reasons that
my Final Project, House, went so well. He knows
his craft, but hes humble about it. Its inspired me
to do the same.
Gordon is currently acting in Richard III with

Calgarys Shakespeare Company, will perform in

Miracle on 34th Street in Rosebud this Christmas,
and has several upcoming Calgary performances.
Meghan Hanet graduated with an FRSA in Acting. In her Final Project, Rilla of Ingleside, an
adaptation of a Lucy Maud Montgomery story,
Hanet played Rilla, a dream-come-true role.
My four years at Rosebud have been a time
of deep personal growth as an actor, singer and
performer, but also in who I am as a person,
Hanet wrote in an e-mail. I have made wonderful friends, grown in my faith in God through the
challenges, and got to put my love for acting into
practice.
Shes playing Sheila Birling in Rosebud Theatres An Inspector Calls.
Jocelyn Jay, who wrote and performed Girl Unspoken, Woman Unbroken for her Final Project,
graduated with an FRSA in Theatre Arts. Performing roles like Esmerelda the witch, a fairy and the
lynx spirit dancer was a highlight of her Rosebud
years, she said, but the friends she made are even
more important.
Fellow students and instructors alike have become dear to my heart, and I am thankful for their
support, she e-mailed. I have learned something
from everyone in Rosebud, either on a personal
level or in relation to theatre.
Jay is auditioning for various productions, and
taking an aerial acrobatics class.
Kaitlyn Sloboda wrote her Final Project, Take
My Hand, and graduated with an FRSA in Theatre
Arts.
I wouldnt trade them for the world, Sloboda
e-mailed about her Rosebud years. I cant imagine myself studying art, music, acting, storytelling and movement anywhere else. The instructors
who have become my dearest friends are what
made the experience. I was known to them and
they were lovingly invested in my journey as a
Christian and as a theatre artist. It was all part of
shaping me and my perspective, and how I communicate my inner thoughts and creativity.
Sloboda is actively writing plays, novels and
short stories in pursuit of her writing career.
At the ROSAs, 10 students also graduated with
a one-year Certificate in Theatre Foundations,
and six students received the two-year Diploma
in Acting or Theatre Arts. Students also received
approximately $47, 000 in scholarships and bursaries.

New treatment options for rural patients

TYLER LOWEY
Times Reporter

A change in the paramedic profession will provide greater access to health care for patients in
rural Alberta.
The paramedic profession is being transferred
from the Health Disciplines Act to the Health Professions Act, strengthening health care delivery in
Alberta.
According to a news release from the Alberta
government, the change allows paramedics to conduct a wider variety of diagnostic tests, including
portable laboratory blood testing and ultrasounds.
This information can help determine a wide variety of medical conditions, from infections to heart
attacks. The change will allow greater access to
health care in rural Alberta, and in long-term care
facilities, patients homes and other settings out-

side the hospital.

With paramedics on the frontlines of health care,
they play a critical role in responding to the needs
of patients, said provincial minister of health Sarah Hoffman. This change allows them to use their
skills more widely and treat more people, both in
emergency situations and on non-urgent calls.
This transition will also allow the Community
Paramedic Program to expand as community care
paramedics will be able to conduct more medical
tests in a patients home and provide medication
until they can access a pharmacy.
We know that the more we can do on the front
lines, the better it is for patients and the broader
healthcare system, said Darren Sandbeck, who is
the chief paramedic with Alberta Health Services.
Using our community paramedic program as an
example, by providing more care in the community, we are reducing pressure on emergency de-

partments.
The change brings flexibility for the Alberta College of
Paramedics to experience medical conditions in the environment, according to Alberta College of Paramedics president
Ian McEwan.
This long awaited proclamation has propelled the profession of paramedicine to modern practice, he noted.
Another new change is having paramedics work directly
with nurse practitioners, providing more integrated health
care delivery.
This is really all about improving patient care. EMS is the
first point of care for more than 320,000 Albertans every year,
said Deb Gordon, vice president and chief health operations
officer of Alberta Health Services.

Western Feedlots closure should

be the last straw for NDP
DEREK FILDEBRANDT
MLA Strathmore-Brooks

On Sept. 21, Strathmore, High River and Mossleigh received news that Western Feedlots would
be closing its Alberta operations. There is no way
to sugar coat it; this is bad news.
My deepest sympathies are with the families who
now face unemployment. If my office can assist
anyone impacted with the transition such as accessing Employment Insurance claims please do
not hesitate to contact us.
The closure of Western Feedlots will not only
impact people directly employed there, but ranchers who do businesses there and hundreds of businesses indirectly supported by the economic activity that it generates.
Western Feedlots President and CEO Dave Plett
said that while the cattle industry faces challenging
market conditions, NDP policy decisions like Bill
6 and the carbon tax are making the business unprofitable, calling it a poor political and economic
environment.
In response to reporters questions, Plett said
that Alberta used to have the Alberta advantage
of late, a number of moves have made it much
more difficult to do business in Alberta as opposed
to other jurisdictions.
There it is, in black and white for the politicians
to see. Our actions as politicians have the very real
ability to hurt businesses; and hurting businesses
will hurt everyday workers as their employers become less profitable.
This reality should not take a masters degree in
economics to understand, yet it is seemingly lost
upon the NDP government in its policy making
process.
Wildrose has worked hard to explain this to the
NDP government and to help them understand this
reality; but they just dont get it.
Unquestioning adherence to their ideology has
blinded the NDP government to the fact that government has a great capacity to harm the economy.
This is as true in the agriculture industry as it is in
oil and gas.
The instability created by the threat that new
taxes, royalties and regulations can be imposed at

any time does real harm to investment. Businesses need to be able to plan for the long term, and
governments impervious to even basic economics
make that very difficult.
Surely, we can agree that the NDP have good
intentions in what they are doing, but the road to
economic ruin is paved with good intentions. Rhetoric about sticking it to business to help workers
may make for good campaign commercials, but it
will only hurt the workers we are trying to help.
Businesses must be profitable, and if they are
not, they will either adjust their behavior to become so or cease operations. In short, unprofitability rolls downhill.
Again, these are basic economic realities that
most people understand, but our government
seemingly fails or refuses to. If they dont get it
now, I fear that they never will. This should be the
last straw.
Through all of this, there was one bright spot in
the statement of Western Feedlots:
Should circumstances change going forward,
there may be opportunities to do something to
activate it [again] but thats not the case at this
time.
Western Feedlots is not permanently closing its
operations and selling off its assets. It is mothballing its operations during a poor political and
economic environment.
This means that there is some hope yet that Western Feedlots could reopen if we can make Alberta
open for business once again. I suspect that they
would not be the only ones.
Albertans have been through poor political and
economic environments before, but seldom this
poor.
Our strength as families, neighbours and communities is needed to carry those who lose their
jobs through this. Our government needs to listen
to reason and evidence in its decision making. The
Wildrose Official Opposition will do our best to
see that they do.

and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.

Chamber of Commerce
events update
MELISSA STRLE
Times Reporter

Steve Bennis, with the Business Development Bank of
Canada and treasurer of the Strathmore & District Chamber
of Commerce, delivered a Chamber of Commerce update
for the town of Strathmore at the town council meeting on
Sept. 21.
BUSINESS AFTER FIVE
Bennis said the Chamber had its first Business After Five
event in August with Heather Rodgers and her team from
Action Insurance.
She liked the event. She thought it was really successful
and now she wants to host a Lunch and Learn to talk about
her expertise in the insurance side of her business, he said.
At the end of the month, the chamber will host another
Business After Five event with Hobs Hobbies.
LUNCH AND LEARN
Bennis said in October the Chamber will support another Lunch and Learn with the Royal Fi-nancial Group. The
topic discussed will cover being an entrepreneur in todays
economy.
NEW CENTRE
The Chamber of Commerce now has a new permanent
office in the business centre located at 129 Second Avenue.
Shelley Toderian, Chamber executive director, will be at
the new office Tuesdays and Wednes-days from 10 a.m. to 2
p.m. These will be considered regular business hours.
Its been over a year since the Chamber had a permanent
home, so were pretty excited about our new location and
being in the downtown core so were accessible to the general public, said Bennis.
The Chamber will be hosting a grand opening on Thurs.,
Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and this will coincide to help
celebrate small business week as well.
CANADA 150
Bennis said the Chamber is engaged with the Canada 150
project. Shelley Toderian is working with Kendra Armstrong
and Tracy Simpson from the town as well as other volunteers to help prepare the application form.
We submitted a letter of support for the proposed project and were hoping for approval for funding for Canadas
Heritage Canada 150 fund once they review the application, said Bennis.
FUN CASINO NIGHT
Fun Casino Night will be held on Oct. 1 and will be hosted at the Royal Canadian Legion.
This year marks the Legions 90th anniversary, and the
Fun Casino will be held partly to support the Legion and to
help celebrate the milestone with the Legion and its members. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the Fun Casino starts
at 8 p.m.
The Chamber of Commerce is selling tickets now to Legion and Chamber members for $25 each and to non-members for $35 each. Those interested can purchase tickets on
the Chamber of Commerce website or at the Legion, the
ATB or Rockys Bakery.
Throughout the course of the evening, there will also be
a 50-50 draw and silent auction to sup-port the evening and
the Legion.
Wed like to invite everybody to bring your friends and
family. Its going to be a great time, said Bennis.
Professional dealers Aces are Wild will be hosting the casino event and will also provide les-sons for those who are
unsure how to play. Participants will receive $50,000 in fun
money, and winners will have prizes to bid on at the end
of the night.

Council approves five-year

curling rink lease
MELISSA STRLE
Times Reporter

At the Sept. 21 Strathmore Town council meeting, Tracy Simpson, recreation coordinator for
the Town of Strathmore, spoke on behalf of the
Strathmore Curling Club (SCC) in requesting a
new five-year lease agreement which would start
Jan. 1, 2017.
Simpson also requested that the Strathmore curling rinks electrical costs be split 50-50 between
the SCC and the Town of Strathmore.
SCC financial manager Stu Shaw said the club
originally requested a 10-year lease agreement
in 2016, which was consistent with the previous lease. However, he noted that the situation
changed, necessitating the need for a shorter
agreement.
There was some discussion around uncertainty
around growth with Civic Centre requirements
and what they might want to do with the curling
club, so that is one reason why we took a shorter
view of five years, he said.
Over the past five years, the average electrical
cost at the curling rink was $24,000 per year. With
50-50 cost sharing, the town and the SCC would
each pay about $12,000 each per year in utility
costs.
Approximately $400,000 in capital costs are
scheduled over the next five years at the curling
rink. These capital costs include replacement of
the HVAC unit, makeup air unit, furnaces and the
ice plant.
Approximately half of that is to start rebuilding the ice plant itself and the other half is for
building infrastructure, including the HVAC, the
furnaces and the makeup air unit, said Simpson.
Currently, both the SCC and the Town of Strathmore manage and operate the curling rink. However, the SCC absorbs roughly double the amount
of operating expenses compared to the Town.
In 2015, the curling clubs operating expenses
for the rink were approximately $130,000, while
the Town of Strathmores operating expenses for
the rink equated to approximately $65,000. These
amounts are expected to increase.
Town councillors commended the SCC on a job
well done in raising needed funds.
They are trying to get more aggressive in rent-

ing the lounge area for things like weddings [and]

birthday parties, said Coun. Pat Fule.
Historically, casino funds have been used to financially support the curling rink. However, casino funding has been dropping since the rural
Calgary casino schedule now only occurs every 36
months. This has placed pressure on the SCC to
raise needed funds in other ways including sponsorship, advertising, lounge sales and membership dues.
Mayor Michael Ell said he has seen an indication that the SCC is struggling, adding that theyve
done a great job in raising needed funds.
Theyve been working diligently with new ice
makers and volunteers to increase their sponsorship and advertising revenues, he said. Theyve
almost doubled the amount that comes into the
club in just two years.
At the council meeting, SCC president Craig
Koch said current membership at the SCC is approximately 250 members. He noted the junior
program is maxed out at 64 juniors in two age
groups, and 20 seniors play three times a week.
There are five bonspiels throughout the year including mens, ladies, mixed and two juniors. In
addition, the senior mens district playdowns will
occur in December and, over the next three years,
three provincial events will be held at the rink.
Coun. Steve Grajczyk noted, all of those bonspiels bring a lot of commerce to the community.
Council motioned to draft a lease agreement to
include a five-year term starting Jan. 1, 2017 with
an option for an additional five-year term with either partner being able to propose a term extension. There was also a motion to share the electrical charges 50-50.

Mosaic of History to celebrate

Canadas 150th

The Strathmore Canada 150 Planning Committee

met on Aug. 25 and Sept. 6 to brainstorm ideas to
celebrate Canadas 150th anniversary. Some ideas discussed included fundraisers, community celebrations
and legacy projects.
After brainstorming, the committee decided to create a Mosaic of History as a community arts and
culture legacy project. The committee will be placing
this project forth when it applies for a grant for funding from the federal Canada 150 Fund.
Canadian Heritage stipulated that project ideas and
applications had a deadline of Sept. 30 in order to be
considered for possible grant monies for Canada 150
celebrations in Strathmore.
Tracy Simpson, Town of Strathmore recreation coordinator, is heading up the Canada 150 committee
and said the committee will be able to apply for various funding opportunities, but was recently focused
on coming up with a project to meet the application
deadline for the Canada 150 Fund.
Because of the short time line for this specific fund,
our focus did go directly to this one application, she
said. We havent even looked at other funding options because of the needed timeline around this one.
The proposed project consists of a mosaic design of
the Canadian flag to be installed in a local park. The
committee identified Kinsmen Park as an option.
However, at the Town council meeting on Sept. 21,
it was determined the town will provide a place to
install the project, but this may not necessarily be at
Kinsmen Park.
A timeline of historical Canadian and Strathmore
events will be listed by number on the mosaic, with
corresponding numbers on smaller plaques placed
along a pathway, including detailed information and
pictures for each historical event. Historical events
will be placed directly at the site where the event took
place within Strathmore.

The project is designed to be inclusive to everyone

and to allow Canadians to come together in one place
through a self-guided walking tour providing insight
into the past and present. The project also allows the
community to add to these historical events in future
years.
At the Sept. 21 council meeting, Coun. Denise Peterson said she is in favour of a legacy project, and also
introduced the idea of QR codes to possibly accompany the physical mosaic landmarks.
In terms of the mosaic of history, users could install
an app on their phones and then scan a QR code
that would show pictures and tell a story of a certain
event in history. These QR codes could even be placed
where the actual historical event occurred.
Its a simplistic but highly visual, captivating way to
demonstrate history, said Peterson.
Simpson said the committee will consider the use
of QR codes along with physical historic landmarks.
I think we are leaning toward a hybrid of a fixed
structure as well as QR codes to be more encompassing and inclusive of everybody, she said. We want
to make sure that people who dont have cell phones
or smart phones or know how to use them can also
enjoy the project.
Other Canada 150 funding opportunities will be
available through Canadian Badlands and Alberta Culture, but these opportunities have yet to be explored
by the Canada 150 committee.
The committee is looking for active participation
in this project from all members of the community
and invites community members, schools, indigenous
groups and organizations to research and develop
pieces of the project and to assist in other ways.
The Canada 150 committee held another meeting
on Sept. 28 to discuss celebration ideas for Canadas
150th anniversary in Strathmore.
For all inquiries and for those interested in volunteering with Canadas 150th anniversary planning,
contact Tracy Simpson at the Town of Strathmore office.

The Western District Historical Society has been working on the 2015 winning project and was going to present
the project this year.
Armstrong is unsure how this part of
last years winning project will be presented.
At this point we still have to figure
out what were doing with that, said
Armstrong. Well have to have something come forward with that, but its
unclear at this time.

The Town of Strathmore has cancelled the Lets Make a Pitch Event due
to a low number of applications.
According to Kendra Armstrong, community events assistant with the Town
of Strathmore, the joint decision to cancel was made on Sept. 20.
We waited until noon and then the
decision was made along with the mayor and the CAO of the town and Tracy Simpson, she said. We had a low
amount of applications come through
and just didnt see that it was worth going forward with it this year.
Armstrong said the town intends to
bring the event back in 2017 and then
perhaps hold it bi-yearly or every other
year thereafter. But ultimately, the decision will be based on funding.
Armstrong said she thought sponsorship might have been down this year
due to the economy, and letters had

already come out stating that different

organizations and businesses would not
able to assist this year. However, this
was not the reason that the event was
cancelled.
In the meantime, the town hopes to
get out in the community and find out
whats missing, and what it can do to
help increase participation and set the
stage for a more successful event next
year.
Armstrong said they gave town residents a lot of notice and the event was
advertised well in advance, starting with
newspaper advertising in early spring.
This would have been the third year
of the Lets Make a Pitch event in Strathmore.
Hope Bridges won the first event in
2014 and was awarded $10,000. Then
in 2015, the Western District Historical
Society competed with five groups and
was awarded $5,000.
Yearly variances in prizes were due
to funding.

Warriors flat

TYLER LOWEY
Times Reporter
The Wheatland Warriors opened their
2016-17 season on the wrong note when
they dropped a pair of games over the
weekend.
The local double-A bantam team fell
4-0 to the Okotoks Oilers on Sept. 23 at
Murray Arena, and were snubbed 4-1 by
the West Central Tigers on Sept. 25 at
the Strathmore Family Centre.
Well, there is definitely a lot of work
to be done, said Warriors head coach
Cody Brown. I think a lot of this weekend had to do with guys having the
jitters and nerves. Some of these guys
have never played at this level before so
it was a new experience.
Goaltender Logan Grant is one of two
players returning from last years championship squad and started the first
game in net. Corey Ross got the call between the pipes against the Tigers but
didnt fare much better.
Adam Kirkpatrick netted the first goal
of the campaign from Mitch Tessemaker
and Keith Yellowfly.
Its still pretty early for us, said
Brown. Even though we had a training
camp and played in exhibition games,
we still have a lot of rust to knock off.
We will skate this week and put in some
light system work and get ready for our
next games.
The Warriors opened the season without captains. Brown and his coaching
staff will spend the next week mulling
over their options.
The Warriors travel to the Taber Community Centre to battle with the Taber
Golden Suns (2-0) Friday, Sept. 30 and
host Red Deer Ramada (0-2) Saturday,
Oct. 1 (6 p.m.) at the Strathmore Family
Centre.
CHIEFS GO 1 AND 1 IN EXHIBITION
PLAY
The Wheatland Chiefs wrapped up
their exhibition season with a tournament in Taber.
The local double-A midget team
dropped the opener 7-3 to the Medicine
Hat Hounds, but rebounded nicely to
topple the Taber Golden Suns 6-3 and
the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-0.
Following Tuesdays final practice, the
Chiefs made their final cuts.
Our guys played great in Taber. It
was a good last opportunity for us to
see them in game form and it went
well, said Chiefs assistant coach Matt
Gass. Im very excited to have this

group. Im probably more excited about

this group than I was about the past
two seasons, and that includes a championship team.
Chemistry shouldnt be a hurdle for
the Chiefs as they are running it back
with a familiar unit. Six forwards and
four defencemen have returned from
last years roster.
The Chiefs host the Olds Grizzlys Friday, Sept. 30 (7:30 p.m.) at the Strathmore Family Centre in their season
opener. The Chiefs head to Cranbrook
the next night for a tilt with the Cranbrook Dynamiters at Cranbrook Memorial Arena.
BRAVES FALL SHORT
The Wheatland Braves turned in a
blue-collar weekend, but didnt leave
with the desired result.
We performed the way I expected
us to perform this weekend. We have a
good group of kids that work hard, we
just need a more consistent effort, said
head coach Keith Klemmensen.
The local double-A peewee team was
stuffed 6-1 by the Olds Grizzlys on Sept.
24 at the Strathmore Family Centre and
slighted 4-2 by the West Central Tigers
the following day at the NexSource Centre in Sylvan Lake.
The Braves played the Grizzlys tightly,
trailing 3-1 until the eight-minute mark
in the third period.
We only generated 13 shots offensively, said Klemmensen. We have a
couple guys here that are a little tentative when it comes to shooting the puck
and thats not a big deal. We get kids
from different organizations that were
taught a different style than us.
Joshua Alberda netted the lone goal
Friday night and added another marker
Saturday. Garrin Gosling was the other
goal scorer against the Tigers, while assists on the weekend came from Philip
Raycroft (2), Adam Moore and Tyler
Fairbairn.
We just need to adjust to the higher
skill level of hockey and play the full 60
minutes of hockey, said Klemmensen.
The Braves will prepare for another
weekend slate of games by concentrating on defensemens footwork and
passing on the fly.
The Braves will hit the road with a
pair of road games Saturday, Oct. 1,
starting in Okotoks at Murray Arena
when they face the Okotoks Oilers
Green (1-0). Sunday, the Braves tango
with the Bow Valley Timberwolves (2-0)
at Cochrane Arena.

of 170 back on July 28, in North Battleford, Sask. He has competed in 19 events
this year, placing in the top-five three
times, with four other top-10 finishes.
Schiffner has seen it all during his remarkable career: former Calgary Stampede champion, PBR Canadian Finals
champion, Canadian Cowboy of the Year,
and he even taught Prince William and
Kate Middleton a lesson in bull riding.
After all that, his goals entering each
season remain the same.
For me, its all about qualifying for the
CFR. Thats why we ride bulls and that is
always my goal, said Schiffner.
In a year where he has been dealing
with sore ribs from getting stomped on

by a bull, Schiffer is off to his 16th CFR

and will also be headed to his 11th PBR
finals.
Ive been struggling with some injuries this year, said Schiffner. My right
hand was worn out and I couldnt compete at a higher level, but thats all part
of the game.
Like an aging point guard in the NBA,
Schiffner was a little more selective this
year when choosing rodeos to compete
in in order to preserve his body.
Im not young like some of these
21-year-olds now, and I got a family and
a ranch that need my attention, too,
said Schiffner.
While on tour, one of the young riders
Schiffner likes to watch is Maple Creek
native Jared Parsonage. He thinks Parsonage has a lot of potential and is impressed by his mental toughness for a
21-year-old.
Parsonage put up 83 points on Indian
Turtle (Vold Rodeo) but was bucked off
Buck Wild (Bailey Pro Rodeo) in the finals in Calgary.
Up next for Schiffner is Cinch Pro Rodeo Canada Series Final Friday, Sept. 30
and Oct. 1 back at the Agrium Western
Events Centre as he prepares for the
CFR and PBR finals.
The CFR finals are set for Oct. 14-15 in
Saskatoon and the PBR finals run Nov.
9-13 in Edmonton.
But until then, Schiffner is busy chasing bulls and his young daughters at
his ranch just northeast of Strathmore
where he and his wife run a cow-calf
ranch.

It was a clean sweep for the Strathmore Community Football Association Badgers Sept. 24, as each team
won including a pair of shutouts.
The senior Badgers smacked the
Didsbury Dragons 38-8 in Mountain
View Football Conference play Sept.
24 at Crowther Memorial Junior
High School (CMJHS) field.
We got the W which is the important part, but there were a lot of
mental mistakes and things we need
to tighten up, said Badgers coach
Sean Seafoot.
Scoreless into the second quarter,
Badgers quarterback Reid Jensen
followed up his comeback the week
before with three rushing touchdowns, including a 67-yard scamper.
He also connected with Caleb Stone,
Zach Hiscock and Austin Drummond for passing touchdowns.
The Badgers (3-0-1) now have
a bye week before hosting the
Carstairs Tigers Oct. 8 at CMJHS.
The bye week can be a good
thing or sometimes it can be a
curse. We got a couple bodies that
need to get healthy, but there is also
the opportunity to lose focus and
not come out as sharp for the next
game, said Seafoot. We will add in
some new formations, tweak some
basic stuff and get new guys playing
new positions to provide depth on
our bench.
BANTAMS EVEN THEIR RECORD
The bantam Badgers bounced
back with a 36-0 blank job of the
Springbank Phoenix Sept. 24, evening their record at 1-1.
It was a pretty good game.
Springbank had a lot of large bodies, but we went in with a game
plan and our players executed it
perfectly, said Badgers coach Brad
Middlemiss.
After surrendering 52 points to
the Rocky Mountain House Rebels
the week before in Central Football
League play, Middlemiss and his
crew switched up their coverage
on defence from a 4-4 to a 5-4 with

hopes of stopping the run game.

We were betting on them not
being a good passing team and it
paid off. Everyone did their job out
there, said Middlemiss.
Defensive linemen Riley Southern, Luke Henry, Max Sims and Mats
Gerla plugged the gaps and wreaked
havoc in the Phoenix backfield.
Middlemiss is really impressed
with how his team is playing right
now and isnt planning many changes during practice this week.
Last week, John Gibbons broke
his collarbone in a collision and
Dominic Atkinson injured his knee:
both players were seen on the sideline cheering on their team.
The game was called at the 5:13
mark in the fourth quarter when
one of the Phoenix players shattered his ankle.
The Badgers will host the Olds
Rotary Bulldogs Oct. 1, at CMJHS
field.
PEEWEES SHUTOUT
OPPONENTS
It was more of the same for the
peewee Badgers as they iced the
Rocky Mountain House Junior Rebels 33-0 in Central Peewee Football League play Sept. 24 in Rocky
Mountain House.
It was a really outstanding game
the whole way. I am very proud of
my guys, said Badgers coach Doug
Theissen. That was the best game
we played all year.
The Badgers (3-0) kept crossing
up the Rebels defence with a series
of reverse handoffs, something that
wasnt clicking during practice.
We kept running these plays in
practice and we kept fumbling the
handoff. All the plays we executed
today werent being run well in
practice, said Theissen. Everything
went off without a hitch.
Touchdowns came from Dawson
Jensen, Ty Stone, Sean Grill, Noah
Agboro and Bret Wright. One-point
converts came from Brady Johansen
(2) and Jack Warrack.
The Badgers hit the road to take
on the Lacombe Express Oct. 1 in
Lacombe.

Kings showing signs of resiliency

TYLER LOWEY
Times Reporter

The Strathmore Wheatland Kings
combined to go 0-12 last season
against their three 2016-17 opponents
and have walked away with a 2-1 record to open the season.
The Kings split their weekend bill
with a 6-3 loss to the Cochrane Generals Sept. 24 at the Strathmore Family Centre, and picked up the 7-3 victory over the Banff Academy Bears
the following day at the Banff Recreation Centre in Heritage Junior Hockey
League action.
The Kings were involved in a backand-forth affair with the Generals and
cut the lead to 4-3, but the Generals
added a pair of empty-net goals to polish off the Kings (2-1).
The Generals (4-0) have not been
kind to the Kings recently. The Generals swept the Kings in the quarterfinals
during last years playoffs, outscoring
them 25-8. The Generals also swept
the season series 4-0, and bounced the
Kings twice in preseason 7-1 and 6-1.
If we keep playing as a team, we
will beat them this year, said Kings
forward Bradley Tingey.
Well consider how we played them
in exhibition even when we had a
few veterans sitting out I thought it
ended up being a decent game, said
Kings assistant coach Braden Desmet.
The Generals opened the scoring at
15:10 into the first period, kicking off
a night of flip-flopping.
Every time the Generals scored, the
Kings would answer minutes later.
Kings scoring came from Joby Raine,
Brenden Moore and Matt Thompson
with a goal and an assist each, while
Kody Hammond and Keenan Ogle
added one assist each.
Thats been the Kings so far this
year: resilient and constantly working.

We have guys buying into systems

more this year than we did last year,
said Ogle, who is entering his third
season with the club. We are supporting each other in the offensive and defensive zone. It feels like everything is
going a lot better when you have five
guys pulling on the same rope.
Kings goaltender Brady Hoover
stood tall in their season opener and
was called upon again to hold the fort
while the Kings tried to mount another
comeback. Hoover recorded 40 saves
in the loss.
Hes been unbelievable for us already and if he keeps turning in these
performances, we will be alright in the
end, said Kings head coach Shadoe
Stoodley.
It is becoming a trend for Hoover
to face a barrage each game. He has
faced over 40 shots in all three tilts and
carries a .902 save percentage.
Our D-zone coverage needs work,
but its still early and we are still going
over our systems, said Stoodely.
Hes been incredible for the amount
of shots hes had to face, added Tingey. We hang him out to dry a lot by
not covering the guy in front of the
net, but its something we work on every day.
There was no miraculous comeback
needed Sunday in Banff as the Kings
led 4-3 after the second frame and
scored three goals in the third.
While the Bears owned the regular
season matchups 4-0 against the Kings
last season, the Kings ousted the Bears
in the opening round of the playoffs,
sweeping the best-of-three series 2-0.
The Kings powerplay units are humming along at a 45.5 per cent (5-for-11)
success rate so far after converting one
goal in three chances against Banff (03-1).
Tingey supplied a goal and an assist, while Zachary Meadows chipped

The Emergency Services Charity Golf Tournament was a Huge

in a goal and two assists and Hayden

Vanderploeg contributed two assists.
Other Kings scoring came from Ryan
Grasdahl, Kristian Ayoungman, Cole
Busslinger, Jaks Faris and Kody Hammond who each buried one goal, and
Laval Jerry, Brooker Pretty Youngman
and Thompson tallied one assist each.
Tingey is tied for the team lead with
four points and credits his success to
feeling comfortable on the ice.
Right now I have been rotating
with a lot of centres, but I really liked
playing with Zach (Meadows) and
Matt (Thompson), said the 5-foot-10,
170-pound Hussar product. We have

been getting the puck deep, grinding

in the corners and getting the puck out
front.
The Kings travel to Stettler Friday,
Sept. 30, to take on the Lightning (11) at the Stettler Recreation Centre.
The Kings return home Saturday, Oct.
1, when the Mountainview Colts (2-1)
come to the Strathmore Family Centre
for the Kings first games against the
North Division. Puck drop is set for
8:15 p.m.
The Kings went 2-0 against the Lightning matchup last winter. The Kings
split the season series with the Colts
1-1 last season.

Bisons announce roster

TYLER LOWEY
Times Reporter

That gusty breeze you felt Saturday
night was actually CFR Chemical Bisons coaching staff sighing as they
finished their preseason schedule and
final round of cuts.
We are ready to go now. That was
mentally tiring and not fun for us. Its
tough disappointing over 130 kids as
we tried to make this team, said head
coach Sandy Henry. We are ready to
get this thing going now.
The Bisons landed on their final
roster following a pair of exhibition
games.
The Bisons brushed back the Calgary Flames 4-1 on Sept. 22 at the
Father David Bauer Arena, but were
blanked 3-0 by the Red Deer Optimist
Chiefs on Sept. 24 at Red Deer Arena.
16-year-old Hunter Young was between the pipes for the Flames game
as the Bisons began to develop as a
unit on both ends of the ice.
We came out of the gate a little bit
slower than I was hoping for, but we
installed a few new offensive plays and
trusted our guys to go out and perform, said Henry. There were signs
that we were getting closer to figuring
things out, but we still need to work
on our coverage in our defensive zone.
Hunter played well though. He

tracked the puck really well and he

was able to recover well on poor rebound control. He is a quick goalie on
the ice and he is able to see the puck
and move around greatly back there.
Following the Flames game, the
coaching staff made their final three
releases. Unfortunately, the grind of
camp appeared to be too much for the
final exhibition game in Red Deer.
We didnt look as hungry as we did
at the start of camp. It was a long, hard
mental process on these kids and they
looked like they sagged a little. Red
Deer came at us hard on the forecheck
and we couldnt keep up, said Henry.
We had some bite missing from our
game.
The good news for the 20 skaters
who made the cut is that its all over
and now the fun begins.
The kids are excited to get on with
it, meet their billets, move in and go
to school, he said. Hopefully now we
can get into a routine and things will
start to feel normal again.
Henry stated the coaching staff
hasnt made any decisions on captains
yet, but have had their eyes on a few
players during camp. He also added
there will be a captain for the Oct. 1
home opener, but it might take a little
longer to nail down the assistant captains.
Of the 20 Bisons, there are only five

returnees from last years team that got

swept in the Alberta Midget Hockey
League finals to the Lloydminster Bandit Pipeline Bobcats 3-0.
Cole Clayton, Brett Trentham, Tyson
Scott, Kaden Hanas and Tyler Petrie
are back for red and black. Clayton recorded six goals and 15 points, Trentham tallied seven goals and 14 points,
Scott sniped eight goals and 19 points,
Hanas was second on the team with
43 penalty minutes while contributing
five goals and eight points, and Petrie
plugged in five goals and 11 assists.
One of the new faces is 15-yearold Peyton Krebs. He is one of two
15-year-olds on the roster and the
Kootenay Ice selected Krebs as the
No. 1 overall pick at the 2016 WHL
Bantam Draft.
The Okotoks product lit up the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League
(AMBHL) in 2015-16, tallying 46 goals

and 102 points in only 27 games as a

member of the Rocky Mountain Raiders.
We really like our team. We think
we got the right parts. The question
now is can we create chemistry in
our locker room to have these guys
wanting to go through walls for each
other? Itll take time, but the potential
is there, said Henry. This is as skilled
of a team that weve put on the ice
since Ive been here.
The Bisons will christen the new
season with a pair of home games.
First, the Lethbridge Hurricanes roll
into town Oct. 1. Puck drop is slated
for 5:15 p.m. at the Strathmore Family Centre. Next, the Bisons host the
South East Athletic Club Tigers at 2
p.m. on Oct. 2.
The Bisons went 2-0 against the Tigers last season and 1-0-1 with the
Hurricanes.

Simwamu secures
win with pair of TDs
TYLER LOWEY
Times Reporter

A hip injury forced Strathmore High
School Spartans head coach Travis
Gorski to lean on one of his seniors to
play a new position, and it sparked a
towering comeback.
The Spartans trailed by 14 underneath the lights in the third quarter
and came back to clip the Brooks Buffalos 30-27 in Rangeland Football Conference action Sept. 23, at Brooks Composite High School field.
Maverick Ridley typically returns
kickoffs and punts for the Spartans,
but he sustained a hip injury while getting tackled and was removed from the
game.
In steps Isaiah Simwamu, a Grade 12
student, who has never fielded a punt
in a game before.
Ive practiced catching punts before
when Isaac (Wegner) and I would kick
balls back and forth to each other, but
thats about it, said Simwamu.
Punts arent the easiest things to
catch. The football spins oddly, knuckles back to earth and can shift direction last second in the wind.
The Spartans (2-1) werent getting
anything done and were trailing 20-6
midway through the third quarter. Gorski inserted Simwamu and he ignited
the Spartans.
Simwamu bobbled the first punt,
but recovered in time to side-step one
tackle and sprinted all the way to the
house.
I saw them over-pursue the right
side of the field, so I went left and
had a clear lane all the way to the end

zone, said Simwamu.

Normally a wide receiver, Simwamu
had trouble getting overtop the Buffalos cover-3 defence. His biggest play as
a receiver was a 25-yard catch and run.
Simwamu returned his second kick
with just over five minutes remaining
in the fourth quarter, giving the Spartans a 30-27 lead.
The bench was pretty fired up. We
worked hard that game; it was another
tough game but our guys just put our
head down and went to work, said
Simwamu, who cheers for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football
League.
We just came off a tough loss to
one of the top teams in the province
and now we were losing to this team.
They were good, but we thought that
we shouldnt have been in that position. My touchdowns helped, but then
our defence was able to take over the
game.
Following Simwamus second score,
Gorskis defence forced a two-and-out.
The Spartans received the ball back
with three minutes remaining and was
able to run out the clock with a couple
key first downs.
They were a very physical team,
said Gorski. They came into this game
ranked eighth in the province and
were taking it to us at the start. They
are a very well respected program but
we just refused to be beat.
The Spartans battled the Chestermere Cowboys in a junior varsity exhibition game Sept. 27, and will host
the W.H. Croxford Cavaliers of Airdrie Sept. 30 at 4:30 p.m. at Strathmore
High School Field.

Hawks thumped
by J.C. Charyk Hawks
TYLER LOWEY
Times Reporter

Playing in their first road game in
school history, the Holy Cross Collegiate Hawks were stunned by the J.C.
Charyk Hawks 77-13 in Alberta 6 Man
Football League action last Friday (Sept.
23) in Hanna, Alta.
J.C. has a strong program with large
number, big players and a lot of experience. They showed us what a top program is like, said Hawks head coach
Michael Annicchiarico.
Hawks running back Jayden Hendricks registered both touchdowns in
the second half and Zach Cull hauled in
the 1-point conversion reception.
The Hawks have plenty of time to hit

the practice field and put that loss behind them. With a bye this week, Annicchiarico and his staff are going back to
the basics of tackling and blocking at
practice.
Exiting the bye week, the Hawks fly to
Central High Sedgewick Public School
to take on the Rams Friday, Oct. 7.
The HCC Hawks next home game is
slated for Friday, Oct. 21, against the
Our Lady of Mount Pleasant Royals of
Camrose.
(Ed. Note: The game score reads
43-13 on the Alberta 6 Man Football
League website, site1946.goalline.ca.
The league stops counting the winning
sides points once a team has a 30 point
lead to prevent teams running up the
score.)
