Pothana a common surname in Andhra and Mauritius as well, was the name of a
telugu poet (15th century) who translated many works, who was known for his
simple farmer's life and his devotion to Shiva and Sri Rama.
Legend goes that when Pothana was stuck on a verse while translating Srimad
Bhagavatam, Sri Rama himself came without his knowledge and wrote the verse
and left. The famous verse is here:
PalikeDidhi Bhagavatamata
Palikinchedivadu Ramabhadrundata Ne
Palikina Bhavaharamagunata

Translated it means : "That which is spoken is the Bhagavatam and the one who
made me speak/chant this is Lord Rama. The result of chanting this
(Bhagavatamata) is ultimate freedom, the Liberation of soul. So, let me sing it,
since there is no other story better than this (Bhagavatam)."
Sri Maha Vishnu himself once appeared in one of the greatest Telugu Kings Sri Krishna
Devaraya's dream and ordered him to write AmuktaMalyada, a great epic work of Telugu
literature. Sri Krishna originally intended to write it in Sanskrit(God's language) when the
Lord himself told him to write it in Telugu as Telugu was dear to Sri MahaVishnu.
